I have read a couple of reviews before visiting New Grand Buffet, and most were negative with regards to the food and the environment. I decided to eat here because of a matter of convenience at one point, and I was pretty satisfied with my overall experience. As I walked in the door, there was somebody to greet me and took me to my table. I was sat down and a few seconds later, a waiter came up and took my order for a drink, and said I could go up and start getting food. The selection wasnt that great, but there was enough to keep me interested. I have to agree with previous reviews regarding the food, as it could be of better quality. The place is also quite dark, so you need to strain your eyes a little to be able to see the corners of your little plate of food. The biggest issue I experienced was the ventilation in this huge place. You would think they have proper ventilation and air circulating to keep the place cool and breathable, but the air is always warm, muggy, and it hampers your ability to enjoy the food. However, the price of $8.99 a person ($9.99 on weekends) is quite reasonable, and my experience wasnt too bad. If I am in the area and looking for a bite, I will come back for more.

I shouldve listened to my gut feelings...literally. Upon walking into the New Grand Buffet, I was greeted with a stench that smelled not the least bit like good food. The employee who greeted my entrance did not not greet me at all but instead brushed my presence away to return to her phone, I was finally seated when I asked to be. I was convinced...if the service and atmosphere was so terrible, the food must be darn good. I once again lied to myself, my dogs food tastes better. The food must have been sitting out for hours before I got to it, and it indeed tasted just the same. Im sure if it was even fresh and warm food to begin with, it would still taste bad. The seafood tasted as if it was pulled out of the most stagnant part of the East River, it was not clean and you could taste the dirty salt water. To sum things up, none of my statements are the least bit exaggerated nor do I have a personal vendetta against this business. However, I did pay $15 for food that shouldnt be fed to anyone!

Lets start off saying Im not a big fan of buffets, because usually the quality of food is sub par. I saw the previous reviews, but decided to try this place out anyway. Did I regret it? No, because now I know never to eat there again! The New Grand Buffet had a fairly decent selection, but it was mostly fish and sushi... which Im not fond of. The food quality wasnt top notch, but that is to be expected at a buffet. It all tasted alright and the little desserts they had were some of the BEST I have ever eaten at any buffet. The waitress staff did rush us out like others had mentioned, but I just ignored them since it was not a busy night and I couldnt care less. The thing is... I left feeling like perhaps the other reviews were a bit harsh despite the rude service and the outdated decor. Overall it wasnt a horrible experience. That is until the next day.... BE WARNED!! I have a strong stomach, but this place made me and my boyfriend SICK!

The Chinese All-You-Can-Eat buffet is a dying breed in the areas immediately surrounding midtown Manhattan. As gentrification sweeps through Astoria, LIC and Sunnyside, many of these old-school establishments have gone the way of the dinosaur. But New Grand endures. It still serves a more modest middle-class neighborhood and its located among a huge shopping complex, so that helps I guess. The food is always good. Ive never had an issue, which is more than I can say for other buffets that were less than clean. The only reason Im deducting one star is because the decor is a bit dated and the lighting is a bit dark. The place has a huge narrow interior with windows only on one small side, so it can feel a bit gloomy and cave-like.

If you like a lot of Chinese food that is, well, cheap Chinese food, youll like this place. I was a bit disappointed, however, in that the servers seemed as if they werent extremely happy to be there, and not as personable as I would have liked. This is typical with a lot of Chinese buffets, but it really is a downer. They would rather just do "their job," if you know what I mean. If they were more smiley and welcoming, I would probably have a lot more stars up there, honestly. The food is just what you would expect, not gonna lie. It isnt absolutely horrible, but it is cheap, and it doesnt do a lot of good for your stomach :)

This was a good place back in the day but now theyre just plain sloppy with the worst management. I visited (with my mom and 8yo brother) and you know little kids holy grail food are chicken nuggets and french fries. There the were nuggets cold and stale and anything else a kid could opt for was soggy. After telling management they still charged for my brother because they considered him eating either way. All other "adult food" was a mess, spilling onto the counters. Its no wonder they dont have a restaurant letter grade, its a disaster in there.

I must admit, the place was crowded, which intrigued me and suggested that the food was good. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I have a personal rule to only eat cooked food and no seafood at buffets, so I cannot comment on that, but the food I did have was only okay. The teriyaki chicken and boneless ribs were standouts, but everything else does not deserve mention. This would usually lead to a 3 star rating, but the staffs lack of hospitality has brought the score down even more. Additionally, the price was a little high for the experience.
