Fantastic, fresh food that is very consistent. The staff is kind and very accommodating. The place is very popular, as diners travel as far away as Seattle for what is said to be authentic southern Indian cuisine. I dont know of the regional differences, but I have loved everything I have gotten, and often take home the generous portions leftover from my meal. The free soup is spectacular, and deserts are heavenly, but be prepared for long waits on the weekend. Full disclosure: I eat there at least once a week and live in the same town. It regretfully took me six months to develop the courage to go in since there is a significant Indian clientele. I thought I would not be welcome. That fear is entirely unjustified as I feel very very welcome, but more than that, I feel like a welcomed good friend each time I enter. This being said, the dining demographic serves as a indicator of the quality and flavor of the menu. This is, without question the best Indian food I have ever had.

Exceptional! If your friends recommended this place, its for a good reason - its one of the best Indian restaurants in Seattle. If they havent, its time they visit it! The food tastes totally authentic, balancing the spices perfectly. We tried vegetarian, chicken & seafood, everything tasted great. Most importantly, at the end of a long meal we were not feeling heavy - which means quality ingredients cooked the right way, without using too much oil, spices or ghee. That is a welcome change from most Indian places. Service is great, staff are sincerely warm & friendly. The place is small and has capacity for only about 40 people, so theres a generally a long wait on weekends. Plus they dont take reservations on weekends, so better to get there early. PS: this team has opened another restaurant, Kathakali, in Kirkland, which should be more accessible to folks living in Seattle or the Eastside. They promised me the food there is just as good.

Among the very few Indian eateries, this is claimed as the most famous one. I agree that we landed pretty late and the place was packed, hence waited for about 15 minutes. After the short waiting period, we did enjoy the sight of the array of dishes but the options were limited with regard to vegetarian. But as we started eating realized that, some of the dishes were oily and some not properly cooked at all. While I tried to mention about the food not being cooked to a customer service executive, she said she would come back but never did. Also, I mentioned about the unclean dishes to another representative, he simply gave me a spoon replaced and hardly cared about it. There was hardly anyone to notice that water needs to be refilled. They are least concerned about the customer service which is extremely disappointing. I would not recommend this place considering my experience.

Aahar is actually much positive review eatery. We went there due to the feedbacks from friends. But it was not worth for a 45 minutes drive from Bellevue. Couple of reasons : 1) Heavily over priced. 2) Mutton dish highlighted as local dish was not good. 3) Chicken fry in another restaurant was 4$ less than here but was tasting better. 4) Fish was good but didnt had enough Masala. 5) Since we ordered for 65$ which turned out to be dry dish, we asked some gravy but was turned down. 6) Was eager to get 15% tips. Good: 1) Kerala Parrotta 2) Mango puliserry, a kerala dish. Recommended based on inputs. We didnt try

Called at 9pm got there in 15 min...had to wait for abt an hour but it was informed during call itself. Got table exact in 60 min. Ordered while waiting. Food was really awesome - ghee dosa, missibaat, paneer makhani beet halwa...all fantastic...they were very polite and hospitality was fantastic...they served fast (Ordered additional stuff at 10.30-10.45pm and it was served without any issue and we were given ample time to finish dinner w/o showing any rush or pushing us to be quick...we stepped out at 11pm...satisfied and happy :) No doubt this is the best place to eat Indian food in eastside...

They open at 5:30pm and not 5pm. Had a bad experience waiting for a half hour at their door. Even the placard at their door says 5pm, so this was on the whole quite puzzling. Would not recommend their "thair vada". Wasnt soaked well, and it definitely seemed like it was made from a fresh medhu vada (being warm). Red/tomato chutney was good. But their coconut chutney was too runny. Sambar was ok. Idlis and dosas are reasonable. On the whole, it did not live up to the standards they were at when they were new. Going with three stars for now, but will visit them again in few months to be sure.

Were had quite a bit of northern Indian food, but the southern cuisine at Aahaar was new to us. They started us out with a cup of super-spicy tomato herb soup, and we got the lunch special - a platter with several cups of various things, plus chapatthi for dipping or making hand rolls with the other items. We also had fish pakora, which was incredibly tender, and came with two sauces - a creamy spicy one, and a cold mint-based one that provided delicious counterpoints. Every single thing was delicious, the service was quick and friendly, and overall it was just a lovely lunch.

It seems they are using the ready-made things to prepare some of the foods (like fast food) which is not good for health at all, as they need to change the things to handmade ones like south Indian style spices tradition pertaining to their originality as advertised, I could easily identify by the smell and taste, only limited menu and most of the items are not available as mentioned in the menu; food taste is very normal. Very expensive, it looks like their rates are very higher than the good restaurants food rate and quantity is very less for the money.

The food is only average.. unlike described by multiple other reviews. The wait time after you place an order is ridiculous. The service is unreliable unprofessional inconsistent and horrible. I had to place two of my orders twice because the server had forgotten them. I ended up waiting close to 45 minutes without food because the service could not manage to place my order correctly. They have a complimentary soup, I suppose, but I wouldnt know coz I never got it, courtesy of disorganized service. Trust me this food isnt worth the hardships...

We are vegetarian from North India. Hence desired north Indian meal. We found this place. All stuff are good except ,chapati and prantah both are so bad I can,t explain. It will be better they discard these two items from their menu and stop to serve its. One suggestion to aahaar please serve chapati or prantah made by pure wheat flour instead of fine flour or rice flour and properly baked. Overall aahaar is good place for Indian food.you may choose this place if you can bear chapati and prantah of this place.

If I could give six stars I would. In 15 yrs in the US, Ive never known another indian restaurant that delivers such amazing taste so consistently. Their customer service is equally good - a rarity for indian restaurants in general. Perhaps the best thing about aahaar is the unique South Indian menu. As a vegetarian I can only comment on the veggie dishes and they are all amazing. We drive 40 mins to get here from seattle and its totally worth the drive. Make sure u get in early or u will invariably wait.
