I had high expectations of this place due to the high Yelp reviews but was sorely disappointed here..Sigh.. My conclusion: 2.5 stars: Over Hyped, Over-priced, Over rated & a huge disappointment. Youd only come here to watch the rich Newport Beach people eat & enjoy the nice decor & ambiance but dont come here for good food. On to the Food: I wanted to order the fresh dozen Oysters but they were OUT of that & also the Shrimp Cocktail & they were also out that too.. How can they run out of 2 of the dishes that I really wanted to eat?? =( Boo.. -1 I was not interested in the fried Oysters because when Oysters are fried, they tend to lose their flavors.. =( Ended up ordering: Home Smoked Salmon: 2.5 stars Ive had smoked salmon from Canada, US, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Alaska & even home smoked too (that was the best) so I kinda know what the differences are. They told me that this was smoked at the restaurant so I thought it would have some flavors to it, but No; all it had was a salty flavor to it. I did not taste any woodsy / other flavorings to the salmon. Heavenly Biscuits: 1 star Light & buttery; on the plain side; definitely not worth the wait (theres no place to wait @front of the restaurant so I dont know where youd wait anyways) or ordering here.. =( Clam Chowder: 3 stars Decent but was on the watery side & didnt have enough pieces of clam. Chefs Special: Sea bass: 3 stars Tasted more like a trout than a Sea bass; not soft or flavorful at all; on the salty side.There was also small bones in this fish which made it not as enjoyable to eat. Side of fries: 1 star: Horrible; very greasy & salty. Dessert: Ice cream w/ chocolate fudge: 2 stars It was just A-okay, nothing special here..didnt even have whipped cream.. Decor: ( A ) Spacious, nice & warm. Great display of the kitchen area. Patio area has fire pits & heat lamps; making it even nicer than indoor seating. +1 Service: ( C ) Good in the beginning but sporadic afterwards. -1 Waiter did even know much about the wines on the menu (he had to get a cheat sheet) & tried to push me to order the most expensive bottle of Cabernet when I knew that that bottle was totally overpriced. -1

This place has horrible service. I order a rotisserie chicken to go with shoestring fries. I noticed in my way home that they left the fries bag open and when I reached in to grab some they were cold. They were pretty much potatoe chips at that point. I called and spoke with the manager Sarah and she was super disrespectful. She admitted that the fries will often be cold because they leave the bag open. Ok, but they should still be at least warm or you should serve them when the customer gets there. She sounded like she had a smile on her face the whole time and did not even offer any kind of compensation. I have received better service from Burger King than this place. And at the prices they charge ($24 for half a chicken) I expect the best service possible. Sucks because I like the family of restaurants that Gulfstream belongs to, but Im not going to support a company who employs smug jerks for managers who offer nothing to make the situation right. I mean I would have even accepted a free bag of fries at a later date.

Defies Logic: I tried to book a reservation for my boss, for a party of 4 for 6:30PM. I was told 6:30P was not available. I could book at 5PM or 7PM, but if I wanted to "walk-in" at 6:30P there shouldnt be any problem, as they always hold tables open. This makes no sense to me, if I can "walk-in" at 6:30P, why cant I get a reservation at that time? So let me see if Ive got this right: They are not going to give me a confirmed reservation for 6:30P, but theyd rather hold the time open for someone who "might" walk-in. Apparently, the "computer system" runs the place....so much for A.I.!

Caesar salad with oysters were awful to look at and even worse after tasting. When it was placed in front of me it looked like a seagull puked on my plate. The seafood cocktail was like eating a melted fishy ketchup popsicle. I can still feel and taste the reminence of it on my tongue. I have no idea what the hype of this place is. Maybe there drinks are good? Kids split the cheese burger and fries that was good. Service was good. For the picture I posted I pushed the oysters onto my husbands plate and he ate around them.

The rosemary biscuits are amazing! We always order 6 so we can take a few home. I had the Cioppino, and it was the best one Ive had anywhere. It was also $30. Luckily I managed to stretch it to 2 meals by adding rice to my leftover portion. The fries we got with another entree were awful, but they will let you substitute rice salad or spinach, both of which are very good.

Very nice place to eat. Appropriately priced food with nothing exorbitant. Strikes a great balance between fine dining and value. If you have your heart set on seafood then you will leave happy. I cant help but compare to Banderas, just down the street. Same owners, but more intimate and more focused on being a steakhouse.

The place is so great because it has something for everyone... indoor/outdoor bar seating, fireplaces, big modern main room inside... its a gigantic place thats always busy and always filled with very interesting people. The wine program is great, the food is all above average and the raw bar is always thoughtfully stocked.

Food and service are great! But be ready to pay for the great food and service. Seating is only issue if you have more than 4 in your party. Either split you up or seat you in a cramped table... Have been there several times and have either been split up or were seated at a cramped table.

Gulfstream is luxurious, spacious and well lighted. I tried Ahi Tuna Burger at lunch. It was well marinated and was not heavy on the stomach. It was really delicious. Here is also good place to eat with customers at night. Gulfstream is located crossroad 1 hwy & MacArthur.

This is where all of the fancy Orange County people go to socialize and dine. Great outdoor patio for mingling. Best beef ribs Ive ever had! Even the coleslaw is amazing. Also very good seared tuna. And I cant forget the heavenly biscuits as a starter!

Yet another Hillstone gem, this time featuring New England-style dining. Literally the best crab cakes on the planet. Crispy oysters on the Caesar, a must. Save roon for maybe the most awesome dessert you ever had: tres leches with berries.

The oysters and chocolate Sunday is AMAZING. And the service has always been exquisite! Ive come here countless times with my grandma and family and Will continue to do so. And dont think the dishes are cheap! But they are worth it!

Busy. It is part of a chain of mid to upper class restaurants owned by the Hillstone Group. Good food, nice servers here. Like most of their restautants I have visited it is not quite and having a normal conversation is difficult
