Our group of three was fortunate to visit SCRATCH on the night after its official opening. We were truly impressed -- by the exceptional food, the ambiance, the attention to detail, and also the willingness of Top Chef contestant Phillip Frankland Lee and his staff to engage us in conversation about the menu and the restaurant. SCRATCH operates as a "farm to table" open kitchen. We had three seats at the counter, which allowed us to talk (often) with the Chef and staff, and also to watch the choreography in the kitchen. Prepared for an adventure. Although there is an a la carte menu, the true adventure will be to partake of the customized prix fixe options, priced at $40, $80, or $120. Chef Phillip spent time with us to walk us through the options on the prix fixe options, asked about our preferences, and then provided us with a truly exceptional dining experience. The short wine list was carefully selected by restaurant staff and is very reasonably priced. We tasted several very good reds that night. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED . . . and a much welcomed (and needed!) addition to the restaurant options in Encino. We shall, return hoping that Scratch does not become a victim of the Yogi Berra comment that "the place is so popular that no one ever goes there any more."

Enjoyed our meal at Scratch Bar & Kitchen. We were only offered the $95 prix fixe menu. You must request the lite version which is currently $55. Although they accommodate dietary restrictions, we found that the substitutes were not very incentive or satisfying. As a result, I cant recommend it for those with dietary limitations. As for the unaltered dishes, I enjoyed all of them but I especially enjoyed the the pork belly and oyster dishes. I have seen others say that that left hungry but we were wishing we had ordered the lite version as we were stuffed. Very enjoyable atmosphere and we appreciated the chefs presenting the dishes instead of having separate servers.

How do I not have a review for this place yet? AMAZING!! We had the pre-fix menu (middle tier). I loved every single dish that came to us. This was a really fun dinner and we sat at the bar. If you want to have the experience of Providence (and the quality of food) but for about half the price you must try this out. Be sure to get reservations as its a really hot ticket and is a very small restaurant. If its just two of you be sure to ask to be seated at the bar so you can actually hear one another talking.

Loved it ! Watching the cooks is very entertaining, they are super friendly, beautiful place, great atmosphere, and every dish was a delightful surprise ! Small dishes, so we ordered 5 dishes between the two of us, and left completely satisfied. The LA Weekly gave it a not so great review, I dont agree with them at all. Its a great place for foodies and for a different kind of dining experience. Definitely going back, will probably try a tasting menu instead of a la carte.

Food Poisoning! Yup, spent $549.21 and myself along with my two girl friends got food poisoning. I wrote to them and no apology or response. Hate that I am writing this but at this point has nothing to do how great the food is, how pretty the dishes are or how nice you are. If you cant move for two days and end up with a stomach flu like symptoms for 5 days, I dont care how nice it is. NO THANK YOU!

Best dinner of my life! No question. Every single thing was amazing and left you wanting more of it, then the next item would come our and surpass expectations. They change the menu every month, but I will try to come back this month to try it again. AMAZING. Staff was super cool, knowledgeable, and fun to talk to ..thank you guys!

Awesome food! Great atmosphere! Really fun experience! You can sit down and watch the chiefs as they prepare all of your food from scratch. They were very good about my wifes gluten allergy. The flavors of some of the dishes were like nothing I had ever had before. Definitely make sure to check this place out!

The food is pretty universally fantastic here. The small, somewhat crowded space might be off-putting to some, but its fun to watch the chefs work. The one thing that is hard to get over is the considerable smoke that comes out from the cooking area. Wish the place had slightly better ventilation.

Amazing. Pricey, but very well worth every penny. I ate here with my girlfriend during DineLA and we enjoyed every single dish. Since everything there is hand made from scratch, I dont think theres anything Ive yet in LA that compares. You should definitely check this place out.

Great food, great staff. The restaurant has a small plates concept (tasting menu) with some a la cart items. Most of the seating is at a long bar overlooking the kitchen. Great food, elevated but approachable. I highly recommend it.
