The Henhouse Cafe has horrible customer service. Terrible management. At first glance, the place has decent food. However, the lack of customer service and the lack of management skills at this restaurant makes it one that you should skip at all costs. I used to patronize this place at least weekly, but never again. I was in a referral group that met there every other week, but management could never remember to put our meeting in the books so the room was never set up for us. And now, for todays downer. I like my potatoes crispy and my sausage done; after all, it is sausage. I expressed this to my server stating "I want my sausage well done and my potatoes crispy, like burnt." My food came to me and the potatoes were not crispy and the sausage was not well done. The server asked, "is that crispy enough?" I said, "no." And before I could even tell him about my sausage, he took the potatoes away. Five minutes later, with no server interaction in between, my potatoes came back. The server asked, "is everything else, okay?" and I told him about the sausage. He took the plate and walked away, sans comment. Had he waited 2 seconds more, I could have told him that he forgot to bring butter for my pancakes, but he didnt. 5 minutes later, the sausage came back and it was this weird color brown, as if it had been in a deep fryer. I dont desire to die of a heart attack from grease overload, I just dont enjoy eating raw pork. When the server dropped the sausage off, he dropped it as he walked by, so I still did not have a opportunity to say anything about wanting butter. 5 minutes later, he returned and I asked for some butter for my now cold pancake. He brought the butter. 5 minutes later he dropped off the check and I asked to speak to the manager, and this is where the story gets even worse. The manager, Bo, was very defensive and repeatedly interrupted me when I tried to tell him about my experience. For instance, I stated, "I like to eat my food when its hot and all together." He stated, "well it was all together, you just sent it back." Me - "Well I want to gauge what should I say to get my potatoes crispy, the way I like them, on the first time?" Him - "say you want them so burnt they are inedible." Me - "That is rather rude." Him - "Well, I cant tell you what you like but my kitchen did nothing wrong." Me -"Bo, I am just trying to tell you about my poor experience in your restaurant." Him - "No, you are telling me you had a problem with the food, not the experience." Me - "Well, it was a poor experience, the server set the sausage down while rushing by and I couldnt tell him about the other missing items." Him - "No, he didnt. At that point, I was deflated and frustrated about the experience so I simply paid and left. I hope whoever reads this does NOT patronize The Henhouse Cafe, located at 3244 E Guadalupe Rd, Gilbert, AZ 85234.

Were from outside the Phoenix area, and have eaten at the Hen House a few times when we come to town. The food is decent (not great) but priced fairly, and the coffee is OK (not great). Still, we found the service to be cheerful and good, and overall its been a good experience. Until this last time. Incredibly, during this last visit on Jan 8th, the owner was wearing a gun strapped to his waist while serving food in the dining room. We know that Arizona is an "open carry" state, which we find sad and ridiculous, and certainly so in a family restaurant. I cant help wondering if everyone would be so relaxed about it if someone of color walked into the Hen House packing heat. We didnt notice this absurd situation until we had just finished eating and had paid the bill. Had we seen it earlier, or had a customer walked in carrying a gun, we would have left immediately and without paying. Talk about a buzz kill...a killing machine strapped to the waist of a waiter in a family restaurant boggles the mind. In what parallel universe is this appropriate, needed or justified? This experience leaves an indelible mark. We look at this restaurant, indeed all of Arizona, in a whole new way, and it aint good.

OK, so I saw the ridiculousness about Amys Bakery Cafe, and how they treated their customers. Ive been holding this in for about a year, but now Im going to tell it. I went to the Henhouse Cafe at Guadalupe and Higley Roads about a year ago and have never been back. Heres why. I ordered the seafood Benedict. The menu says it has shrimp in it. Mine had NO shrimp in it. It was still tasty, and I ate it. I did not complain or ask for anything from the staff. When I went to pay, the cashier asked me how everything was. I told her all was delicious, and in passing, I said "but the seafood benedict did not have any shrimp in it." I said this AFTER I paid and as I was walking out the door. Upon hearing this, the cashier said "let me get the manager" and I said there was no need to. She said she would do it and ran off and got someone who said they were the manager. He said to me "the cashier just told me you said your seafood benedict had no shrimp in it. You are mistaken. There was DEFINITELY shrimp in there." I said, "OK, youre right, there was shrimp in there" and left. Ive never gone back because of his condescending attitude to me and my intelligence. Too bad, too, as the food wasnt bad at all.

Love this place! It is wonderful to have a non chain restaurant in the area. Always friendly and fun. Our servers have consistently been attentive without hovering and make every effort to ensure the food is to our liking. The menu has something for everyone. The servings are large enough to satisfy a big eater. I always leave with a to go box. The chicken fried chicken is delicious. You can have it with biscuit and gravy for an over the top, I want a nap, plate of yum. The peach iced tea is perfectly refreshing. I suggest you go online to the menu and narrow down your choices before you go. So many choices! The only downside I have experienced here is due to lazy parents. During the busy weekend times I have seen small kids roaming around as they please, approaching tables and causing servers who are trying to do their job to also have to act as babysitters. Very dangerous to let little ones run around. I avoid this by going on non peak times and enjoy the great food and friendly people. Also the owners are so nice and have a son serving in the military. Oh and prices are reasonable for the quality and portions. Hope you like it!

They serve up incompetency and rudeness here. Incompetent hipster waiter was too lazy to simply walk around to the front side of the ice tea dispenser so he tried to fill a glass from the backside, ended up spilling it all down my right arm and pant leg, leaving me soaking wet at the counter seating area. Never apologized, just said It was an ACCIDENT. Yes, one that could have been avoided by not being so lazy and walking around to the front of the dispenser, obviously something he never considered. He didnt even clean it up, just left it there and another server and management came over and were so concerned about cleaning the floor that no one cared to even offered me a towel to dry myself. I saw there drenched in iced tea and then when I finally reached for one of the towels the manager brought for the floor cleanup (while ignoring me) he rudely told me to use a paper towel next time and walked away without talking to me anymore about the issue. UNREAL. RUDE RUDE RUDE. Will NOT be back and will warn others to stay away.
