Hello, I never experienced such a horrible experience at Yamato until last Saturday. From the minute my family and I arrived, the "manager", Kimberly, was flat out rude. When we arrived, we were greeted then she said "one minute" a couple of minutes passed by and I asked my mom, "how long is the wait?" She said "Im not sure, the woman just told me to wait one minute" So she went up to Kimberly and asked how long the wait was. Kimberly immediately raised her voice (which was unnecessary) - shouting, she said "YOU WALKED AWAY!!!! YOU DIDNT TELL ME HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE IN YOUR PARTY" My mom ignored her rude behavior. She then had us seated (there was a total of 6 people). When my sister was about to sit down on the left end of the table, Kimberly YELLED - "SIT ON THE OTHER SIDE." My sister and I were very puzzled but we followed her directions anyway. When Kimberly passed by again, I asked her for her NAME. She responded with a loud and rude tone, "IM THE MANAGER" I then softly told her, "your name, not your title" She gave me a dirty look and said "Kimberly." She then brings a RANDOM party of 2 to OUR table. The woman and her daughter seemed just as confused as my family and I. My dad then asked why we had to share a table. Kimberly ignored his question and demanded the party of 2 to sit down. I then told her that out of the many times weve dined at Yamato, we NEVER shared a table with anyone, no matter how small our party was. She ignored what I said and walked away. When the waitress came, my dad then decided he did not want to dine at a restaurant where customers are disrespected. So we got up and left. Before we left, I asked Kimberly for her last name and she just kept repeating "Im the manager." I have NEVER had such a bad experience ANYWHERE. If she really is the manager, I think she needs to attend a few customer service courses. Kimberly not only made the customer feel belittled, but she made the customer leave. I dont think I have ever walked out of a restaurant due to poor service. The restaurant was completely dead too. It would have been a different scenario if it were rush hour and they had no where else to seat the other party, but that was not the case. She also DEMANDED us to share a table. Not once did she ask us if it was ok to have a random pair of people sit with my family and I. This is such a disappointment because my mom adored this place. This was our go-to family restaurant. It obvious that Yamato is very prejudice and we will no longer dine at Yamato. I made sure to share my experience on Yelp as well. A woman whos on a power-trip should NOT manage a restaurant, let alone be in a customer service setting.

A teppanyaki/sushi restaurant combo. I came twice for the teppanyaki and once for a lunch combo in the sushi bar section. First off, their teppanyaki isnt fabulous, but isnt bad either. Its pretty much Benihana quality, but with a little different variety of vegetables before the entrees. If I remember correctly, it came in this order: soup and/or salad, grilled zuchini and carrots, bean sprouts, shrimp, then the entree, which was New York steak for me. The steak was of fairly good quality. The dipping sauces were typical, one yellow for the meats and one red for the vegetables. As for the lunch in the sushi area, I had the combo meal that came with sushi/sashimi, along with salmon teriyaki and tempura. The sushi quality was okay, not great but not bad either. And the cooked dishes were good in a standard way. In all, this restaurant is solid, but I wouldnt give it a really high recommendation. If you live near a Benihana, just go there instead because the food is pretty much the same quality, perhaps maybe even a tad better. Unfortunately, there arent too many really fabulous teppanyaki restaurants in Los Angeles that matches the upscale ones in Tokyo Japan

Absolute worst experience. Waited 90 minutes after being told 30 min wait tops. Ordered our "usual" shrimp and steak. Fried rice was super salty, as the chef was more interested in what his neighbor chef was doing. Over salted everything. Drinks are pricey, and they under pour the alcohol. Sauces were extremely watered down, and had zero flavor. Bummer that this restaurant was always a favorite to go too, after tonights meal we wont be back. Silly thing is my parents stopped coming here years ago, when the place started to go down hill. We should have listened to them, as this is no Benihana. First sign of a bad restaurant is when the chef has dirty nails, and keeps touching his face while preparing your food. Stay away. I really want to call the health department as I am sure they would not pass the state regulations.

Normally, I have had a good experience here. Tonight was not so. BEWARE of the SPICY shrimp etc. SPICY means they poor a goo of hot sauce from a bottle on the finished food. If I wanted to dunk my food into hot sauce, they could give me a side of that. SPICY should be cooked with spices such as chill, garlic etc. Furthermore, the sauce not being heated made the food cold and dry. What also really annoyed me was that the menu calls for an appetizer shrimp and then I requested SPICY shrimp for the main course, so that I could have two flavors of shrimp to enjoy. The chef put all the shrimp together and squeezed a gop of red goo on the succulent sizzling shrimp that had just been cooked in butter and lemon! I mentally covered my mouth in horror. Ill stay away from the SPICY items on the menu. I had to warn others.

All in all, the food was significantly better than basically any other Teppan style restaurant Ive been to locally, and a little less expensive as well. Ruben at the bar makes great drinks! Service was quick and courteous, lead by Jonathan. He was funny and engaging as well.Steven prepared our food and it was excellent! We had shrimp, scallops, salmon, rib eye, Korean BBQ, and chicken. And he was very friendly and funny while preparing our teppan! All of it was juicy and delicious. The manager Robert was great too! He greeted us, sat us, checked in with us, as well as took a great photo of our group.a all in all they made it a great celebration! Thanks again, all of you!

I wont lie - I dont know what going to Yamato is like for the normal person that walks in. Ive been lucky in that a brother-in-law of a friend works here and we were treated to sushi by him on a few occasions. So, Ive never actually had to order something on the menu. With that said, our sushi has been amazing and of course our service was spot on. The fish was fresh and we loved everything that we ate. We sat back at the sushi bar both times. I have this place on my list to check out some night for non-sushi food.
