For ten years, we drove by on our way home thinking "that little dive sushi place cant be any good" but then, last night, sans kid and both in the mood for sushi, we thought we would try it. I quickly read the latest stellar reviews and we then thought maybe weve been missing something. It was full on Saturday night... at 8pm, in Mill Valley... thats insane for this town so again like the reviews, a good sign. Then came the crash of a tray by the kitchen. Ok, that happens in a busy place as I watched glass fly by the booth we were about to inhabit. Five minutes later, a second crash. Maybe too busy? Then the Miso came. Bowl of salty water and thats really about it but ok, theyre busy! Then the edamame. Mushy and soft but ok, theyre busy...? Then finally the sushi. Not bad but not great but just ok... ah, you get the idea. Now, when all was done came time for the table cleanup. They did that fast... so fast that both my wife and I thought the guy was going to splash soy sauce all over us by the way he slammed the sauce trays into each other. Speaking of service? Nothing of significance. In fact, we felt ignored. What did we think for ten years? Oh ya "that little dive sushi place cant be any good". We were right. Now, in all fairness, maybe it was a bad night but... were off to Sushi Ran.

The spicy whoso-sake crunch is a must order. No soy sauce or wasabi needed! I was told the hamachi crunch is great as well - both are located on the samurai special section of the menu. Their baked rolls are great as well. I had the bscr thought they recommended the Lion King. They also make custom to order. I asked for the spicy tuna with fresh jalapeños and they made it no problem. Highly recommend. Moderate prices, good customer service, Friendly busy lately cal vibe. I dont know why I dont give it a five? Maybe I need to try it again to just to make sure Im not dreaming or something.

Before I start, this is a review for the take out. Delicious sushi and rolls! The rainbow and soft crab rolls are really special. We havent been able to get a table yet, its always busy, so make a reservation ahead or prepare to get take out. Update. Weve tried this restaurant many times and it is always perfect. There is a little bit of a wait to get seated but not so bad. Try to schedule your visit and arrive a little early. Try the Cherry Blossom Roll and trust the nigiri recommendations of the day!

Great place. I got there just as they were about to close, but Brian (the chef and owner) was nice enough to treat me to my first omakase. The atmosphere is very relaxed and unpretentious, the portions generous and reasonably priced, and the sushi great. Highly recommended.

A great selection of sushi and reasonably priced for the area. The fish is fresh and the selection is varied enough that you can always find something you like. It gets pretty busy at times so expect a wait during rush hour. They do not take AMEX.

Hands down the best restaurant in Mill Valley. Their sushi and sashimi is on par with Sushi Ran. The secret is out: youll need to be patient for a table after 6pm, but it is worth the wait

This has been our family go-to sushi restaurant for a few years now. Very fresh and consistent. It can get busy at times, so call for a reservation, or be prepared to wait for a table.
