The food here is good and reasonably priced but, in my experience, the entire staff I dealt with are clueless and, inexperienced when they get the dinner rush. Stopped by tonight and, because they were busy, the Manager (the Owners daughter who runs this Chino location) sat me at a seat by the entrance where they had the TV...... BIG MISTAKE. I blame myself because I agreed to it. She did offer a booth but, it would had been a longer wait. In truth, they should not offer tables that close to the entrance where, customers awaiting to be sat are so close ( a constant chatter practically in my ear) and you feel this whoosh, breeze every time someone opens the door. Second, I asked for the baseball game on ESPN but, the bus-girl changed it to MLB Network and repeatedly said that the channel was ESPN. I politely asked the clueless Manager to please change it but, she insisted it was ESPN only to realize it wasnt after she saw ESPN on the other TV and saw that the programming was different. Twice she said she would change it..and, of course, the stressed-out Ditz never did!! The waitress was OK but, she completely forgot the tortillas after she said she would be back.I was already almost done when she stopped-by and, I reminded her by saying, "I guess you guys are out of tortillas tonight????"...with an answer of.."oh....." I responded with.."I dont need them now, just bring me the check." Went to pay at the counter where the Manager (Ditz) was again trying to multi-task but, anyone could tell she was stressed. The lady was so stressed that I handed her my card and bill without saying a word but, she responded by "Its OK.." with her head-down and, ran the bill. Odd but, maybe she was talking to herself perhaps, a little self-affirmation pep-talk!! And, of course, I stiffed the waitress..its unfortunate but, I dont tip for bad service as, I used to be a waiter while paying my way through school. In short, come here if you know the restaurant only has a few tables or, for take out. If want a decent sit-down restaurant experience, right-across the street is "Mi Ranchito" where at least the staff there are professional and, dont run around like headless chickens when the dinner rush comes.

Our family has traveled to Mexico on several occasions, so we know authentic Mexican food when we taste it! Not only is the food delicious but we always feel like we are on a mini vacation when we go to Los Portales! It feels like we are back in Mexico, so very relaxing.and you can not beat the food! Visiting Los Portales will always be a family tradition for us that we will pass down generation to generation. I will let you in on a little secret that has helped my family discover extraordinary restaurants, when you are looking for a really great ethnic restaurants, Mexican, Itilian, Chinese, ....... look around the Mexican restaraunt, are there any Mexican people eating there if you are at a Mexican restaraunt? The highest compliment an ethnic restaurant will receive is to have people of the same ethnicity eating there!

Food is good but service sucks Im a regular there i take my family at least once a week we i go after church they tell us the wait will be 20 minutes another family gets there after were waiting already for 20 minutes a group of six same as my family and they sit them down first and lie to me and told me they were there first to top it off they tell us it will be another 20 minutes when we already been waiting 45 minutes going on 1 hour I got tired of of them lying to me so I took my business across the street to mi ranchito restaurant their service was good their food was great and all I waited was 10 minutes to get seated so definitely that will be my last time Im going to Portales

This place is definitely ran by someone who has no passion for food or people. Definitely not a friendly environment. They dont accept any other identification besides California.. guess they dont want out of state travelers coming to try there food. They also took very long to serve the food. We are stuffed on chips n salsa which is definitely boxed salsa. And the high priced guacamole is nothing more then boxed avocado pure with Pico De Gallo mixed in. Very disappointing experience. Btw the owner Sandra is really more concerned about herself making money then her own employees getting a tip... sad place to work for.

The service here is always bad, but we put it with it because the food is good. Tonight though was the last straw for their bad service. We wont patronize this place again. The wait staff is NOT friendly and tonight they were actively interacting with personal friends who were roudily drinking at the bar. They all had time to chat with their drunk friends, but no time to take our order, refill our water, bring our food out, or bring our bill. There was no apology for the errors made on our meals and no attempt to make things right. Good food is not worth this kind of treatment.

Los Portales is a delectable experience. First of all,the welcome ambiance sets off the service you receive from the waitresses and waiters. The menu is extensive and will satisfy just about any cravings you may have when youre in the mood for delicious Mexican food. Im told the restaurant is family owned, and the pride of ownership is certainly very evident. Overall,I highly recommend it and personally love my eating experience every time I go there. So folks and amigos, bon appetit! Sincerely, Vic

Great place to come and get some tacos. I moved out this way from the San Gabriel Valley about 4 years now and out there you cant throw a rock without hitting a taco place, but out here a good authentic street taco is a little harder to come by lol. However Portales is the best at making what I am used to, I particularly like their salsa verde. They make some pretty good drinks here too, customer service is really good. Always enjoy coming here and will definitely be back.

Stopped here after a round of golf with friends on Friday early evening. A nice size crowd. Cadillac Margaritas were great. My buddy had the #1 combo. I had the Costa Azul (shrimp wrapped with bacon). You would never guess a nice place like this is next to Big Lots. The vibe in this place was nice and smooth. A bar in the back with a piano and singer adds to the ambience. Nice!

Been here for lunch a couple of times. The service has been going down hill as Ive been coming to eat here. The most recent time was the most irritating. We were not greeted when we walked in and the hostess looked like she was in a salty mood. The service was very slow. Our server barely paid any attention to us. We were seated in a corner and it felt like we were nearly forgotten about.
