I would give it 2 and a half stars, not 3. I was literally in line at KFC when my gf told me about a new fried chicken place by us. I got out of line and went there. Its a nice location, big windows, small restaurant. The owner/manager (who I thought was the owner/manager) was on a laptop and the phone rang and he yelled "Phone?!" And a kid from behind the line quickly gave it to him. The staff wasnt very friendly (esp for being a new restaurant) the chick who took my order was alright but I felt hurried and rushed. I ordered a lot of food expecting to love it and have leftovers to eat later. Well, I was surprised when I saw they use frozen fries from a bag instead of cutting their own. The chicken wasnt that good. I ate 2 pieces and am gonna leave the rest out for someone to take or throw away. My gf got sick. At first she blamed the "awful food" but then she said she was stressed and that is probably what did it. I will comment on the greenbeans though -awesome! They were really good and seasoned really well. I wish I would have just ordered them. The mash potatoes were okay. Not awesome but not bad. Okay. The chicken was disappointing considering its a fried chicken place. For what it was I feel it was a little expensive. I paid $35 bucks for half a chicken, a small chicken tenders w/ a side of mash potatoes (2nd side for my girlfriend) greenbeans. The chicken wings werent that good either. They were small. I ordered the plain w/ sauce on the side. Like I said, it was okay but not as good as it should have been for the money it cost. There is a KFC and a Kennedy fried chicken by me. I never go to Kennedy because its horrible, kfc like once or twice a year. This place was disappointing. They should step up their game to have quality food. Until someone tells me otherwise Ill skip going there. Hopefully they change up and do better.

I waited til my third visit to give this review. The first time was still the "soft" opening, so I gave them a pass on the service mishaps and the so-so quality. Figure everything needs to get ironed out, so thats ok- its a new business. The second time, it was somewhat busy and fully open, but it took me FORTY FIVE minutes to get a two piece chicken with sides. I finally get it, and the quality still hasnt improved. Tonight, I decide to give it one last shot- food came at a reasonable time, but it was still bad. The batter on the fried chicken was absurdly bland, the fried chicken was unevenly cooked (moist in some sections, completely overdone in others). Thats your signature product- and its awful. There was barely any spice whatsoever in that fried chicken batter. I would have settled for a little salt in there even. The fries were average and properly cooked. The green beans were tasty, but so many of them still had the stems on and were improperly cut. Thats seriously cooking 101 stuff. Look, I wanted this place to be good. I really did. Im loving that my block finally has this and some other food choices on this strip. I want to support local business. But I cant. The product is mediocre at best and the service is just short of a complete disaster. Sorry guys, I cant get behind this place at all.

Whoever wants to work at roast homestyle chicken, keep in mind that although it says $11.00 an hour, if your going to do deliveries be aware that Omir who is the hiring manager will not tell you that youll actually be paid $7.50 an hour and theyll use your tips to equal $11.00 which in my opinion is highway robbery because tips should be extra thats why its called a tip. Theyll even try to take your cash tips alleging that it has to be reported which is a lie. My first cash tip was taken from me and I never saw a dime of $60.00 in tips that I made. The second time Omir attempted to take my cash tip I told him he wasnt getting my cash tip and he did nothing about it which wouldve been emidiate grounds for termination. The fact that I wasnt terminated told me that what he was doing was wrong. I had to quit the job.

Closed more than they have been open - its really been a guessing game trying to check this place out. Hours on the door dont even align with when they are open. Cant rate the food, well, because I cant seem to pick the magic combination of if/when they are open. Will revise if I successfully eat here. Update 11/18: still a "soft opening" with two more failed attempts to eat here during posted hours on website and door. Over it. Update 4/29/17: waited 10 minutes on hold to place pickup order - call was never answered so again we went elsewhere. Still not open Friday evenings late or Saturday - aka prime time for NYC food. Hopeful somebody else fills this restaurant spot on Lex

Have been waiting to try this place for a while and was finally in the neighborhood so I came in for a spicy chicken sandwich. I was warmly greeted by Moshe who gave me the grand tour and told me of their best sellers (recommended the chicken salad which I will likely try next time); the whole staff were delightful and food arrived quickly. I also went with the suggested house blueberry lemonade which was a surprisingly good drink. I enjoyed the creative meal and the very hip ambiance. The food seems very unique for the kosher consumer and was clearly popular with the locals. Will be coming back again soon to try more choices from the diverse menu.

Took the family to the Roast on Sunday 8/27/2017. The service was pleasant and quick. The food was very tasty. In addition when my youngest knocked over her glass and it broke the staff was very calm and cool about it, cleaned it up with no issue and assured my child who felt bad about the incident that is was nothing to worry about. I recommend highly the 10 piece fried chicken that comes with 3 sides. Great deal. We also had the the Southwest and Italian salads that were both very tasty. I recommend this establishment without any reservation.

Love the fried chicken and the sides are delicious, fresh, filling, and healthy! The green beans are perfectly cooked and the side salad with vinaigrette dressing is always on my order ticket. Chef Averi is so nice and hospitable and made sure to say hello and good bye. The decor is very nice with a hip, yet homey feel; a nice mix of modern and classic. This is defiantly one of my new go to spots.

I absolutely LOVE roast I am a frequent customer since they opened last year and I am a big fan of their Fried Chicken with the Vegetable Medley and Mashed Potatoes on the side. When I try to be healthy, I order the Italian Salad which is really large and filling. I also tried to have Roast Catering for an office lunch party and all my staff were very pleased with the food and presentation.

Also wanted to wait until the third visit to review. While the food is pretty good, the service needs to be improved. If its not an unusually long wait or forgotten order, its missing items in my order or a broken printer for receipts (was not attended to until about 2 mins of just standing there waiting). Hope this improves; otherwise, this may have been my last visit.
