Um. Yum! Being a Southern boy and missing the food the most, I always had a feeling that this place would be special. But for some reason I kept putting it off, relying on other local favorites whenever friends or family visited. That changed today, and I am so glad it did. The chicken and waffles I ordered ($16) were phenomenal! The waffles had at least sage and some other savory spices in them along with a savory (maybe garlic?) butter, and the fried chicken had just a hint of salt and spice to make it interesting. The real kicker was the spicy maple syrup: real, dark, pure, with a Cayenne out maybe chili kicker. Very nice. (The iced tea was also very good, if unsweetened.) My wife ordered the tuna sandwich and was very pleased with her decision. I tried a bite and confirm it was very tasty. I would warn that she considered the potato salad "dry", so maybe consider another potato option with your sandwich. She has a preference for deviled-style potato salads. Also, cash-only. We came with two dogs after a long hike, and though the restaurant itself doesnt have outdoor seating, they did serve us at the bench right outside the restaurant.

We were very disappointed that this place with a long wait list and excellent reviews was just a very basic diner with very high prices.... the food was pretty plain, the service pretty slow and not Fairfaxy (by that I mean welcoming, friendly and personal). It would be ok for a cheap average diner not for a place that charges a lot for eggs and bacon. Our waffle arrived with a long curly hair on top the fruits, which when we pointed out was taken away and replaced with a new dish of no charge- this is the reason I put two stars instead of one. Maybe if you go there during early morning hours and closer to 3pm its a different story but based on our noon Sunday brunch experience I dont recommend this place to anybody!

This is the best Cajun food I have had in the bay area and the best breakfast place in all of the north bay, period. Their regular menu is chalk full of items you just dont see on other menus such as alligator, fried green tomatoes, friend oysters and beignets. I have eaten beignets at the few restaurants in the bay area that serve them and Hummingbirds are far superior. I am a stickler for exceptional dark coffee. I drink coffee out at Petes Coffee or I make it myself, everyone elses is too weak. Their coffee is so smooth, rich and dark that I am buying the beans they sell for making my coffee at home. Michelle, the owner, is fantastic. She is down to earth, kind and her heart is absolutely in the food.

While the food was not bad and the service was cheerful and friendly, the frenetic jazz, played at top volume, was just not conducive to a family get-together. You had to shout over it--literally. We asked twice for it to be turned down and even when they did it was still far too loud. Clearly, from the many appreciative reviews, lots of people like to dine to a din--but be forewarned, in case you are not one of them. My husband insists I mention the champagne: it tasted like apple juice--ok, white grape juice--cut with soda water :-) Also, because we were celebrating a birthday, they very kindly brought three pieces of pecan pie--but there were six of us. It was very strange.

There are so many things that can go wrong with a oyster omelet. The Hummingbird makes it look easy. Their Drakes Bay oyster omelet is exquisite. The bacon and onions are subtle, the dishs focus is on the buttery eggs and the huge, fresh oysters. Incredible. So good. They close at 3:00pm. We arrived at 2:45pm and they were totally cool with that. Recommended? = Yes. Definitely going back.

Order anything off the menu anytime. I had the everything gumbo for breakfast and it took me right back to NOLA. Sweet waitress and great bus boys that were very courteous. Quick service and amazing food. The chicken and waffles looked mouth watering and was huge, and most people cleaned their plates. Definite place to check out. Cute shops nearby if you have to wait for a table.

Hard to find good Cajun food out here, but they have it. Maybe one of the best chicken and waffles Ive ever had, and perfect with the hot chili infused maple syrup. Delicious and unique hot sauce went great with a fried green tomato BLT. A bit of a wait for lunch was ameliorated by phenomenal service. Ill be back as often as I can.

Very much a go-to place if you are a local. Their brunches are quite good. Its a small place though, with seven tables and ten bar seats. Typically you will wait on the weekends, but it is usually worth it. The atmosphere is New Orleans with jazz playing and typical NOLO dishes.

This place brings a New Orleans vibe that immediately calms you! The shirts say be nice or leave and that is something they live up too. The staff were great and the food was wonderful. Its cash only, but there is an ATM right down the block!

I in love with this place, because of the beignets. Its located in a busy part of Fairfax parking can be a bit tricky, but worth it. This place only accept a cash so make sure you have cash available.

Stopped here for a mid-ride lunch and the NOLA food (Oyster PoBoy and Beignets shown) could not be better. Family run and friendly. Great stop for hungry bikers in Marin.

Friendly, small, fun breakfast spot. The Chicken and Waffles with spicy syrup kick butt as does the oyster Benedict. Also bottomless coffee that actually tastes good.

"Nawlins" this side of Marin with to die for Chicken and Waffles. Wash it down with some really good Chicory coffee. And treat yourself with calorie busting beignets!

The food was good, though it took a while for our food to be delivered, the servers had okay, but not phenomenal service, and the restaurant is cash-only.

A great microcosm of the South. Delicious food and Michelles photography is an inspiration - especially the "playing dice with time" shot.

Tip taken straight from our change without asking, or allowing us to decide what was worthy. Disgusting behaviour.
