Based on the Marin Independent Journals food calendar for the past several weeks (perhaps more), Tamalpie Pizzeria was offering 1/2 price bottles of wine on Wednesdays. Since this place is a ten-minute walk from our new home it sounded like a perfect reason to try it out! We were quickly seated and when the waiter came we ordered a bottle of pinot and mentioned the special. A few minutes later she came with the wine (in a carafe) and two glasses in hand. She then told us that her manager said they were no longer offering the special and that he had been fighting with the newspaper to have them remove this information but it kept showing up. Now, I guess theres no way to know for sure but there were (and are) plenty of date-specific postings in that section of the newspaper for other restaurants specials, happy-hours, etc., so Im not sure why the Marin IJ would be so unresponsive to just this particular restaurant... Anyway, we were then asked if we would still like the wine with our dinner. It had already been a long wait (for the manager meeting I suppose) & we werent in the mood to haggle over the price of their on-tap vino...so we chose to stay and try to make the best of it. In the end we spent $98.00 for a two-person pizza and wine night: Decent pizza...mediocre wine...and VERY poor decision making by management/owner (who never did make his way over to our table on this slow-ish Wednesday evening). You can see a picture of the Marin Independent Journal in my Yelp review.

Great pizza and a nice atmosphere but if you go there during prime kid time (5:30 to 7), its a mad house. I have a kid but I dont want feel like Im on a field trip with the entire class. Seriously. Outside, youve got kids screaming and running up and down the sidewalk. Inside, its noisy with kids under the tables. However, as noted, the pizza is very good and its not their fault that they have a nice setup for families. 09/16 Update: Pizza is still great. Service still sucks. Mainly its the attitude. This is the type of place where someone from out of town would say "Mill Valley is pretentious". Last time I was in, the way the bar tender took my card and then slammed it back on the counter was pretty over the top. Im not asking for special "Mill Valley treatment". No, not me. I sold my Mercedes so you cant pin that on me... As I said, if you can put up with the tude, great pizza.

Love the Pizza here, BUT, miss the original pies they did when they first opened. The pizza crust here is to die for, but the toppings have changed slightly and the cheese seems to sit on top of the pie like a blob, instead of integrating into the pie as it used to. I would give them 5 stars if they would only go back to the original pizza. I also really miss the large slices for lunch! Ill bet the high school kids do as well. I understand wanting to be an upscale place, but the core of the business is pizza and the pizza has gone downhill. We used to eat there weekly and now its more like every other month. Tamal Pie,...please consider bringing back the old cheese topping and the slices at lunch.

Rip off prices for poor quality pizza and tiny portion. Good appetizers, but a 15 dollar salad has to be a bit bigger than that! And, I forgot to mention the very uncomfortable designer table, almost impossible to put your legs underneath. I had to keep mine spread open. And the service: half the pizza still on the tray, my plate empty but I may want one last slice, waiter comes, no question asked he takes mine and wifes plate... And she still had her last slice in her hand eating. Hurry up for the next customer, but you are losing this one for good. I literally think California pizza kitchen is better for half the price.

Home to probably the most overpriced pizza in the world. Thats not to say the food isnt tasty, it is yummy, but the prices are in dreamland for what is essentially peasant food. Its almost insulting when establishments try to repackage the simple and try to make it fancy. The decor is basic, and the interior is open-plan and very loud when it fills up. The staff were good but parking is limited. With so many choices for pizza in town, this one is not high on the list.

This is an awesome pizza place in Mill Valley. We stopped by randomly as we were driving by. The best part about the pizza was the crust, which was really crunchy on the outside but soft and chewy on the inside. Super tasty! We tried the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo and the Blithedale Canyon, and both were really great. I forgot the name of our waiter, but he was also extremely polite and catering. A pleasant and delicious experience you shouldnt miss if youre in the small town.

Delicious pizza. The crust is great, the toppings are great. They are nice and light and come out fast. Theres lots of seating inside and outside with great decor; also, there are plenty of adult and age-appropriate beverages to go around. Any drawbacks would be the price, but the quality overshadows that. Would happily go back if Im in the area.

Im torn. For the food alone i would give five stars - love the pizzas - best dough around and great toppings. Just delicious. The prices though...ouch! For a casual eating local pizza joint, the numbers always seem 30% more than reasonable. I keep coming back, but less often than I would.

Drive from San Rafael near weekly for our Tamalpie fix. Perfectly done chewy crust, great sauce and premier toppings, A truly world class pizza. The tre color salad is delicious and the brussel sprouts are absolutely sinful as is the ice cream sundae. Fun spot for people watching too.

Nice little spot to stop at for a pie. Calamari was on point and the fried olives were pretty tasty too. If youre lucky grab a table outside by the fireplace and enjoy. Parking isnt always the best, but being outside of downtown Mill Valley makes it a nice change of pace.
