History Established in 1979 Cafe Rio, on the beach in Rio Del Mar, California, earned its fine reputation with exceptionally fresh seafood and great service. Established in 1979, the Original Cafe Rio has a long tradition as a local favorite, where many memorable dinners have been served and numerous salutations have been made. This summer, new owner Jeanne Harrison, who managed the Cafe Rio for 20+ years, brought the Cafe Rio back with its original menu, added some delicious new menu choices, and reestablished the emphases on attentive service that made this restaurant so successful. With this being said, we hope you enjoy your experience and thank you for coming! Meet the Business Owner: Queenie H. Jeanne recently purchased Cafe Rio and opened in June of 2011. She used to be the manager for the original owner Pat Duggan for 20+ years and now she calls it her own!

Greatly surprised on April 3, 2015! When Café Rio changed ownership a few years back, the menu had been changed and we did not like the food at all. We had not been back for at least 5 years. We took a chance, a friend of ours let us know that the original menu from early 2000s was BACK! I ordered the salmon my husband ordered the seafood pasta dish, and both were cooked to perfection. Turns out the original restaurant manager took over the restaurant and brought back all of our favorite items on the menu! We used to eat there at least 3 times a month, so we are glad to have a great restaurant so close to our home in Seascape.

I had the wort dining experience of my life at Cafe Rio. The food was marginable given the cost and the service was awful. The new owners of this reteraunt were rude and mean to our party even after spening over $300. I will never ever go back to Cafe Rio. After looking at the reviews at many other websites, I can see my dining experience was not much different than others have had. Anyone that had been to the old Cafe Rio would not be happy to return since the ownership changed earlier this year. Avoid this place like the plague and ignore any reviews prior to February when the new owner took over.

We had a gift card from here, so decided to try it with the new owners. If I could give it negative stars I would !!!! I dont know where to begin ?? Everything was terrible from beginning to end. The salad was awful, the entree was icky, too saucy and small portion for the price. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and I wont go back until someone else takes it over. Waaaay over priced and awful food to boot.

We have been here several times. The service is always good and its hard to order anything bad from the menu. This past time the lobster ravioli was way over salted and I couldnt finish it, but the time before it was perfect. Consistency in a dish is a big issue for me at a restaurant of this caliber and price, so I give it 4 stars. The bread they serve at each table, which good, also needs to be warm, not room temp.

I have been to Cafe Rio twice recently. Both times the food and the service were great. Each time, one member of the party ordered the specials and they were excellent. The short ribs were delicious as well. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive without being the least pesky. This is not a cheap meal, but I think it is well priced for the quality.

My daughter & I stopped by on saturday 8/12 and had the worst server with a really ugly attitude serve us. We even asked her about her attitude and her reply it was too busy?...She trew the check on the table and walked away w/o saying a word. She was a young girl with a nose ring and a pretty bad attitude.I will not be recommending this place at all

Back to being excellent!! This place had different ownership for awhile and sucked, but its back to the old menu and great quality! Get the sand dabs or clams if you like seafood. The burger (only available for lunch) is excellent. Friendly service and neighborhood feel.

Nice quiet restaurant when we went on a Sunday night(party of 5) Food was decent service was good but the food took awhile to get to the table...not sure why since it was not packed at all, so minus one star but I would go there again.

Great food, (we tried the gluten free pasta, salmon, crab cakes, and house salad) and great live music. Really good gluten-free pasta with vegetables. Friendly and helpful service.
