Its a very hard to find in Seattle a place where old Seattle still survives and especially rare to find a place where the old and new meet in unpretentious comfort. Salmon Bay Cafe hits the spot. This is still a hidden secret where Ballard insiders mingle side-by-side with blue collar fisherman. A place where the staff and owner are going to know you after just a few meals. It is soooo comfortable. I love to sink into a booth, a hot cuppa coffee and and talk for hours over a big, rambling breakfast. The food portions are made for hungry, working people; generous, lots of sides, and delicious. The muffins (raspberry coconut last time I was there) are better than any hip spot in Seattle. The burgers are fantastic and filing. If you like a breakfast lunch place that is all about heart and good food, you will love Salmon Bay.

Newly remodeled and under new management, the food is 300% better. I had an eggs benedict with home fries, a cinnamon roll and coffee — a delicious breakfast with great service. I cant afford calories like this on most mornings, but it was certainly worth the trip to Ballard. I heard theyll be opening for dinner as well by the end of March and that theyve also applied for a beer and wine license. Theyll get more of my business. I was also able to use Apple Pay which is more secure than plastic. Come on, other retailers! Get with the plan.

Im pretty easy to please and I wasnt looking for a 5 star establishment. I was looking for a hardy, local, diner kind of breakfast... The biscuits tasted horrible and were so hard I to saw at them with a knife. The hash browns were the frozen patty kind. I didnt even finish my meal and that is a rare thing... Service was fine. A week later... I gave the cafe another try and wasnt disappointed this time. I ordered something different (no biscuits or hash browns). Changing my rating from one star to three.

I love this place. We just discovered this cafe less than two months ago and we have been there about five times already! On the weekend, they have this blueberry muffin with coconut flakes (I do not think they have it on Mon-Fridays). They are so soft and full of flavor. The portion of the food is generous, the food tastes great and the staff is very friendly. You cannot find a place like this easily in Seattle. I usually order fruits with my food - they are fresh.

This is a cafe that is a nice reminder of Ballards former character. Its an old school cafe with a gritty charm. The food is basic diner fare, and my omelet was only so so. I will say that many of the dishes I saw crossing the dining room made it clear I chose poorly. The waffles and French toast both looked especially good, an Ill go back to try those.

Had a great weekday brunch experience. Hearty portions of classic diner fare with a good variety of egg dishes and other breakfast foods. I didnt even make it to the lunch portion of the menu. As opposed to some of the brunch places in Ballard where its "yeah were popular, eat your food and get out" Salmon Bay Cafe was much more enjoyable.

Ordered an omelette with home fries. The eggs were a giant overcooked lump with the described "ingredients" lazily tossed on them. (Plus inexplicably large chunks of tomatoe I didnt order). Home fries were little more than severely undercooked potatoe chunks. Wont be returning.

Love the ambiance of this place. Standard breakfast fare but always consistently good quality. Like most breakfast joints, it can be quite busy on weekends and parking is difficult when the Ballard market is underway.

nicely updated and refreshed interior with the new owners. Good portions, friendly service and just the kind of food you want in a diner type breakfast or lunch. Great to have this in our neighborhood!

Hidden gem. Awesome omelets recommend the Fremont and ad green onions. So rediculously good! And their muffins are great to. Owner works their and cares about service. I eat their almost every weekend.

Used to be a great place, warm, cozy atmosphere, crispy home fries. Now its cold, sterile feeling and the home fries are mushy. Wont be back any time soon.

The food here used to be alot better, but it is still not bad. The staff are nice, the food is warm. The vibe there is like a Alaskan cafe.

Great breakfast place, reasonable prices and a big menu. One of the larger breakfast menus in Ballard, the food has always been good there.

A little out of the way on location, good food. I enjoy late breakfast fare and they have it in abundance.

Eww. Tastes like the food came straight out of a cisco truck and into the microwave. Go somewhere else.
