After returning from a trip to Spain I had a hankering for tapas like none other. Eating toasted bread and cheese just wasnt cutting it anymore, so I went online and tried to find a place near Ames serving tapas or something similar. Thats when I discovered Bar La Tosca. Before this Id never heard of the place, nor seen it all the times Id been on Main Street. But I gathered my fellow Spanish adventurers and we headed right there to order one of every "small plate" on the menu. Every single one was delicious. I dont think I could pick a favorite if I tried. It was the closest thing to tapas Ive had since being to Spain. Even if you havent been to Spain to experience tapas in their homeland, you can get an authentic experience at Bar La Tosca. If you have a large group, grab a bunch of small plates and pass them around!

The ciopponi soup tastes like the seafood was just brought into the restaurant from the local sea, the rigatoni was the best pasta dish Ive ever had with beef that crumpled in my mouth like a biscuit crumples away after a first bite, and their Pseudo Sue Pale Ale is the best Citrus ale Ive had. 5 out of 5, would recommend to friends, if I had any.

This place is alright. The service was great, the atmosphere was nice, but they are NOT kidding with the small plates...everything on the menu is a pretty small portion. The food was a little overpriced for Ames cost of living. And it wasnt anything that would blow you away. This is decent place if youre looking for something fancy around Ames.

Fairly recently opened and the owner has fined tuned everything from the amazing food with a talented chef to the selection of wine and beer. The coffee is top shelf and better than most places I go to. The location on Main St is great and the building is remodeled inside and out. Go dine if you havent already.

Came in and got the pork burger with fries. Service was alright. The fries were really weird and tasted bad. Pork burger was a decent idea but it had nothing on it. Very dry. I was told Monday is small dish day night. I might return to check it out. Overall disappointed from the hype.

I had lunch there yesterday. I had the rigatoni and it was good. The side "salad" that came with it was tasteless. The toilet in the mens bathroom had mold in it. The server was not terribly attentitive but it was busy and he was the only one there.

Cozy and very cool atmosphere. Nice bar. Great martini. Interesting menu with Italian/ continental dishes. going back again this week. A keeper. No wonder Ames Iowa came in number two nationally in cool - spas, cafes, and good restaurants! LOL

Appetizer was salmon toast, blended ricotta and smoked salmon. Spread was thick and overwhelming . Sauce was oddly sweet. Had Rigatoni and Penne with pork. Maybe just not our cup of tea.

Bar La Tosca is a warm and friendly bar/restaurant that features food from local farmers when possible. I especially love the beet salad with grilled chicken - yum!
