Amazing food. Oddly surreal location. The owners husband was napping on the floor by the second table during my entire meal and woke up as I was finishing my chai. They charged me for the dish... and the rice cost extra? When I asked for an iced chai and a lot of water she cooked my meal first and served it (did I mention that the restaurant is basically two 4 person tables in a small commercial kitchen? And then she asked "room temperature water or cold" I said. "Iced please" as her husband snored a bit louder for a moment. She went to the Fridge and grabbed a cold water bottle and handed it to me. I drank it quickly (100 degree day) and she made my chai. A few moments later she returned with my steaming hot chai and a plastic dish with sugar and a medicine dose cup. At this point the whole experience was so surreal I just went with it. The food was incredible. Lamb masala spiced the way I asked. Delicious. Got another water bottle when I asked. Sugared my chai. Finished up as another couple came in and offered my card to pay. "No.... Cash only." I laughed... Of course. And pulled money. My total was 18 for my 10 dish... plus rice... plus Waters... plus hot chai. Paid, asked for the ticket to be my reciept (business travel) and it was written in a beautiful script of a language I can only guess, but the numbers were there... As I left I found myself questioning if Id just had the most authentic Indian restaurant experience of my life...

I will start by saying this. I have had bad Indian food and this place is near the best that i have tasted anywhere. I moved back to Oakland from Fremont ( which has excellent Indian cuisine) and to my surprise when I moved to the hills above the Flats. and my initial thought was i will have to dive downtown, or Berkeley if i really want great Indian food. Best case scenario to Hayward. Nope not necessary quick hop over to 73rd down to E 14th (it will never be international blvd to me) and low and behold excellence in food form. When i walked in because I was asked to choose the level of spicy that i desired i was offered a taste of my food to ensure quality. ( it owner is an old TECH head from Sun Micro Systems their loss my gain) oh any and all fears of bad food, or the neighborhood ( for those of you who are looking at the map thinking hells naw!) belted away like the butter chicken did in my mouth. i couldnt wait to get it home to finish it. Please head down and get you some of this delicious food and order when you get there so you can stop and have a conversation with these people. Great food, great story, great experience. (in the flats I know!) so with the trip i have found my Indian food staple in "Masala Cuisine" Nuff said!

Its cool that this is a mom and pop place and everything. Like literally mom and pop are the only people that work there. But there is no real dining room. Its just a bunch of kitchen equipment and then two folding tables. I was interested in the quaintness of a restaurant in which you dine in the kitchen literally and the chef turns around and puts the bowl on your table. But after the chef removed a tupperware of rice from the fridge and plunged his bare hands into the rice to scoop out my dinner the charm was kind of gone. There are only plastic forks and spoons. The food was on the lower lower end of quality as far as Indian Cuisine goes. Because of how small it is I want more than anything to like this place but honestly it is one of the worst restaurants if not absolutely the worst restaurant I have ever been to. At least the neighborhood is charming and safe and clean.

This place is great! Affordable, authentic indian food that is really made with care. Went to pick up a phoned in order and they sit you down and have you taste each item you ordered to make sure the spiciness is just how you like it! I had the Chicken Tikka Masala (Great!), Saag Paneer (Tasty!), Mixed Vegetable Pakora (Good!), and Plain Paratha bread (Yum!). I will definitely be going here again, Cant believe this little gem is hidden away in this otherwise crap part of town. Worth a visit!

Hands down the best Indian food Ive had in the Bay Area. When we come here, we make sure to order 5 or 6 dishes so we can take a bunch of leftovers home and eat it the rest of the week. Yep, its that good. Leave yourself plenty of time - they begin cooking your dishes as soon as you order, so it takes about 45 minutes for your food to come out. BUT its totally worth the wait. Cant rave enough about this place.

A fabulous little shop run by a wonderful couple. the food is made individually to order. Samples of the food are being out for you to taste and ask for it to be more or less spicy, then its finished to your liking. There are only a few tables, and the owners sometimes lock the door, but theyre in there and do is done great food!

Upon first look. The area is slightly terrifying, but we didnt walk here so who cares. This food is amazing. Perfect spice and the naan is the best. Super friendly make you feel at home owners who cook right in front of you. If I lived here Id drive through the hood just to come here.

Shady neighborhood but the couple at the resturant is super nice and the food is delicious!! They have tables where you can eat there or you can take your food home. My friend and I ate our food there. Nice experience, food is fresh and cooked to order.

The food was absolutely amazing. My friends and I were visiting SF on our west coast trip and found this place on Yelp. The place is ran by a husband and wife pair and theyre absolutely adorable. Everything is amazing, you wont be disappointed!!!!!!

In a world where everything is canned and premade and cookie cutter it is nice to find wonderful places like Masala Cuisine. This is how going out to eat should be. I am so happy I found Masala.

Charming authentic Indian food cooked by an older Indian couple. Everything is slow, so be prepared to wait a while. No frills, but thats what gives it its charm.
