I would agree with another reviewers characterization of Berth 55 as the best unknown lunch spot along the coast, although it becomes less unknown every day. This restaurant is one of those places that becomes the standard by which you judge all other similar establishments. No one knows who the first person was to introduce their friend or colleague to this seafood lovers paradise, but Ill bet that, like me, thats how nearly everyone "discovered" the place. I cant even remember the first time I came here or who brought me, although I know it was some time late in 1997 when I began working in the area. I have since moved to Colorado, but I always make it a point to head down to Berth 55 when I visit family in southern California. The restaurant is located on Pico Blvd., at the end of the Long Beach Freeway. Its easy to find, but tricky to approach because of the large volume of big trucks plying the routes to and from the Port of Los Angeles. Its housed in Pier Cs Berth 55, hence the name. You can choose from any number of fish combos, all cooked fresh like God meant fish to be cooked acompanied with fries or coleslaw and topped by a ka-bob of some of the best grilled shrimp you will ever taste. My favorite is the sea bass combo enjoyed with a Cervesa Pacifico. Or, you can ask for a pound of your favorite fish grilled or fried a la carte along with numerous sides such as fried clams. The breeze blows off of the water, and gulls cry and wheel as you sit outside at a bench to savor your meal, take in the solid working class atmosphere, and watch the freighters unload at other berths on Piers C and D. It just doesnt get any better than this. Best of all, you can come as you are. Customers arrive in swimsuits, grubbies, California casual or suits. It makes no difference-- everyone will feel at ease here and will enjoy the experience.

On a Sunday morning, when October was just about to end, I came here with some friends. The place is located right off the 710 at the Pico exit. It is a fish market, a deli, a place to hang out, a lively eatery. My friends and I shared fried clam strips, shrimp and scallops, baked salmon, shrimp cocktail, fries, rice, and beers. The clam strips were crunchy and sweet, the shrimp and salmon were firm and salty and wonderful, and the cocktail and fries were full of flavor. I liked this little place and I am thinking of holding a happy hour for my colleagues here. The only drawback is that the restrooms are next door, and the parking lot whizzes by if you blink.

I came here Sunday afternoon with my mom. Berth is located in the middle of nowhere lol....I almost passed it because theres nothing around it! What I Ordered: - Lobster and BBQ Shrimp Plate - Albacore and BBQ Shrimp Plate - Shrimp Cocktail - Seafood Soup Everything tasted fresh and delicious!! The lobster was a tad under cooked though and very messy to eat. I probably would not order that again. The shrimp was very tasty! My mom enjoyed her albacore. The shrimp cocktail had a generous serving of shrimp!! I wished it had more flavor though. The seafood soup was really good! I will order this again for sure! I will be back!

First of Berth 55 has been in the harbor for a long time. To locals its the best place to get fresh seafood cooked to perfection. Not to mention the bar nearby that has room for large parties and a dance floor. weve been goin to the B for several years now. In fact for the past two years our son has requested to have his bday there. If youre looking for a trendy crappy resturant that charges you $$$$ for a small plate of food, youre out of luck. If your looking for a casual place to meet friends for a meal and drinks, to celebrate, to just be and have a good time, Berth 55 is the place for you.

Loved this place! Heard about it for ages finally went this weekend and had a wonderful experience. Fresh fish displayed at the front counter to buy and take home and a wonderful menu of seafood delights, deep fried and grilled, hamburgers, french fries of course! coleslaw etc etc all so reasonably priced youll think youre in a time warp. This place is no frills and wonderful. Friendly staff, fast service and indoor or outdoor seating-cool atmosphere too. We were there at about 1pm and by 1:30 there was a line going out the door btw so to say this place is popular would be an understatement. What a gem.

Went to the restaurant and there were no waitress/waiters. Not what I was anticipating. There were a few people there in the billiard room playing a game and a few people at the bar. Was totally confused how the restaurant operated if we order at the bar or sit down and eventually someone would come with a menu. Just left instead of standing around to figure it out.

I do enjoy how the seating is outside beside a dock where boats are parked. Its fresh, but make sure to claim a table with shade! Also, their drinks are a bit expensive $$ The food is to die for, but I would ask them on some of the particular sea food plates to not overly season the food.

If you are looking for a fancy dinner, this is NOT your place. But if you want an amazing deal on the best, most fresh seafood then this IS your place. I love this place, makes me want to move to Long Beach. You must experience this place!

The atmosphere reminded me of Fishermans Outlet in Los Angeles, but the food was below the quality of Fishermans Outlet. The clam chowder have me stomach aches but the lobster was very fresh.

I was introduced to this place by a friend back in 1993, it was great then, and it is still great every time I visit with family or friends. The Salmon plate with Shrimp is always delicious.

The best fish tacos ever. These are not your "Fish sticks or breaded fillet in a tortilla". This is by far the best fish taco Ive had and you wont believe the prices.

I had the shark and scallops. Very good here! The crowd here is way more chill than at Ports O Call. Too many people there. Berth 55 is the best place around.

Decent, fresh seafood made to order. Shrimp skewers are bomb, chowder is pretty good too. You can buy fish to go and cook for yourself if ya want. Awesomeness
