I went to the Mikunis in Folsom my first time going, but since I live in Elk Grove, I thought I would review that one. This is my absolute splurge. I am obsessed with Mikuni!!! I get the same thing ever time: citrus blossom, zig zag roll, and usually the puff daddy or I have had some other rolls (i dont particularly like raw rolls so Ill go for something cooked). I like that you dont have to like raw sushi to go there, they have great alternatives for people who like cooked rolls. (oh yea and try the deep fried calamari!!!) ****Special tip - I always sit at the sushi bar and watch them make the sushi, (great for a first date because you dont always have to talk and its almost like a free show) but ask your sushi chef to suprise you and make you a special roll. Tell him what kind of things you like and he will make you his special favorite roll not even on the menu! I was made one with the otherside wrap a thin cucumber shell! It was the best roll I have had so far. *****Another special tip, DONT ORDER TO GO. If you order to go, I guarentee it is not the same experience. My husband and I ordered a to go one time when I was sick but was craving Mikunis. It ruined my previous experinces and I dont go back for a while. So no to go!

My wife and I LOVE mikunis. it is our FAVORITE date nite spot. we get the $40 for 2 deal which gives you soup, you get to choose multiple sushi rolls/handroll/chicken to share and you get a choice of four desserts. this is the best deal in my opinion. we also get a pitcher of the dragonfruit mojito (sooooo good) even though we usually dont finish it. we love the decor, and service is always excellent, sometimes i feel like they check on you a bit too often , but ive never felt rushed to leave. it is a bit noisy in there but next time we are going to request outside seating, it looks really nice and quiet out there. i highly recommend the puff daddy, Bobs roll, and the Mikey hand roll, along with the dragonfruit mojito. this is making me very hungry!!!

Been in the food industry in Kobe, Japan for 10+ years, working from importing seafood crabs, fishes from the Philippines, Taraba King Crab from Alaska, and swimming crab from Louisiana Pontchartrain Lake, I known all kinds of fishes and seafoods quality, taste, appearance and smell. Mikuni Food, in my professional opinion, is one of the worst. No doubt the service and decor is excellent, but I will never pay for a $20 a plate of sushi with the quality equivalent to $1 cheap sushi in Japan. Yes, I am picky, and it is my job to be picky. But amazingly, with so many good Japanese restaurant better than Mikuni, yet our information filled society is willing to buy high end money on cheap quality sushi. Nuff Said.

I would give the place 3 1/2 stars. Service is hit or miss. Ive had great service but then have also been ignored by staff before. There seems to be way too many staff at the front counter and they sometimes are in their own world. That would be ok, but as a I feel the customers sometimes are their second priority. They dont seem to understand the priority is always the customers. The food is also hit or miss, it depends on the chef that prepares your meal. We get the Black and White a lot, and its very inconsistent. We keep getting it because when its prepare right, its so good. Id say the food is above average but not great.

Been to a lot of sushi places, this is by far the best. We come here almost every birthday or special occasion. The appetizers are the best and the rolls are amazing. Any roll we try we like, although some rolls are better than others. Weve nearly tried everything on the menu and rated them. Here are the 8-10s Pimp my roll -9 Trainwreck -9 Tony Two -8 DMC -8 Sakekawa -8 (very crunchy and smokey) Aerojet with lemon -8 (very refreshing) Bobs Roll with lemon -8 (try with ponzu) You should also get the flaming shrooms (ask for cut in half), the puff daddy appetizers and the tuna sliders 1&2.

BAD Service this time. We ended up walking out. We were seated for ten minutes and no one even come to greet or offer water. The people on the next table who got seated after us received a better service, their appetizer and drinks came right away. I think it is an oversight on the server but its unacceptable. Your service went downhills. I LIKE Mikuni a lot but not TODAY very disappointing and you probably will not see us for a while. Remember customers have a lot of choices nowadays...you fail and they will leave.

Atmosphere was nice. It was a bit odd that I was seated at a table for 6 and I was eating alone. Ive enjoyed the Puff Daddy appetizers twice now. However, my sushi rolls were swelling in sauce. The combination of "crab mix" and three different sauces made the dish a bit too savory. I will come back and try other items..maybe Ill stick to the appetizers and drinks. Spent $30 for one roll, one appetizer and a glass of water including the Tip (my waiter was awesome)

I went here for lunch. I go here a lot and the food is always good. But this time my service was not as good as it usually is. I had to ask several times for a refill on my drink. I asked for a fork (they only give you chopsticks) and I never got one so I had to eat with my chopsticks which was ok, it just took me longer. I prefer a fork and they usually ask and bring it right away. So I think the waitress was having an off day. But other than that Good as always.

This is the second time I ate at Mikuni. The first time they sat us at the sushi bar with new trainee do I try to be understanding as to why we got slow service but this time we were at at the bar again and in the whole hour that I was there I only got to eat one sushi roll.. why??? Let just say that was my last time...I have never been to any place in my entire life and that is a long time and had gotten that kind of service.

The service was okay. My Sushi Order was good. My sister was visiting from out of town and ordered the Ramen with an egg in it. The egg came out completely runny, and she ended up deathly ill. She called and wanted to speak with a Manager so no one else would get sick. No one even bothered to call her back. We wont be going to the Mikuni in Elk Grove ever again

Mikunis used to receive 5-stars from me any day of the week! Unfortunately, as theyve expanded, weve begun to fell like their food is becoming more commercialized and loosing that ZING of originality, and flavor! We still will stop in once in a while, chasing the memories from Mikunis of Yester-year... But most times we now opt for a more authentic sushi restaurant.

I love Mikuni! Ive tried many other sushi joints, including every place Elk Grove has to offer. None of the others come close. The fish is fresh and delicious. My favorites include the Train Wreck roll, the Incredible roll, and Tuna Sliders #1, which is one of the best bites of food I have ever experienced. You pay for the quality here, but it is worth the price.
