First, let me start off by saying that I really wanted to like this place. I and some friends went there mid morning on March 2nd, 2014. We have a lot of trendy restaurants in the area, and this is a great new addition. Having said that, I wouldnt choose to return for the following reasons: 1. The place was really quite dirty with numerous uncleared tables. I had to wait for someone to clear and wash a table before I sat down. 2. The cashier was unfamiliar with the menu. - I asked twice if they served sugar-free flavors for coffee, was told both times they did; and then, I was served a coffee with sugar-based flavoring. - The latte I ordered was undrinkably sweet. Not only was the flavoring sugar-based, but it was so incredibly sweet you couldnt taste the coffee. It was like drinking syrup from a bottle. Truly terrible. They did remake the drink when I asked, but of course thats when I found out they had no sugar-free flavors. 3. Orders placed at the same time delivered at different times. It was approximately 30 minutes between the first order delivery and the final one. 4. Incomplete order. A sausage ordered and paid for separately was not included in the order (we didnt ask for this to be corrected mainly because it took so long for the order to be delivered to begin with). 5. Terrible wait times and service, although the young lady cleaning tables and helping us with issues was pleasant when we engaged her. 6. Price / Value for Food / Service is way too high. You definitely dont get your moneys worth here by any measure. 7. For the price of food/service, Id expect decent utensils--we were provided plastic. Wasteful, and low class considering what it costs to eat there. 8. They didnt have enough coffee cups. They ran out of coffee cups and its a coffee shop / cafe. Stunning. 9. The product was delivered to the table cold. 10. The overly sweetened coffee was cold as well. I think Ill stick to Over Easy--its just down the street.

Amazing. I had the pleasure of dining here for breakfast and I (being 1st generation French-American) can personally guarantee that the chocolate croissants are as close as it gets to the real thing! As for the rest, its a fresh, high quality ingredient, great coffee, very personal staff and nicely put together place that I will return to time and time again. The only downfall is I live in N. Scottsdale, far drive but still worth it. If theyd open a location near Kierland, Id live there.

I could eat here every day if I lived closer. The staff is professional and friendly. The owners sincerely care about their customers. The food is consistently delicious, both breakfast and lunch! I am very popular at work when I bring cookies and pastries for birthdays and holidays. I love walking in first thing in the morning when they open! The smell of the freshly baked bread and pastries just make my day! I feel like I am back in Europe again. I highly recommend Essence.

Best breakfast in Phoenix. Everything about this place is great. Their toast is incredible. My wife and I paid $4 for toast because it is that good. My wife even dropped a piece if toast on the floor once and picked it up and ate it still. Thats how good their toast is. Scrambled eggs are incredible and their sauteed mushrooms are psrfection.

I am only a fan of their macarons. They are generally busy at lunch and unfortunately their service gets worse. Last time, I was there with my friend on a busy lunch time and we ordered roasted beef sirloin on crusty French bread. Mine was cooked but my friends was not cooked at all. They should be careful with the quality of their food.

A wonderful, creative and gifted chef, from the folding of her eggs with a taste so lovely it melts in your mouth- to the perfect croissant pastries of many kinds. Open the door to this neighbor gem and be greeted by happy and excellent service employees.

I am providing 5-Stars simply because of the food quality. The food is cooked to bring out the "Essence" of the foods, with natural flavors mixed to perfection. That said, if you are in a hurry go somewhere else.

I hate to draw any more attention to this restaurant because I can still get a table, but the flavors are amazing with everything they serve. The coffee is the best I have had. Parking is VERY limited.
