I rarely complain about restaurants but my experience was infuriating. I went to Barking Dog on a Sunday morning; there were very few customers there. The restaurant was over half empty. While I waited at the hostess stand, another party arrived. They very rudely cut me in line to be seated. Then afterwards, the hostess returned to the computer and completely ignored me while I waited with my dog, clearly needing to be seated. I called to him and asked whether I could seat myself, he looked over at me, ignored me, and proceeded to take two phone calls while I stood becoming agitated. When he finally decided to acknowledge my existence, I asked to be seated in the front seating area where there were not currently any other dogs. He ignored me, gestured to a seat directly beside another dog, and said want to sit here?" and then before I could object, walked off. Wanting to not make a scene, I sat down. I then waited nearly ten minutes at the table, while the waitress for my section took the orders of another party (who had arrived seconds before I had initially), brought a check to another table, and then actually took the orders of third party. All while I sat without so much as a menu or a glass of water. I want to reiterate that this restaurant was not busy and they were not understaffed; there were several other employees standing around, and the restaurant was less than half full. When she finally came over, I was so furious that I said to her that I did not need a menu, and would be leaving. I explained that I had waited several minutes at the hostess stand without any acknowledgment, AND waited at the table for several minutes without receiving so much as a menu. She smirked at me, did not so much as apologize for my experience, and told me have a nice day before walking off. I probably would not have written the review had the waitress not been so smug, or had she at least apologized. I understand that, because I was a party of one, they were not going to make much money off me. But I dont feel that justifies being treated like I literally did not exist. Rest assured, the next time I am dining with a large group, I will not be taking my business here.

After seeing the Barking Dog on a list of the best dog friendly restaurants, we decided to try the brunch with our four legged friend. After seeing how packed the outside part was, we knew it had to be good. We were also no where near the only people with a furry friend as the patio was crawling with fidos. The manager did a great job of expediting tables, moving around chairs and making new tables, and we were quickly seated. We ordered the pitcher of red sangria as we perused the brunch menu. It is largely regular American brunch faire, from pancakes to steak and eggs. Our sangria was very good, nice and sweet and refreshing on a warm spring day. The chunks of apples and orange in it were also a nice touch. I chose the steak and eggs while my wife had the Barking Dog special, 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, and hash browns. My steak was actually excellently cooked to perfection. The fries it came with were also incredible, Im not sure if it was the oil or the potatoes, but something about them really stood out. The eggs were also good, and went well with the steak as expected. The biscuits both came with were good but dry, though the eggs helped with that. My wifes eggs and hashbrowns were good, but not outstanding, she described them as "average brunch food". The bacon was pretty good though (I may have stolen some when she wasnt looking). Our little Hershey wasnt left out while we ate as our waiter brought him water and a milk bone right after our food came. He also made some friends at the next table while we were distracted with the food. Service was excellent. We were seated very quickly though the place was packed and our waiter, though covering all the outside tables, was constantly checking on us and our dog. He was super friendly and even chatted with us about our dog. I can see why several of the other patrons with dogs told us how much they loved the place and that they were regulars. The prices were also fantastic for the locale. We really liked the barking dog and Hershey loved it. I think well be back soon.

I used to love Barking Dog for brunch on Sundays. Recently, its really gone downhill. The service is bad- the waitresses are forgetful and just ignore people. After reading the other reviews, it seems that this is a common problem. The food is decent- but again our waitress forgets something every time we go and then when our correct order arrives, all the other food is cold. They even asked us to leave after one hour because "people were waiting." We had barely finished eating! Really strange! Well they lost good customers and potential good customers with that attitude.Especially after reading the other reviews about the dirty atmosphere- i am definitely not going back -and will be warning others. Gross! .. and seriously what is the deal with the "cash only" policy!

Stopped by for 2 strawberry milkshakes with my fiancee yesterday, that came up to $13 & change. Very unprofessional towards us btw, we stopped by the cashier to order the milkshakes, & were approached by the owner & a few other employees multiple times, almost as if we werent welcomed. The owner continued to keep all eyes on us, and the milkshakes took almost 15 mins to get. When we finally received the milkshakes, we got 2 16 oz iced cups that didnt even amount to the price, time wasted & discomfort we received while waiting for the drinks. Never again. (My opinion: Ive drunken a better milkshake from Checkers at 1/2 the price for 1 here.)

The vegetable stack was delicious - they know how to cook vegetables right. The waiter was also friendly and the service was quick. I was not a fan of the mashed potatoes however. The good thing about them was that they were real potatoes, but it seemed as if they were just peeled, mashed a little with a fork, and then placed in a bowl and served. The gravy was not that good either. Update: came back for lunch because its near my job. Ordered the chicken and biscuits meal. Mediocre at best. The staff is very friendly however, but would move it down to a 2.5 star rating based on the food. Overall: ok

We had brunch on a Sunday afternoon at barking dog and we were very pleased with the food and service. I followed the recommendation of our service and went for the salmon fillet sandwich which came on focaccia and a side of coleslaw and fries. The salmon was very juicy and the dill sauce made the sandwich. The menu is fun and has a lot of variety. While they do not offer bottomless brunch, there are options to get pitchers for $25-35. Comparing it to other brunch places, it is definitely affordable and the food is filling and tasty. Id recommend it to anyone who is in the UES.

The owners are crooked. They keep dirty cats that walk all over the tables at night and arent wiped in the morning and have an terrible bug problem. The owners are degrading, offer no type of job security whatsoever and have withheld pay from theyre employees. I have worked at restaurants for many years an I can truly say this is the worst place ever, to dine or work. Take note I am specifying the 94th Street location, the two others are under different ownership. Do not give these people your money, please.
