I have never been treated as rude as I was this past Saturday night. After the wine train we stopped in at the tavern to grab a bite to eat and drink. The place was empty so we decided to sit back and have a few rounds. After our second round the waitress came and picked up our menus and walked away. We asked her what she was doing and she informed us she was told to do that. So as business owners ourselves, we complained to the manager who came over and smoothed thing over until this waiter (who was not our waiter and was very sloppy in appearance) came by the table and muttered something barely audible. I asked him "what did you just say?" he spun on his heals and said "it is inconsiderate to occupy a table when you are just drinking." I then responded; "it is rude to comment on things that dont concern you, we were just about to order until YOU told the girl to get our menus." I then asked for the check (which was well over a hundred dollars) it was not like we were not paying patrons and what went from a good time was ruined by this complete idiot. The manager attempted to smooth thing over but we were done. What was over a hundred dollar bill probably would have been over three hundred by the time we were done eating. Instead, we will never step foot in that place again with rude employees. Beware.

Wine tastings end around 5pm in Napa. If youre like me, after a day of drinking, youll find yourself wanting meat of some kind. For this reason, Norman Rose is a clutch choice. Its called tavern for good reason. The decor plays this part well with wood framing the inside---has a rustic and classy feeling to it. At 5:30pm on a Saturday, we were sat right away with little wait. Being a smaller venue, I could imagine it getting busy easily though. Service was very good. Our waiter was fun, had great recommendations, and the food came out fast. We were encouraged to try the ginger beer with the lamb burger or chicken sandwich. Having went with the staff favorite chicken sandwich, I was not disappointed! The ranch sauce is superb and worked really well with the chicken---contributing to it being consumed very fast (yum!). The truffle fries were also good, but restrain yourself. Eating too much of these can spoil the whole meal. Get a side of ranch to go with it.

I was extremely excited about this place. Finally! A local pub in Napa within a sea of over priced restaurants catering towards tourism. My first reaction when entering is that its just another clone of all those places. Prices are fairly steep for what you get. For instance the Guinness is the priciest in town that I know of at 6.50 for a US Pint (16 oz). Dont get me wrong the service was good as well as the food but we were hoping that this place would fill the Napa void. Especially after the quality and quantity of food/drinks changed drastically last year at Downtown Joes. Still, I was hoping for that pub experience that every county has except Napa County. At the same time if you are in a position to choose between Downtown Joes or the Norman Rose - go for the Norman Rose. I havent given up, my hope is that once its newness wears off, the owners might consider tweaking the pricing and menu choices to fit a major untapped market in Napa.

Terrible service. The vegetable soup we ordered was cold with very few vegetables. The waiter was slow with our order and did not check on us very often. In addition, the food portions were not equal among tables. For example, the table next to us got three scoops of ice cream on their apple cranberry tart, while we only got one scoop (the table next to us did not ask for extra ice cream). Also, we were sitting near the bar watching the baseball game after paying for our meal when the manager came over and asked us to leave because he wanted to give the table to someone else. The manager was rude, sarcastic, and insensitive. I have never seen a manager ask a paying customer to leave the restaurant, especially when a postseason baseball game is on. We will not be going back to Norman Rose.

While Im normally an anti-trendy establishment kind of guy, I found my lunch at Norman Roses Tavern to be a very good experience. The prices are on par for the area. I wish it were less however when youre paying Napa rent, you have to charge Napa prices. However, as though theyve done this before the team at Norman Rose added value to their menu by offering great food. I will be coming back and its worth the money for you to figure it out for yourself. Theyve a number of beers on tap and the wine selection is great. The beverage menu is 7-8 pages in length. I only wish the food menu had more to offer, however perhaps that is something to grow into...

The flank steak was good, but I wouldnt say its the best steak Ive ever had. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare, just the way I like it, but the sauce tasted quite ordinary. I also ordered the orange shortcake for dessert, but it turned out to be nothing like what I expected; it was more like a plain-tasting and rather dry muffin or scone (with whipped cream and berries) instead of a cake. The server also forgot about our table at one point and we had to call someone to refill our water glasses. However I did have a really fantastic glass of red wine, the Magnificat by Franciscan Estate.

Extremely prompt service, from greeting to seating and dining. Had lamb burger, fries and potato cheesecake - portions are good, not to mentioned it gets to you at good eating temp. Depending on day and time, especially after 4pm - this place hops. Find that the staff are quite engaging which makes discussion about the menu before selection all more enjoyable.

Norman Rose has a cool atmosphere. Typically Ill go with a lamb burger but I had the duck burger the other night which was amazing. The goat cheese, spinach dip made for a tasty app while we waited for the rest of our meal to arrive. Stop in for drinks at the bar or grab a table.

We were denied a booth when there more than 4 booths available during our entire dining experience. We had to wait a very long time for our main dish from when we got our appetizer. The food was good however and our waitress was very nice, professional, and pleasant.

Totally awesome. Ordered the lamb burger and a glass of wine. The burger was cooked to perfection as was the spinach. Food and wine tasted amazing. My finance is a picky gal and was blown away by the half chicken. Service was superb, even with the place packed.

Theres an element of flare in every dish - the chicken salad with pear and blue cheese is a great lunch option, while the $20 steak is one of the best youll find anywhere. Norman Rose has become a reliable regular haunt for me every time Im in Napa.

Great vibe and decor, attentive and friendly service without being intrusive, nice view of passersby in downtown Napa from the patio, and the best lamb burger Ive ever had anywhere. Very good selection of beers and wine, too.
