Im sad to share this experience of my inreactions with the Whale City Bakery. As a single mother with two successful children in College, I now am a empty nest. Davenport exotic sea glass is one of my passions to hunt for, so i packed my truck and decided to live on Hwy 1 for awhile and treasure hunt the coast. I never felt so belittled and humiliated by anyone like i did by the owners of the Whale city Bakery. I spent my money purchasing my breakfast many mornings. Being across the street in the parking lot of the beach whare we sea glassed & would often just walk to get a coffee or use there restroom. I was very amazed on how heavy the negitive energy was coming at me when ever I came to the bakery. The assumption was that i was homeless and they did not want me around. The dirty looks, pounding on the restroom door, unkindness and the feeling of not being welcomed was so that i found myself not comfortable going near there because it was horrible. The last strw for me was i had gone to use there bathroom like many people do one evening and I never had felt so humiliated for going to the rest room ever in my life. The owners pounded on the door i opened came out nobody there so i went back in to finish and again pounding. I opened the door and the owner was standing there telling me i was in there a long time and why. As i was being grilled for using the bathroom the lady owner came out and asked why i was using the bathroom, answered that my stomach was upset and she yells real loud and with discuss " great your using our bathrooms because your stomach upset, just great" then slammed the the door as she left. Then I was questioned again. Feeling completely humiliated I walked away. Its flabbergasting to go to such a beautiful place on this earth and do what you love doing and feel so unwanted by people who are judging you for what your not and even if i was homeless shame on them. I spent my hard earned money on there food and recommended the pastries to many tourist as they flowed through the town. As a business owner myself, I could never treat somebody like they did I. This is a place where tourist come from all over the world and neighbors like i come to enjoy a little time away in a beautiful place We are all equals and for people who serve high priced food and caffeinated beverages should know that a restroom is part of the cycle. Duhhh....... I do recommend the cafe next door. Great cheese cake and food

My grown son and I were on a road trip down the California coastline when we pulled off the road in Davenport, Ca for a breakfast break and what a surreptitious choice we made. The food choices were amazing. The bakery was phenomenal. My son ordered corn beef hash and eggs expecting canned corned beef hash - it was real corn beef! The potatoes, the homemade bread, the range free chickens - everything was of the utmost quality. I love strong coffee; I usually order a shot of espresso to help the coffee. Before trying the coffee I ordered the shot. To my surprise the coffee was perfect without the shot. Were from Coeur dAlene, Idaho and I wanted to move to Davenport - actually, I wanted to move into the restaurant. I have friends in Marin and South Pas who will get your website. Wow, wow, wow! My name is not Michael Hagler, Im Geri Hagler, but Im not savvy enough to change our computers name. Go figure.

Nice place stuff was nice I ordered group Simon as an addition to vegetarian plate with brown rice vegetables made really delicious sauteed the salmon was grilled to perfection I really enjoyed my food however I ordered french fries to go on the menu is listed under home cut hand-cut I believe french fries and they were a little bit over fried I was little disappointed because I believe it was from Frozen bag Im sure that it happens from time to time that we overfly food the friendly advice not to be served I believe its better to lose a question then to lose a customer over the portion I was hoping to get potatoes that they are homemade or close to homemade I understand business can be demanding and busy at certain times but wouldnt be great to have a basket of homemade yummy :-) other than that great experience but I will stop by for another portion salmon with vegetables thank you

Ate here 11/8. Unfortunately, the food and service were both under par. Two of the three dishes we ordered were badly cooked - the Fish & Chips was undersalted and came with the smallest amount of fries - it couldnt have been more than about 10 small french fries. The burger that was ordered medium rare came out barely cooked at all. Maybe a 1mm area around the edges was browned. The server took nearly 15 minutes to even bring our drink orders to the table. The chocolate croissant was more similar to a "chocolate pudding crescent roll." All in all a bad experience. The Highway 1 area nearby was pleasant though.

In San Jose on business and drove out to the coast hoping for dinner in a location watching the sunset on the ocean. Found the Whale City Bakery and couldnt be happier. The pesto/bleu cheese/bacon burger on the freshly baked bun was outstanding. Add to that the skin-on fries and $5 Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing IPA, and this midwest boy couldnt have hoped for a better west coast evening. Next time Im in the bay area with a few hours left in the evening, Ill make this drive again (really only 45 minutes from the San Jose airport)!

This is one of my favorite places when Im near Santa Cruz. First, the food is very good, though it can be a little greasy/heavy. Their burgers are on the spot, and the roasted vegetable bowl is gigantic and delicious. The crab cakes are a touch on the small side, but they are very crabby and well seasoned. The beach bum sandwiches are sizable and hit the spot for a good price. Take advantage of the pastry/dessert case and ice cream counter. The pastries are great, and its hard not to like ice cream.
