After sitting vacant for awhile, and being an unremarkable Hallmark card/gift store prior, 708 3rd has its new resident... a chain store selling unremarkable food. Since I havent been to this chain however, it was new to me. So I figured Id give it a try. The place goes for a very open marketplace vibe, which is cool, if not a bit confusing. The people at the counter were helpful though. And despite it being opening day, they were able to quickly navigate the line of people. They didnt have chips when I asked. The person at the counter suggested a pastry, but I guess I wanted something savory to go with my sandwich. I got the Roast Beef with Parmasean and Pesto Baguette. Sounded pretty good. And while I guess I was expecting it, $7.95 ($8.66 with tax) seemed high for a sandwich. If what a quick sandwich for lunch is based on is Subway, with their $5 footlong deal, the food here had better be good to make up for the fact that you get less for more money. And it wasnt. The Baguette was kind of difficult to chew through most of it, and extra crispy at the ends. I think this place is supposed hang their hat on their bread, but if so, they have some work to do. The middle of the sandwich was also lacking. The amount of roast beef was pretty minimal. Pesto too. All I could taste was the parmasean and crappy bread. Disappointing.

BEWARE!!! As a former employee Ive debated on if I should expose this establishment; however I wouldnt want to eat somewhere that doesnt practice ethics.. THE MANAGER, Fabian, has taken food out the garbage many times and served it to customers. None of the servers uses gloves when touching the customers food on a ready to table plate. Pastries that should be thrown away after 2 days are kept for any time between 5 days - 2 weeks and then once it is molded is sampled out and given to customers for free. Ive worked in the kitchen and witness cooks prepare food on dirty dishes, servers and managers sticking their dirty hands in the food in the deep freezers to sneak little snacks, customers getting dirty dishes at the table with last nights food still on it. The MANAGERS AND EMPLOYEES simply laugh and make jokes and the hazardous and nasty conditions kept from the customer. DEAD flies drop on the pastries which are never covered during the day, mice are found under the fridges near the front end and all is kept hush hush. If you value what goes into your stomach avoid this Le Pain Quotidian!!!

Found this lovely european style cafe on 2nd ave between 49th and 50th street. Its apparently a chain, but Ive never been to one. The atmosphere is nice, quaint, clasical music in the backround. Our water was polite. I got the quinoa and spent scone; a special. It was amazing! Coffee was very good also, especially if you like it strong. I would highly recomend this place for a casual breakfast, other menu items looked good also.

We had the breakfast basket with eggs, and sides of cheese and ham and we were very pleased. The bread and croissants were tasty and so was the eggs, and everything else for that matter. The thing that struck me most though was that the coffee actually tasted something and it tasted good! The breakfast we had was extensive and we were full long before we finished it. Well worth a visit for breakfast/brunch.

$40 for breakfast for 2 and mine sucked. My daughter thankfully enjoyed her overpriced French Toast but my food was horrible. Who puts greasy pesto on top of eggs? Goat cheese omelette supposedly with mushrooms, all 3 tiny bits of them. Bread eh, stale. Salad eh. Nice staff but... Le Pretension Quotidian. Never again.

I am baffled as to why this place has had any bad reviews. My experience was quite the opposite. The service was impeccable, food was melt in your mouth delicious and even the manager, Ben, was quite attentive to a special request that we had. Thanks again, RTR, for such a beautiful ending to an amazing vacation!!!!

Excellent place for a sandwich or cup of coffee. Friendly staff, good service and my personal favorite is the large community table reminds me of Paris sense of sharing space. The clientele is international warm and friendly. A very good choice to take a break from the ho-hum of Starbucks. The bakery is great also.

Always great service and staff no matter which location. Love the decor and atmosphere; very relaxed and cozy. Food varies a wee bit from location to location, but i kinda like that. Some items feel very over priced, like $3 for ONE "organic" egg, which is a bit much. Overall, its good food, but a bit pricey.

Disappointing compared to some of the others in this chain. I agree that this one is not managed well. Service is inconsistent, atmosphere is lacking, very noisy hard surfaces, even food preparation is inconsistent.

Five stars for the consistency of food - just like any other Le Pain Quotidien in nyc. Yet the service here was horrible. Waitress was rude, no one attended our table of 5, and when I ordered a soup I was yelled at.

Le Pain Quotidien is a nice Belgian-French cafe chain. I had a latte and a smoked salmon omelette. There was plenty of salmon and the omelette itself was large and tasty. Service was friendly and efficient.

Food is standard chain fare but service is poor. Had to call the waitress 3x for the bill and when we paid and was given the wrong change, we gave up and left.

Rustic, warm interior, lighting and non-intrusive classical background music create a great ambience. Perfect for breakfast or lunch with a good friend.

Good is great, service is terrible. Tables are dirty, the staff doesnt think to clean the table for new customers and its just dirty overall.

My go to place for meeting people for a light lunch or for coffee. Delicious home made food and pastries always make my day better.

We had a nice family lunch there a few months ago. We liked the food and the service although it could be a bit faster

Everything we ordered was pre-made by the waitress herself. Way too overpriced for what you get. Not recommended

Youll love this place if you appreciate European breakfast. But they do cater to the American crowd as well.
