We went the other night for a friends birthday. We arrived at 6pm and there wasnt very many people there yet. The service started out great we were greeted by the server and promptly placed our drink orders. When the drinks arrived the birthday boy was a bit off put by the old fashion. She had muddled the fruit into the drink and added way to much soda water. Soon after the rest of our party joined us and we order or meals. 35 min after our offer was taken the server came out to let two people in our group know that they were out of the lamb they had ordered. (You would think this would have been immediately noticed when the order was put in. Lamb takes longer to cook than anything else that was ordered. ) so we choose other items to eat. About 15 min later or food arrived. The very expensive steaks came out cold and over cooked and expensive crab came out mushy (overcooked) the two dishes that were ordered at the end were nice and hot. Leading me to believe the rest of the did sat under a heat lamp while the last two dishes were made. For this much money that is not acceptable. The steak was sent back and the rest of the food eaten and cleared. You would think that a manager would have come over due to food being sent back but no manager came over. We were given dessert menus and as the server asked us if we wanted coffee tea or dessert we all said no. This would normally be when your brought your checks. We waited and waited and waited but our server disappeared. We asked another girl if she could get our server to bring our checks. So we waited some more. Finally 30min later or server comes out with a dessert with candles but no check. By this time we are just ready to go. So we ask her to please bring the checks. It takes her 15 min to go get our checks except she only brings one. So I ask her to please split it into three. She comes back 10 min later with another server and the other server explains that their policy is not to split checks. She can do it for us this time but it will be a while before she can have it done. What has the server been doing all that time after we asked for split checks? We have now spent 45min to an hour waiting to pay and leave!! And the check never got split up I had to split everything myself at the table from the one printed out check. When I asked about the service and the time elapsed where she had gone she told me it wasnt her fault. But yes maam you are the server you are in charge of how your tables are run. We had an almost 400$ tab and over 2.5 hours at this restaurant. I will not be going back. Food is mediocre and serves is excuses and long periods of waiting. We never did get to see or talk to a manager even after we asked for one. Dont go here!! The view is the only wonderful thing.

Initial thoughts were positive upon receiving the truly stunning views of the water and hostess personable attitude. An immediate disappointment upon seating was that the table was completely bare of napkins or cloths however the silverware was placed directly on the table. Quite unsanitary it seems. "But oh well" I thought as I wipe my own silverware with still high hopes for an outstanding evening at the establishment. Sadly, we were greeted in such an unenthusiastic manner by the waiter who seemed completely unconcerned of his appearance as he as he wore a stained apron and shirt and sagging pants. I joked "Did they just send wait staff to our table?" This seemed so out of place considering the perception I had of the supposed highscale restaurant. Still we proceeded to order the tenderloin tips as an appetizer which were nice. I had the starter wedge salad- I had a better wedge at applebees- minimal toppings. My partner ordered a cocktail which was delicious. I ordered a glass of the red blend, which never came. After 20 mins i informed the waiter that I would rather have just a refill of water and to just forget the red. He was apologetic, which was appreciated. Time for the entree. He had the spinach and chicken canneloni, which was nice (and hot). I had the Chicken Parmesan served cold which was reminiscent of a dish by Stouffers- the flavor of each portion of the meal was shockingly bland, the filet appeared to be mostly breading. What I experienced was especially unsettling as the dish was $24. It could have at least been hot I thought. So the check comes (as if it were earned) and the waiter comes back 4 times to check the checkbook within 15 minutes to see if we have provided our payment. Interestingly, you cant remember to bring the wine that you intend to charge me for but you definitely can remember to check if weve given you your money. What a way to make your guests feel welcome. This is a great restaurant if you want to sip water and enjoy the view.

The Cliff house has had its share of growing pains, it goes through new management every few months and for a while the food is good, and then it becomes lackluster. This last Saturday (5-23-15) the food was very good, but the experience was not. We arrived at 6:40, we had 4 adults and 2 children. We could have sat in the restaurant upstairs, but since we really just wanted some appetizers, we chose to sit downstairs way in the back and out of the way. I remember commenting that we had got there just in time to avoid the $10 cover for the music. We had a total of 9 appetizers, and 3 alcoholic beverages. I was shocked when the bill came to almost $200. When we got home, I noticed that the waitress had put the $10 cover for each of us on the bill, without saying a word. For the extra $60 we could have easily sat in the restaurant and ordered entrees, and if she would have mentioned it before we ordered, we would have. We were also charged for each soda that the kids had, even the refills. Shame on you Cliff House….really…..

Had dinner at Cliff House for the first time in awhile. Poor meal. Ordered Prime Rib Med. Rare, got medium. When complained was told the chef said that was the rarest on the roast. Strange indeed, we ordered at about 6 PM, not many other diners before us. Apparently the chef doesnt know how to do Prime Rib. After that the server offered us the "special", a rib eye steak instead. We took it. When it arrived, it wasnt fully seared, lots of fat, much more than would be expected, I guess it was medium rare, but hard to tell in the light. Are about a 3rd of it and took a part home. Worse meal Ive had anywhere for awhile. They didnt even offer a discount for our trouble. Let a tip for the server, she did a good job, however, whoever cooked the meal(s) shouldnt be called a chef. Wouldnt be back unless the quality changes. this restaurant has been up and down with there food prep for several years. Just when you think its improved and you try them again, you are disappointed. Really too bad, great location and view, but thats it.
