OK Id give this place 5 stars for the food, but 3 for the set up. While Im not a fan of the building, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the food! Ill give ya what I dont like: This place is great for brunch, but the windows face East, so tables by the windows get drowned in sunlight and its uncomfortably hot. There is no place to wait for a table (and it can take a long long time), so youre stuck waiting outside in the sun, or scrunched up by the front door. Ok now that Ive gotten that unpleasantness out of the way, lets move on to why you want to come to Blackbird Cafe and often: The FOOOD!!!! Now Ill be frank, Ive only eaten breakfast here so I dont know how the whole menu plays out. But, they have very creative Benedicts, Omelettes, and Pancakes. I like the Elvis inspired pancakes with banana and peanut butter! To die for! If youre a coffee drinker, splurge a little and get a Cinnawhip coffee. Its basically coffee but with a mound of whipped cream thats mixed with cinnamon. Very tasty, and theyll refill the coffee, but not the whipped cream. And for the Sunday morning lush, they make bloody marys and mimosas. Other housekeeping issues, there is indoor and outdoor seating. Wait staff is attentive and knowledgeable, prices run around $10 for most plates. The meals are big enough to share, so come hungry if you like to hog all your food!.

There is nothing about Blackbird Cafe not to like. The servers give that old fashion, quality service that comes with a warm smile, and never act too busy to address your every concern, and make you feel welcome. Their congeniality is matched in full measure by their attentiveness and efficiency. Then theres the food, every bite a delight. I love the barbacoa breakfast torta. Every one of their spins on eggs Benedict will have your taste buds floating in a dream. Even carnivores will be impressed by their vegetarian dishes. Among those, the spicy tofu wrap (stir fried tofu, soy chorizo, and spinach in a sun dried tomato tortilla) shines brightly. They have what looks to be a top notch Cubano sandwich, which I would love to bite into--but Im not eating pork at this time :-(. Brace yourself for this: crispy home made potato chips, worth a visit all on their own. They are served with an addictive dip. I dont know whether to call it aiole or seasoned mayonnaise. Mmmm. One more thing you wouldnt expect at Orange and Wardlow: the option of sidewalk dining

UPDATE: A few months and several visits later I feel like the staff has finally balanced out. Everyone helping everyone. Some of the food items really are delicious. Go for one of the more unique options for the full experience. Dealing with the wait to get in is easy. There are a lot of vintage / antique shops to explore right next door. ORIGINAL: I will say, the ambiance here (once youre inside) is wonderful.. That alone earns it 3 stars, because it has potential, but beyond that, the place needs some work. The food was on par with most other breakfast nooks Ive been to, but it was the absolute slowest service I have ever received. Instead of being apologetic, the staff kept finding someone else to blame. It took almost 45 minutes for our food to come after ordering, and we didnt get a refill on water or coffee for the entire hour and a half that we sat at the table, though we needed both about 20 minutes in. Asking another staffer got the "its not my table" attitude.

Such a scrumptious local eatery! Blackbird Cafe is a cool spot to grab a bite - atmosphere is chill and the local vibe resonates with warmth. Service is usually superb and of course the dining is great. Im a particular fan of eggs Benedict, so with choices of it here Im a happy camper. Sandwich selections are also good but I prefer breakfast at Blackbird. The icing on the proverbial cake is a dynamic drink menu. Sure you can get a couple staple morning adult beverages, but Im talking hot stuff like various coffee and tea selections... even unique hot chocolate that will tempt your palate. Additionally, fresh squeezed OJ is always a plus for anyplace that wants to be serious about breakfast.

I ordered Eggs Benedict which is my favorite and I was not disappointed. Abigail ordered Eggs Neptune which is the seafood version and she loved. The Blackbird Cafe has a good vibe and great food. I have been here twice and I plan on coming back over and over again. The Blackbird cafe is relatively new in the California Heights area of Long Beach and the opened it in a great location. It is on the corner of Orange and Wardlow which is a pretty busy intersection so it should get some nice drive by traffic as well.

Its okay. The staff are very nice and friendly. The tuna sandwich was good and so was the kids burger that my youngest son ate. However, the chicken sandwich that my oldest son ate wasnt great. The chicken was dry, and overcooked he would not eat it even though there was bacon on it. My wife and step mom shared a portobello mushroom burger that came with mushrooms but they werent portobello and a mountain is sautéed onions for some reason.

One of the best things here is the tuna salad sandwich its my favorite thing to get with homemade chips..mmmmm Pro: breakfast dishes are A+, sandwiches are great, beer, coffee choices, pet friendly, ask for the daily homemade bread, great wait staff (that cares about you) Cons: long wait time on the weekends, no where to park

Went to this brunch place in Bixby Knolls thinking it’d be less crowded than Belmont shores, but I was wrong. Got there around 10am and the wait was ~30-45 minutes. service was friendly and food was good. I had an omlette and my gf had the tropical French toast. If you want a change in area or its closer to you, check it out. Otherwise, I’d probably choose to go to the other brunch spots in Belmont shores.

Great food selection and portions. Well priced. They have a kids menu and kids cups which were bonuses. Love family friendly establishments! The food was delicious and fresh, and service was friendly and efficient. Finding parking can be tricky as its street parking and tables fill up quickly on a hot summer afternoon. So be ready to wait if you want a AC seating inside. Worth the visit and will be back!

The walls are always lines with interesting art and new additions come in all the time. The food seems like just a normal breakfast joint, yet when it comes to your table there is some unexpected twist. The tropical toast for example has a mini umbrella on top, along with fruit strewn about. The black bird cafe is highly recommended!

pros: its really good food and coffee. the ambience is great, service is friendly. The cons: street parking only and theres really not much parking on a saturday morning and the place is super packed. no wait for two people or if you want to sit at the bar 30-45 min wait if you have a family and you want a table.

Decent food, nothing to run home and scream about. Service was a little slow and it wasnt extremely busy when we were there. The overall place is a little junky. The patio is nice. Inside is a small and a little claustrophobic. Im not sure how this place has as good of a rating as it does. Maybe Im weird haha.
