Let me know if youve heard this one. So, Five Guys walk into a bar....... Five Guys Burgers & Fries, the East Coast transplant thats supposed to be the In N Out killer, is located at the bustling Cerritos Promenade. This would be my first experience with Five Guys and their fully customizable burgers. A charming interior with red & white as the color scheme, the first thing I noticed- Free peanuts! Free help yourself peanuts to snack on is a nice touch, but beware the piles of shells all around you. Five Guys burgers are served regular (2 patty) or little (1 patty), fresh and never frozen. Free toppings consist of- mayo relish raw onions lettuce pickles tomato A1 sauce hot sauce BBQ sauce ketchup mustard green pepper jalapeno grilled mushrooms grilled onions Unfortunately, bacon & cheese arent included, but available for a fee. Fries are cooked regular or Cajun. Being a fan of spice, I chose Cajun and dug into my cup of fries. The thick cut Idaho potato fries were soggy & limp. The heat level was decent, but I could handle more. Decent fries, but I prefer ones with a crunchy exterior. As for the burger, it was overpriced & the patties were underseasoned. I expect the first bite of a burger to wow me, but I could only muster a tepid response. Having a gander at the list of free toppings again, my inquiring mind thought most of them should be on a classic burger to begin with. Save for grilled mushrooms, a burger, in my opinion, should have mayo, onions, pickles, tomatoes etc. Touting these as free seems to just be window dressing. The Five Guys burger was okay, but contemplating the size & the price, I wish I wouldve gotten more and/or paid less for it. Besides the classic pairing of burgers & fries, hot dogs & sandwiches in various incarnations are on the menu to ponder upon. No combinations to save money, as everything is sold a la carte. Service has been good The line quickly moved & I had my food shortly after placing the order for it. A fair amount of tables to dine at, with availability depending upon the time of day. Parking is in a busy private lot at the Cerritos Promenade, with Five Guys located across from Gamestop. Five Guys Burgers & Fries has their devoted fans, but this guy isnt one of them. Small portions & prices that arent justified based on the quality, are reasons why In N Out still reigns supreme for this SoCal native. Free peanuts are great, but doesnt sway me from going somewhere else when the burger hunger pangs hit.

Ive been hearing a lot of good things about Five Guys Burgers from friends and media. So I packed up the family yesterday and drove from Fountain Valley to Cerritos to try this place out. Customer Service: Right off the bat, the guy behind the counter could tell we were fist timers. He gave us the quick tutorial and we were good to order. Regular bugers have 2 patties. "Little" burgers/cheeseburgers have 1 patty. Toppings are free so pack as many as you like on there. Their large fries = enough for 4 people. They give you a ton of fries. I also ordered a small side of Cajun Fries (those rock!). Wife & Kids had their Little Cheeseburgers + lettuce + tomatoes + ketchup. I had the regular Bacon Cheeseburger + mushrooms + grilled onions + mayo + ketchup + lettuce. My kids & wife kept saying = "In N Out" tastes much better, and I have to agree. Five Guys Burgers are good! but In N Out is great!. Also, my wife kept complaining that there was a "funny" taste to their fries. Turns out it was because their fries are fried in Peanut Oil. Id give them a 10 out of 10 for Customer Service 10 out of 10 for Freshness 6.5 out of 10 for Taste 7 out of 10 Overall

How much did it cost? I just ordered a cheeseburger, large fries, and large soda, and it cost me over $17.00! At least the cheeseburger was a double decker, and so thick, with the steak sauce they added, it WAS very juicy (not greasy, as others claim, but juicy like a steak). I found the menu frustrating because Ive never been here, and didnt know you have to "build your own hamburger". They dont just make it for you, but they give you a list of toppings to go in it, and you have to choose from that list what you want on your hamburger. The French Fries were horrible. I tried the Cajun Fries and oh! did I regret it! Way too spicy! Way too SALTY! It tasted like they dumped the fries into a pile of seasoned salt, saturated them in it, and then put them in a Styrofoam cup! Yuck! They were so salty they made me sick to my stomach--and I couldnt even eat more than half the fries without throwing them away. I paid over $4 for them? Im not sure I ever want to come back!

I dont know what some people are talking about. In n Out patties are thin & when Ive had the misfortune of eating one it tasted kind of mushy. Perhaps those people like undercooked, pink/red meat patties because Ive been to several locations (since theyre all the rage) & every one of them served me those kind of patties even though I asked for well done. Sure 5 guys is a little pricey but Ive never had an issue. Picky eaters will love it. Those who dont mind eating anything will hate it because subpar is their idea of great.

I only gave four stars because there were gnats present near the drinks and ketchup. Ive worked in fast food, so I know more than likely they are just after spilled syrup but still. However, I love that they have those choose your own fountain drink machines with all the flavor options. Im one of those people who enjoys lime coke. Its not the same, the lime is definitely stronger than if it came bottled or in a can. But Ill take what I can get. Definitely will be stopping by next time Im in town.

Summary based on 1 dinner: --better than average, though not overall better than In N Out, just different --definitely greasier than In N Out --friendly, helpful staff, though it wasnt busy. They made my fries well done --$10+ for cheeseburger, fries, and a drink is a lot --easy parking, though you play dodge-em in the lot --air con on medium freeze --mega portion. Once was probably enough, especially since In N Out is super convenient for me and 1/2 the cost.

ThE sign on the wall says "The best $5 hamburger a man can eat" Can you please tell me where the $5 burger is? The burger wouldve been a great $5 burger, but when you spend $26 bucks for 2 burgers, 1 fry, and 2 drinks, it WAY OVERPRICED!! I couldve gone to Islands or Red Robin and gotten a way better burger and fries for the same price or cheaper. This place is gonna price themselves put of the market. Just not worth it!!!

I like this location, the food was good. Service was just ok. When I went up to order the person just looked at me. I am guessing most people who go have been there before or often and immediately start talking. A simple "what would you like" or "how can I help you". After my order was done every step after that was great....

Even though Im a Californian, born and raised, I prefer Five Guys burgers over InNOut burgers. I get a Bacon Cheeseburger, All The Way, with BBQ Sauce. They also have Cajun fries! Yum! Its all a little messy, but so good! Restaurant is usually clean and the staff is very friendly!
