On the way out to Santa Cruz, we passed by the small sign advertising "fried artichokes!", so we had to stop by on the way out (after checking internet reviews, which were mostly positive). It certainly is a hole in a wall (except theres nothing much around for miles, so theres not really a "hole" for it to be in the wall of...), but dont let that fool you - our omelettes were fantastic, and came with home-made muffins that were also fantastic. (Funnily enough, I wasnt so impressed with their signature fried artichokes, though my girlfriend was.) The waitress, who I think might have been the owner, was super-attentive to us but not in the weird way, and everything was just slow enough that you know it was actually cooked fresh, but still quite fast. Dinners were surprisingly expensive on the menu given the area, but their breakfasts were totally reasonably priced.

Great little place and according to the menu "its where the locals come." I dont blame them. The food is so fresh and well prepared. The owner is the chef and it shows in the care that is taken with the quality of the food. My daughter had the Cesar Salad and it was not only pretty when it arrived to our table but there was plenty of it. I had the fried Calamari and every bite was tender cooked perfectly. We ordered the fried Artichokes, which was the sign that drew us here in the first place. We were not disappointed. If youre not hungry, passing by, stop and have the fried Artichokes and a beer. Trust me, you wont regret it.

Maybe the best breakfast ever: After our sad little breakfast at a nearby B&B, we were hungry for lunch. This looked like a place where you could get an actual meal so we gave it a try and for lunch ordered another breakfast. A real breakfast—wonderful food and plenty of it. Warm welcoming service and one of our best dining experiences ever. If you are a foodie looking for California cuisine—pitiful little servings of ever-so-precious food, go someplace else. If want actual food that arrives at your table quickly and tastes fantastic, this is it. Highly recommended. Six stars.

This cafes completely non-descript appearance would never attract anyone, but, if you take the locals advice and stop in for breakfast or lunch, youll keep coming back time after time. Friends told us about this local treasure three years ago and now we stop in every time we go through Moss Landing. The Breakfasts are unsurpassed and the Lunches are equally an excellent buy. Weve never been for dinner but see no reason to believe it too wouldnt be excellent. Great service, friendly staff and the chef/ owner always welcomes repeat customers.

We had a great dinner here. The owner/chef was really friendly and helpful, he picked out a fantastic wine for us. It was nice having the guy that created the menu & specials explain it to us. He also cut our ribeye steak himself it was a fantastic cut the cabernet sauce was excellent, the almond crusted Hawaiian sea bass was really good too! I would give it five stars but the rice and carrots were just ok. Everything else about this great little restaurant was five stars.

This is an honest. small town cafe, with super high standards. My son and I stopped for lunch while on a road trip with a time constraint and we came away full, happy and fast. The staff were cheerful and guided us toward two specials, beef stew over polenta, and grilled turkey bacon and avocado sandwich both of which were excellent. The chief personally came out to check on our meal and ask us how we were doing, which makes for first class service in my book.

Dinner menu is exquisite. Service phenomenal. Dont let the exterior fool you. We were staying at the moss landings captains inn and referred here. As we walked up, we assumed wed find the standard cheeseburger cafe. How wrong we were. Excellent service, outstanding food, a menu you would never expect to find at such a remote location. So great we went back for Night 2!

I love this place. Ive been here for lunch once before a few weeks ago and I am currently eating breakfast for the 3rd time right now. Its not the easiest to pull into if youre going North bound, but south bound is a breeze. I missed the turn this morning, traveled 4miles down the road and turned back. Thats how good this place is. Great food. Great service. Great portions.

The breakfasts are amazing with the skirt steak and eggs being one of my personal favorites, but I have never had anything bad here. The extra special treat is their dinners on Friday and Saturday - truly amazing. The place is quaint, personable, and charming. The staff is attentive and the owner is always there putting love into his restaurant and community.

Delicious little cafe right at the entrance road to moss landing. Extremely friendly staff with some fresh veggie and seafood based omelets. The morning we went they served a wonderful homemade carrot cake muffin. I think this joint is perfect to load up on a proper breakfast before going to play with the otters.

Best food around!! The outside looks a little run down but dont pass this treasure by! Amazing fresh food! The owners know most everyone by name...and did I mention the food is amazing! My husband planned our entire anniversary trip around eating lunch here.

My toddler and I come here almost every weekend for breakfast. The food.is always great, the service is spot on and its just a real, genuine place. Great atmosphere. Its small, so it gets packed easily, but the turn over is quick enough to not mind a wait.

Stopped in due to interest in the fried artichoke sign. Fresh, not marinated, hearts in a light batter were yummy. Every seat in the restaurant was filled so my husband and I ate on the bench out front. Totally worth the random stop we made.

Great food and the owner is the chef. He come to the tables and tells you what hes preparing and is very social, personable and jovial. His cafe has been there for 32 years as of this posting. Parking is limited but the cafe is small anyway.

This is our favorite place! We have lived in the area for 8 years now and are coming to this establishment at least once a week. Everything is delicious! Mark, the owner, and all of his staff make us feel loved and welcomed.

My score is based on the breakfast (see menu picture). The food was good yet plain. The omelet was better than the scramble eggs, the hashbrowns were undercooked. The toast was good and there is a lot of choice.

Rather bland food, presented like at a fast food joint, mediocre filter coffee (the only choice of coffee), overcharged the bill by 10%, corrected it after being notified without an apology.
