We arrived, were seating promptly, and had our order taken (rather rudely). I ordered a crab cake sandwich with chips, and my friend ordered a steak and cheese sub with fries; nothing too fancy, right? Our food arrived almost an hour later. By that time, my friend had to ask for a to-go box when the waitress brought our food because she had to leave. Our waitress was rude. Upon paying, we were instructed to go to the register. We did, and, since my friend was in a hurry (and there were several workers standing around behind the register), she politely asked the woman behind the register if she could go ahead and pay the bill because she was in a hurry. The woman then proceeded to put her finger up in my friends face and answer the telephone, and instead of asking the person if they could hold, she turned her back to my friend and began talking to the person on the telephone. The food we ordered was good, but nothing spectacular. I had heard good things about this place, but a lot of those "good things" had "...but the staff arent the nicest," added at the end. We will not be going back, and will be letting others know of our experience.

My wife, my son, and I ate there in the middle of the afternoon and sat outside. Their outdoor area is very nice... The menu had a ton of selections.. Mostly salads and sandwiches.. but the choices were excellent. Beer menu was a bit limited, but had a few good options... I guess I have been getting spoiled with places that have 30+ options. Food came quickly, but there were only about 8-9 other tables... Our waitress was polite, but not very attentive, and that is being generous. Cashing out at the front Id say the cashier was acting as though shed worked the busiest 14 hour shift at a New York restaurant... but it was WV, and it was 5:00pm... Grouchy, worn out, borderline rude... but at least I only had to associate with her for a few seconds.. Overall though, Id say it was pretty good.. Id go back a few more times for the food and the atmosphere. If the service remained the same everytime, Id go somewhere else. Everyone has a bad/off day... I wouldnt knock them off completely for that.

I have never had a server who openly had contempt for me for no apparent reason, but then again, I had never been to the Blue Moon. The food came promptly since there was only one other group in the place. However, our server had open contempt for us for no apparent reason. After we ordered our food, she never spoke to us. We were well behaved and courteous, but it turned into a ridiculous scene. She ignored very polite requests and slammed our food down on the table in silence. Then she tried to stiff us on our change. Needless to say, we didnt tip. It was pretty obvious that she wouldnt be getting a tip, but she decided to follow us out of the restaurant down the street yelling at us to never come back. Fortunately for her, I wont be. And neither should anyone else that is chancing through the area. Perhaps it was an off day for her, or she was coming down off of something, but it was one of the most bizarre, comical eating episodes I have ever experienced.

Okay where to start, we walked in we were told there would be a little wait for a table, that was fine, understandable. 15 minutes later we walk outside to the outside area to wait, two tables opened up but they seat two men who walked in behind us and proceeded to take their drink order first before even clearing one of the tables for us to sit at. When I asked the waiter to clear the table for us. ( he started to clear the table stuck in the hole not the one in the center with the noce view.) He was rude and thanked me for telling him how to do his job. Then the little girl inside was rude when I tried to talk to her about the situation. What would have been the proper answer would have been an apology and wanting to correct this oversight. I guess they dont want older people there. Or the owner wants to loose money. We went to Domestic instead. Real nice people and great food.

I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant in life. My boyfriend and I were on vacation and decided to try this place for dinner. When we got there we were told there was a 15 minute wait. No big deal. We actually got seated before that time was up. In fact, we waited almost the original wait time for a server to even come near us. She greated and took the order of a party of 4 that sat down way after us. Then a couple was sat behind us and was greated almost immediately. I told her, "Maam we were here first and have been waiting for 10 minutes for anyone to even come over." She said, "Ill be with you in a minute." She seemed so disinterested. My boyfriend and I left immediately. It was a shame because the food looked good and everyone else was having a great time.

We have been regulars at Blue Moon for over 5 years now. It was the first restaurant we ate at upon moving to Shepherdstown. The food is usually excellent and the atmosphere is great. The menu has a wide variety of options which please the whole family. The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the service can really be hit or miss. We love most of the staff, but there are times when the service can be absolutely abysmal. This is especially the case during peak dining hours. I wholeheartedly recommend Blue Moon, but if it appears busy when you walk through the front door or you are in a hurry, you should turn tail and find another place to eat.

OK food, nice patio area, but you are in trouble if they are busy. Wait staff is brusque, kitchen backs up so that an hour wait is not uncommon. Ive been told by a harried hostess that itd be at least a 45 minute wait, and there were open tables! They go from "mellow" to "dont care" in a heartbeat. The issue is that they are not set up for the amount of business they often attract. Everybody loves the hippie atmosphere, but while hippies are fun, they are not good at professional execution. Go to Blue Moon when things are slow, plan for plenty of time, ignore your "too-busy" server, and have another beer.

We had a party of 4 with mixed reviews on the food. First, for the excellence -- service! Friendly, fast, very responsive and kept us supplied even though it was a very busy Saturday night. Food that received positive comments - meatloaf, Tuscan bean bruschetta, Oriental Salad -- all fresh ingredients, and they tasted very good. The disappointments - the crab cakes were mostly filler and not very good, a dessert cupcake was stale. The other desserts were incredible ... Black Forest torte, Pina Colada torte and raspberry ice cream. Portions were very generous and overall it was a good experience.

The Blue Moon Cafe is an amazing little find in Shepherdstown. The crew sources from local farmers for most of their items and the quality is ALWAYS top notch. The customer service is also amazing. I took a friend there for a meal and he tried a local beer he had never tried. After 2 sips, he sent it back because he didnt like it. When his check came, the first beer was not on it! He asked the server about it, and she said "No. Were not charging you for something you didnt drink." The service, food, and affordability at Blue Moon will not disappoint.
