The location is phenomenal and the food is okay. But the worst thing ever happened to me when I went for breakfast for my one year anniversary. We trecked all the way from Capistrano beach because I was dying for their breakfast chilaciles dish. When we arrived, we were told we were 2 minutes too late for breakfast, sorry. We sat down and had our lunch. We ordered the calamari, the seasonal lobster bisque and the kobe burger and the banana dessert. We generally tend to share dishes that way we can try more things. It was a rainy rainy day! They have these blankets you can use to warm up if youre sitting outside. So we were using them. My love left to go to the bathroom, and because it was raining, and they dont have a bathroom on site, he wore the blanket across his shoulders. Just like the latest comment said, it takes FOREVER to get checked out here. So, I sat behind to wait for the bill. But, with all the coffee we had (5 cups) and the rain, I too needed to excuse myself to the bathroom. So, I took care of the bill and then went towards the bathroom. This big and tall woman (6ft 300lbs) comes up to me and threatens me and intimidates me to stay until he comes back with the blanket. It was so stressful because she kept trying to force me to stay. She made a huge scene in front of everyone over a dirty old blanket! I was so humiliated. As shes harrassing me over the blanket, my love comes up behind her with it as if nothing had happened. I could not tell him and ruin our day. He wouldve felt the same level of indignation as I did. The thing is, Ive been going there for 5 years. I visit the beachcomber at least every other month with friends from out of town... and usually you can say the same about the place, good food, excellent location, okay service, and very delayed check out. The thing is that I think that big lady is a new manager because Ive never seen her there before.... and in my opinion, itll go south from here. Im still so so hurt that over $20 blanket she would humiliate me! But its not just that she accused me of stealing and there was never any intention of doing so. I just had to use the bathroom because her waitress had refilled my coffee from empty to full 5 times, and due to the cold I kept drinking it to stay warm... :( Im so sad and I promise Im never going back.

Bad experience. We arrived at 11:40am and the wait was 1 hr to 1.5 hrs. We squeezed/poured into a few seats back by the bar and waited for the hr+ then finally got a table around 12:50pm. The Cevichi "special" was pitched to us as a meal for $13.95 so we ordered 3 of them as part of a four person table. The tuna looked better but you cant beat the special for the same price! Why not, right? We received our ceviche and noticed we should have ordered more of something else to fill us up. When the bill came, the ceviche "appetizers" were $19.95, not the fortold $13.95. For three meals, thats an extra $18.00 we hadnt planned on paying for what we understand now is just an appetizer. We let our two waitresses know our displeasure, then a manager came by and offered us a pass for some other time or a free desert . That must be some desert to make up for $18!!!. We wanted the price changed to the $13.95 that was quoted to us when we ordered ----nothing else! We left and wont be going back ever again. For others that may have run into this scam, please consider getting the waitresses to repeat the price at least twice so others can hear and you can confirm with all around. They dont seem to know how to pitch their specials. We got three different prices for the ceviche special by a few people.. I dont suggest visiting this restaurant ever.. rip off., scam... in total, we were there for just over 3 hrs... at least my 90 yr old dad got a pretty good hamburger as part of the $90 bill that should have been closer to $70. Overall, ridiculous rip off.

This place has absolutely the best breakfast ever! I first tried the eggs and potato skillet but regretted it after tasting my companions french toast. I returned the next day just to order my very own plate of french toast. The french toast is the BOMB! It tastes like bread pudding. I thought all was well with the french toast until I tasted the lemon ricata pancakes.. so back at it again with the lemon pancakes. Just when I thought I had finally found my dish, I tasted the cornbeef hash. OMG! When I saw corned beef hash on the menu I thought it was the crap that came in cans that looks like dog food. The corned beef hash at the Beachcomber is the fresh, fresh, fresh and good, good, good. Beware you need to arrive early for breakfast. There are long waits and they only set aside 30% of their tables for reservations so its truly first come, first serve. If youre not seated by 11:15 you cant get breakfast. The cafe is located literally on the beach so youll have to park in the lot on Newport Coast Drive. Skip the tram ($1.50 per person and only takes cash) and just walk down the trail to get the cafe. Its less than a 10 minute walk.

We visited last Sunday morning and the hostess told us there was an hour and a half wait. So, we went for a walk on the beach and we went back to check on our table 50 mins. later. When we walked up, there was another two-some that also just walked up to the hostess stand. They said, "two for breakfast." The hostess sat them immediately. When we asked if they had a reservation, she deliberately lied and said "yes" when we heard them say they just wanted to eat breakfast. The hostess was discriminating and demeaning. She was rude and acting unethically. The hostess told us there was an hour and a half wait. We came back to check on our table 45 mins. later. I cant tell you how many time Ive drove past this and never made the effort to actually come...until recently! I had a friend visiting from out of town and I really wanted to take advantage of the sunny/warm weather, which has been rare recently! Parking: if youre a first timer, youll need to parking in the parking lot on PCH/Los Trancos (its the light after Pelican Hill). If youre coming south on PCH, it will be on your left hand side. You get 3 hours free if you validate at the restaurant. There is a shuttle that will drop you off to the restaurant from the parking lot. Its $1.50/each way/per person. Or you can choose to walk. We popped in for drinks and took advantage of the view. The bar area is open seating, which can be a hit or miss to come by. We ended up snagging some stools/table shortly after we arrived since a group happened to be leaving. The blackberry margarita is what a couple of us ordered and it packed a nice tequila punch! Definitely a great thirst quencher with the Cali sunshine and beach vibes.
