I walked in with a left over box of mod pizza that I was going to be taking home with me and sat down in the center of the cafe. Immediately one of the women working there said "hey we dont do that here." A bit shocked, I said "oh I will be getting some coffee in a little bit". She responded with a rude smirk, notioning that she wasnt happy. So, because the whole cafe was now looking at me because of the way she initiated the conversion, I felt awkward and out of place, so I left. Coming back with a friend to study, I calmly mentioned that I wish she would have come over to me personally and told me about there no other food policy and I would have gladly finished the single piece of pizza left in the box outside the cafe and then came back in. She then responded "we treat everyone the same." So if you ever go in there with other food on you, expect to be called out by the staff in front of everyone in a rude and extremely direct way. I will never mention this cafe to anyone else or be bringing my business here ever again. I was treated terribly from the moment I walked in the door. If the business owner is reading this review, think about how you treat customers. Maybe instead of reacting aggressively, take into consideration what other people have to say rationally and calmly, then address the situation in an appropriate manner...

The atmosphere is wonderful, the crowd affable, but the people who work there are just unkind. I have been going to Allegros for over a decade. I do not know where they hire from, but the service tends to suggest that the people there are doing you an incredible favor by virtue of handing over the coffee you just ordered. Today, I asked one of the baristas a question: when do they close. He looked at me and walked away without an answer. He never gave the answer. This is consistent with the past service and attitude, though more overt. As a customer at Allegros I often feel like I have intruded on a baristas clique in which I am certainly not welcome. Usually I am prepared for this. Today, I just did not expect the degree of insult and it felt really bad. While there are a multitude of positives to this place, I do not think I will return.

At first glance, my impression was similar to most of the positive reviews: "Its a hidden gem!", "Theyre the best coffee!", "Its top notch!". Admittedly, their coffee is probably the best in the U District. But as a frequent user of coffee shops in the neighborhood, I began avoiding Cafe Allegro. Its always packed on weekends! The staff also seem tired and apathetic toward their patrons (I probably would be too if I had so many). But worst of all, the space is not properly ventilated. It gets very stuffy where there are so many people, especially the back room, with no windows. Conclusion: Nice for a passing visit, not so nice as a regular study joint.

Deceptively large coffee shop which touts its reputation as the oldest in Seattle. Spacious upstairs seating provides a pleasant atmosphere to utilize the free WiFi while sipping on well-crafted espresso. Shots are smooth, sweet, and complex - very light body compared to most espresso. Cappuccinos are made properly, pastries are generally good but not outstanding; overall very par for the price. Service felt forced-friendly and customer interaction is kept to a minimum, almost to the point of being ignored. Worth putting up with for the drink quality, however would recommend other cafes in the area instead.

Outside youll notice a decrepit bench next to the ivy-soaked brick wall, but this only masks the glory which is the cafe allegro! A great café due to the staff, delicious drinks and treats, the comfortable yet enlightening ambiance, always smooth music and great artistic works mounted on the wall. The place is clean and comfortable. There are multiple rooms to this coffee house, and even an upstairs level for you to enjoy the morning dew at dawn with your coffee!

Good coffee, but a few of the baristas are rude and pretentious. Its one of those unique and alternative Seattle places I went to because someone told me I should check it out, but Ive been treated like an idiot and like Im unwelcome the few times Ive gone in. You work in customer service, for Gods sake, at least pretend like you can tolerate the customer. Ill take mediocre coffee at Starbucks any day if it means a less surly barista.

Cute little place with outdoor seating. Indoor is too loud but still not a bad option if its rains or something.I got the avocado toast with smoked salmon. I didnt really get a lot of smoked salmon considering the cost of the toast. $15? I believe Not too salty, the right amount of avocado spread and so at least it taste the way I like it.If youre in the area this is a nice place to just chill and relax with some healthy food options.

I love these ever since an old friend made them for us, but I find it hard to find in the stores. Naturally, I had to try this place. I was not disappointed. Tried a sweet and a savory trumpet...the maple cream butter and the ham and english cheese. Both were great. Only issue is to check the days theyre open. Make sure theyre open the day youre down there.

This is a clean, quiet coffee shop full of people studying. It feels like the kind of place a writer who was academically respected, but not very popular would say they got their best work done there. Its kind of hidden in an alley, so it requires some effort to find. They have good coffee and a nice selection of large cookies as well as other pastries.

Its been 2 years that I have lived in Deattle and this remains as my favorite local café. Beautiful, rich brick interior with large windows and plenty of natural light. The coffee is perfect and the service is geniune. Try the Italian soda! There is a quiet room upstairs and a small terrace. Need I say more? Look for it nested the alley.

Their staff are a real mixed bag here. The people who work here range from pleasant and cordial to downright hostile. Shame really, its otherwise a great place. I could probably come back, they make some good drinks and he ambiance is nice, but theyre overpriced and sometimes rude so Im not 100% sure. Also they have no plugs

From the a-frame sign on the street, I was expecting Cafe Allergo to be a tiny little hole in the wall coffee place. Its a gorgeous medium-sized cafe with lots of seating and even their own t-shirts. their espresso is good (not amazing) and their pastries range standard. A place I recommend but only if youre in the area.

Came out of our way to come to Seattles oldest coffee shop only to have someone roll their eyes at us and be a overall jerk. The coffee wasnt even that great. Wouldnt recommend this place unless they get friendlier baristas. A waste of time and money that could have been better spent elsewhere while visiting the city.

This place seemed pretty cool. You have to go through an alley to get there, and the rustic feel was quite inviting. But the staffs interpersonal skills ranged from below average to downright offensive. I was planning on telling my friends about this place. Now the last Ill ever speak of it is to review it here.
