I used to come here all the time when it was Todais. For a buffet, it was always worth it. But today, on my birthday, I went again with my wife and two kids, and I will not be going back. Everyone was nice, and I got my dinner for free for my bday, which is an amazing offer. But.. we made it just when dinner was started I guess, so my wife was $29 and even my little 11 year old son had to pay $29 dollars. My 10yo was $19. With my free dinner, we paid over $90 dollars. I couldnt believe it. Heres the thing. Buffet food, no matter what it is, is still "buffet" food. It is never as good as the same type of food at a standard restaurant. I can go to a high class Sushi restaurant and spend $90 and get an endless amount of sushi, WAY more than what you can fit into your stomach at Tomis. Here is another strange thing... I can eat a TON of sushi without getting full. All I put on my plate today was sushi, and after about 10 pieces of sushi, I started feeling bloated. I went back for about 5 more pieces and could barely finish them. I ate nothing else. Why is it that I can eat literally 5 or 6 orders of rolls (which is anywhere from 30 to 40 sushi pieces) at a standard sushi place, and can only barely fit 15 in my stomach here? I did research as well, and I believe Tomi fills their food with sodium additives to make the stomach feel fuller. Over $90 bucks for one adult and two children.. Thats robbery.

The last time we were here was years ago when this restaurant was named "Todai." Essentially, the same "type" of foods but different name. This restaurant has another restaurant in San Jose California. Parking at this location isnt a problem because its part of the Sun Valley Mall. The restaurant is clean and the waiters are there to greet and escorts you to your tables. "Sushi" has to be the main theme here because there is alot of it on display for those sushi lovers! There are a variety of sushis from the salmon to tuna and squid just to name a few. Sushi here doesnt last long once its prepared by one of many chefs so its definitely fresh and plentiful! In addition to sushi they have a variety of other great dishes; "Dim Sum, shellfish, noodles, soup, fresh fruit and a made to order bar for noodle soup. The waiters are very attentive and will take your used plate everytime you get back up for another pass at something else to sample. The price is very reasonable with supper a bit more. Our overall experience here was positive, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was definitely worth the price! Were looking forward for another shot at this great restaurant.

This is one of the better buffet in town. First, their very generous with their sushi and sashimi (but you do have to ask them for the sea urchin or monk fish). The sushi has very good flavor. Their soup station is always nice. They have various soups and can be tasty (with MSG helper). Their hot appetizers are very good. In the far corner by the restroom, they have the tempura and fried food. Again, very generous with the tempura shrimp. Another big surprise (and unlike other buffet) is that Tomi is not shy about displaying their oysters and crab legs, and crab. Their big tray is always full. Clams taste excellent and their vegetables are excellent and not over boiled. Their dim sum is okay, but for an evening fix, its not bad. Their egg custard bun is good, but save that for dessert. Whats not that good - their Korean BBQ short rib is too chewy, their fried rice is too oily, and their desserts are mediocre. Although its a fixed price, they do charge additional for drinks and have a 15% service charge for parties of 8 or more. Overall, its a very good buffet and nice atmosphere. Wait staff are also very attentive.

I remember coming to a similar buffet here when it was called todais. But I believe then it was more expensive. Id have to say this was worth the price if not maybe a little more. The staff was on it and nice. The options were plenty and delicious. The sushi had everything from raw baby octopus nigiri to the common California roll. They had a great time sum selection. A few good Chinese and Asian far as well. I do have to wonder how the seating will be when the tables are all full since they seemed awfully close to one another. The only con I felt able it the food was the salmon seemed abnormally melt in your mouth, not the fresh Im use to. And the Unagi had quite a few bones which, while eating whole fried fish doesnt bother me, Ive become fond of not having them in my sushi. Really enjoyed the fried pork belly, grilled mackerel, and green tea rice ball. The real draw, though, is the plethora of sushi options that should have something for everyone.

First off, let me announce that Im a texan visiting California for work. I was looking for a decent buffet. Being that I love sushi and oriental food, I decided to give this place a try. The food was decent. None of it was amazing or nasty, just average. Several times our used plates were picked up but never had our drinks refilled. No friendly hospitality or customer service Im used to in the south. After waiting over 20 minutes to receive my tab that never came, I decided to just deal with it at the cashier. I was blown away to find out that my tab for buffet for one was $30!?!? Ok $26.95 to be exact, and thats before taxes. The average food and horrible service did not justify my experience. I definitely do not recommend this place to anyone.

Eating here is such an experience. Granted there is a wide selection of food and the trays dont ran out, but the customer service is terrible. Asked one of the servers for some napkins and she begrudgingly pointed to the three napkins on the table. There were eight of us! When we insisted, she threw the napkin and stomped away. A few minutes later she came back with the check (weve only been sitted for half an hour!) Its seemed like all of the servers are irritable. You cant get their attention and if you do, they seemed to be ready to swallow you alive. I dont know if they are mad that there are a lot of customers or they are just born that way. Or maybe, they are not being paid enough?

There are not many Asian buffets in the inner East Bay that are not "low end" buffets (you know, the ones that are like 9 bucks for lunch and 12 for dinner). Tomi is definitely a middle to higher end buffet in terms of the price (anywhere from 16 to 25 bucks depending on time). However, for the price, the food is just average. Great selection, but food is not that delicate. They use decent ingredients but it tastes mass cooked and theres no spectacular items that really wow you. Not a bad buffet, but not great either. Yes they have oysters, crab, sushi, etc, but theyre not delicate enough for me to pay over 20 ish bucks for dinner--would much rather do AYCE korean bbq.

This place is horrible for people who are vegetarian. This place gave me food poisoning for 2 weeks already. Their seafood fry rice had fish eggs that were not cooked properly and the string inside was not cooked. The clams that were their had sand inside of it and that was not cooked either! If you have a family, this place is totally over charged and if u cant eat seafood thinking their is something els, dont go their and waste ur money! My whole family has food poisoning from this place. Even though it smells good, it must be something else because that place stink it made my sister nausous. Please dont go thier
