Where should we go for dinner? It was hot and stuffy out by me and him and we really missed the beach from the other day so we decided to drive down and see what we wanted to do and eat. We ended up in Corona del Mar off the 73 and decided on this place. Its an off shoot of Five Crowns and theres a "side door" that you enter through..not a main door - so be mindful of that if youre looking for it. Its set up as a secret speakeasy without being one but once youre inside its tiny, intimate and cozy with a few chairs and tables so seating is first come, first serve with no reservations. The whole point is to get cozy with a stranger or whoever youre with. We grabbed the half booth with a large table. We were going to do our usual - get a bunch of food and split it. The menu is ridiculously good here so you cant help but want to order everything. Since its a gastropub, its also very filling so its a good idea to get a bunch of things and just split them. We both wanted a beer but werent sure what. We told our waitress what we were ordering and if she could recommend a few things based on that but she was clueless and probably new and it took her forever to bring back a sample of anything and sadly service stayed that way with her. Eventually, after a few samples, we decided on the Old Speckled Hen. It was a light refreshing beer with hints of toffee. For food, we started with the Stilton cheese potato chips. So freakin good but beware of the stinky cheese. We devoured this dish and then moved onto the SideDoor burger with American kobe and manchego cheese. This was amazing. The bun was really really good but the burger is kinda messy with all that cheese. We finished dinner with the mac and cheese with sausage. This is amazingly cheesy and gooey..just the way I like it. Food was so good and very filling. Menu changes frequently so well probably be back.

SideDoor is a gem. It is a historic English gastropub (literally on the side of the Five Crowns hotel) with a romantic cozy setting and a bar. The delicious menu is updated regularly, but you can always find their classic Lawrys prime rib sandwich and chips, as well as excellent cheese and charcuterie plate offerings. The waiters are amazing, and receptive to making adjustments for allergies. No reservations, bring cash for the valet, small to medium place, we always come right at opening and theres no wait.

Real British pubs carry hard apple cider. I cant drink beer so I figured this pub would be a great place for me to visit. But no, I have been numerous times for several weekends in a row, because my boyfriend and best friend both love the place, but thered nothing there for me to drink unless I want to get overly drunk on hard alcohol. Hard cider is often on the menu but NEVER in stock, which is unacceptable at 9pm on a Friday night. They should at least havw Strongbow or another British cider on tap.

We went for Sunday brunch and I liked it. Good bloody mary and mimosas. I had the chorizo chilaquiles and they are good, 4 stars. Good decoration and good service. Update 05/31/2017 - The bartender is not that knowledgeable about sports itinerary. We asked about NBA finals scheduled and if they would be having them and he had no idea when the games were happening, same thing with the uefa Champions championship game. This doesnt changes their rating, just something they can work on.

Shame about this place, uptight management ruins the atmosphere - tried to sit in an empty garden last night and was told that they dont allow average joes to sit in it as they often have private weddings and if we came one night and they had a private event then wed be disappointed!! What are we 5? They try hard to be an English pub, but if a landlord tried to stop people sitting outside on nice evening in England, theyd be a riot. Nice beer though- better for a rainy day than a warm day

French Toast was fantastic, though it suffers from what most of the same dishes do and thats too much of the same thing. It could be served better by downing the French Toast side and pairing it with something else. As a dessert though, awesome. Huge selection of beers and wines, and the cheese plate options were perfect as an appetizer. Will come back.

This gastropub is attached to the Lawrys Five Crowns. It is dimly lit and has a very distinct, Old English styling to it. There are no reservations, seating is open, and they usually have a great selection of microbrewery beers. Great for a Sunday morning brunch or a nice casual dinner.

This is a beautiful old world restaurant with lots of french flair and the food was outstanding, presentation of each meal deserved a picture, the service was top notch and I dont believe I will ever be able to eat a soufflé from anywhere else. It was a delightful and delicious night

Every single item on their menus rotate; beer, wine, cheese, food and cocktails. Best drink list in Orange County and even though it is way more laid back than the Five Crowns in the same building, the service is akin to fine dining. Great spot for a cocktail.

This place is going to make me fat – Id go every day if I lived close. Everything here is amazing. Our favorite is the prime rib sandwich. Their drinks and charcuterie boards are incredible. The staff is always super friendly and fast (we love Christine!).

Absolute perfection! The outside of the building has such charm it garnishes your attention. The service is amazingly friendly and helpful. The menu, with its farmers market to table sensibility, is genuinely exquisite. AND THE FOOD is even better!

Hard to go wrong here with food. The prime rib chili cheese fries were amazing as was the artichoke hearts and lemon steam cake. Fish and chips were good but not great. I would stick to basically anything else on the menu and you will be happy.

Food is good. Service is a bit lacking though. We really enjoyed the cheese fruit platter. Parking is a bit difficult on weekends, street metered parking if you are lucky.

Great assortment of beers, in a classic British pub atmosphere. The food is delicious but very pricey. Attached to/inside of the Five Crowns which I would review similarly

Serving many small plates, there is a lot to enjoy. The chili is a bit rich, the selection for the cheese plate is perfect.

Very cozy and intimate with an authentic old world feel. Plenty of nicknacks on the wall to admire during dinner or drinks.
