I live nearby and have driven by this place often, but tried it the first time tonight. Person taking my order was very polite and professional. I ordered Sweet & Sour Pork & Chicken Fried Rice. I admit Ive been spoiled by New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Boston Chinese, but because there prices were similar to what someone would pay in those cities for good chinese I thought they might be good here. While I waited for my order, 4 people came in for their own takeout while I was waiting for mine. All of them raved about the food. However, what I got for Chicken Fried Rice beared no resemblence to what Ive had elsewhere or what I can make in 15 minutes at home. No vegetables, no seasoning on the meat or elsewhere just some blah rice stir fried in oil. Good fried rice is made with peas and carrots and either scallions or onion diced very small and then sauted at a minimum. That alone makes those dishes completely different than what I got at Yen Ching. The best places in those cities add eggs to their recipe as a binder, as well as either bamboo shoots or water chestnuts or both. The combination of these last ingredients give the dish a flavor and consistency such that it takes it to a whole other level - Yen Ching does not use scallions, peas, carrots, scallions, eggs, bamboo shoots or water chesnuts in their recipe. Sweet & Sour Pork wasnt any better. Instead of smaller pieces of vegetables, there were hunks of onion so large that it was impossible to get anything else on my fork - I must admit Ive never taken the time to master chopsticks. The dish also contained hunks of pineapple that were twice the size they needed to be. Ive enjoyed this dish most at other places when it was made by cutting things into smaller size pieces, which allows for combining of the various tastes. The best versions of this dish Ive ever had used scallions instead of white onions, as the latter tends to over power everything else on the plate. Besides the onion, the only other vegetables in my dish were two large hunks of green bell pepper, instead of mix of smaller pieces of carrots and both red and green bell peppers as Ive had elsewhere; The pork itself was of very poor quality, really rubbery and had little taste - I doubt there was anything that could have saved the pork. What was in large quanity was the sauce itself - twice the size than was required for the portion I was provided, which Im sure they have pre-made in gallon jars. Bean sprouts would have also improved this dish. All in all I was disappointed.

We tried this for the first and found the food to be bland was not cooked in any way I would expect. The chicken was fat and seemed boiled. The breading on the orange and sesame chicken was soggy and fell off. The sauce on the Chow Mein was clear and tasted old. The orange chicken had no orange peels or chili or spice of any kind. I have never been this disappointed in a meal before. I spent 60 to feed two adults and a child and feel angry at the extraordinary lack of quality for the cost. We threw out three quarters of the food. Do yourself a favor and go to Panda Express instead. Not that I feel Panda is good Chinese food, however at least its edible and you get what you pay for.

Its as though there are 2 restaurants... I have been coming to Yen Ching since moving to Mesa in 2000. I have only dined in 3 times... Each time was horrible food. Yet when we order take out its wonderful. We get same order each time; Shrimp with Lobster Sauce Shrimp Fried Rice and 3 Egg Rolls. The Egg Rolls used to be the best Id ever had and the main reason I had continued to go back. Recently it seems they have gone for a change in both taste and texture. The past 3 times each bite of eggroll finds my thoughts on fodder, and other bovine feed. Ill keep returning though for Shrimp w/ lobster sauce .

Not the best place for Chinese and it was due to the customer service. Ordered General Tsos chicken and it didnt look anything close to it. It looked more like beef rip tips than anything. Brought it up to the front desk to ask about it, the gentlemen told me the order was correct. I asked for my money back instead (paid with a credit card), was told that I couldnt get my money back because I paid with a card, and their system doesnt allow to do refunds. I was shocked due to the great reviews of this place. Maybe it was an off night, but it wasnt a great experience.

For friends and I had a late dinner here after an outing. One of the friends eats here frequently so recommended it. The crab puff hors doeuvres are quite delicious! I had my typical safe dish of kung pao chicken extra spicy which also made me happy. I also sampled the sesame chicken - very good! The service was fast, but I think we were the only ones there, and we stayed till after closing. I will return as the menu if large and there are many things to try.

Best Chinese Food in East Mesa - Weve never dined in, so I cant give a full review, but the takeout experience is great. We have tried multiple dishes. The Kung Pao chicken, Egg Rolls, Cashew Chicken & combination Lo Mein are our favorites. The Orange chicken is good, but I prefer the sweeter style. Everything was fresh and ready in 15 minutes. If we ever dine in I might be able to change that to 5 stars!

I read reviews of this place and the one negative review kind of scared me, but just after eating my appitizers I know that the one negative reviewer is completely insane. This place is awesome! The food is gourmet, the service is fast and extremely friendly, and the atmosphere is very calm. I highly highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys chinese food!

We have lived in the East Valley for 7 years now, coming from the west side it was hard finding a good Chinese restaurant. The outside of this building put us off for 6 years, then we were told it was clean and good food so we tried it! 100% Wonderful! We love the egg rolls, the S/S Chicken and the egg drop soup!

Very nice and clean. Great atmosphere. This takes Chinese food to another level one step up. The dishes here are served a little different than many traditional Chinese. Still very delicious. Just read the menus and ask your server how their dish may differ from other Chinese restaurants.

I stopped at here after work one day and ate dinner alone. After I had seen it multiple times and the outside didnt look appealing. But the food was delicious! The service was a bit wanting but it was well worth it. And it was crowded. I cant believe I almost slept on this place.

Seriously the best place we have been out to eat in a long time!! Amazing service, super fast and great prices. Definitely found a diamond in the rough with this place. We will be back very soon, I never write reviews but with this place I just had to write one.
