Ok having just lived in Japan for the last 2 years. I know sushi or as well as one American could presumably "know sushi". The fact that the man working the sushi bar is actually Japanese makes a HUGE difference to me and well it should to you as well. Everything was fresh and made up to par with Japanese standards. I will agree with the review below about the inconspicuous location of this great restaurant. I wouldnt gave this place the time of day had I not heard that it was run by actual Japanese. But then again in Japan with every thing stacked on top of each other this place would fit right in with its wheres waldo like camouflage. As far as the staff goes again in keeping with Japanese tradition, Soft spoken and polite. The atmosphere is also traditional (minus the low floor sitting tables) keeping up with the idea of simplicity. I highly recommend trying this place out. I will defiantly become a regular at this place. I leave you on this note. To all the people who say sushi is expensive. Sushi is like a tattoo, the good stuff isnt cheap and rightfully so.

My husband and I eat here every week (sometimes multiple times) and weve NEVER been let down. I still cant believe that this little gem is located in a strip-mall on the Mukilteo Speedway! Sakumas is a traditional Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, so dont come here for that americanized fusion sushi where everything is deep-fried and covered in some exotic aioli (aka Mayo) and a sugar sauce used to cover up the fact that the fish isnt sushi grade. Come here for the fish! Sakuma only serves the best. Period. If the fish isnt perfect its off the menu. There are delicacies here like Ankimo (monkfish liver) that I wouldnt order anywhere else. The food from the kitchen is also awesome. The atmosphere is clean, casual, and comfortable.

My job requires me to escort Japanese Consultants for a local company and this is the most requested restaurant by the consultants because it is the most authentic to what they are used to in Japan. The owner, staff and cooks are all Japanese and is the most authentic in the area. The service is great, the food even better! The quality of the food is outstanding. It is not a fast food restaurant so if you’re in a hurry you may be disappointed and it does get a bit crowded for lunch. Great place!

An intimate restaurant with an open bar in the back where you can watch the chefs prepare sushi. The food is authentic enough that Boeing often brings All Nippon Airlines and JAL visitors to this spot west of Paine Field. Especially good are the tempura and udon dishes (and you can get a tempura-udon combination too). Very reasonably priced for lunch. But make sure that you have directions because the location just off the Mukilteo Speedway can be a bit hard to find.

Very impressed with food/service. A bit pricy but what good sushi isnt? The tea/salad/soup that came complimentary with the sushy were all great. So was the sushi ofcourse. They were very attentive. NOTE: If youre going there for lunch call ahead so that they have the food ready. It does take about 20 mins to get your order so If youve got a 30 min lunch then I would suggest calling 15 mins before you head out. They have menus you can take with you.

My husband and I have been to Sakuma many times and always it is wonderful. We lived in Japan for 6 months so we have some idea of what Japanese food "should" taste like and this very authentic. The people who work there are actually Japanese and many of the costumers are too so if you want to try delicious, real Japanese food - this is the place! We love it!

The service is good, and the quality of sushi is decent, but this place is definitely overpriced, mostly because the portion sizes are so small. Also, the nigiri section of the menu has the prices listed in Japanese, which was confusing. A dinner for two could easily run $60-80 bucks, and you might still be hungry when you leave.

Ive been going to Sakuma for 15 years and it never disappoints. The fish is always fresh and generously served, and the service is attentive and conscientious. Even though its not a fancy location, its well worth the visit if youre as addicted to good sushi as I am.

We have been going to Sakumas for 15 years. Best sushi around. Great atmosphere. Try the tempura, they are famous for it. Yosenabe is wonderful. Staff is friendly and helpful. This is where we go out to eat.

At a few rolls and some of their signature items and I left satisfied. Their tea was great and they werent over bearing with the service. Its a great little place if youre in the north end.

Good food, but not great. I eat here about every other week for lunch, so its good enough. Biggest complaint is the price. Given the alternatives in Mukilteo, some may say its great?

The teriyaki chicken tasted like it was boiled not grilled. The sauce was was ok I guess. Expensive prices. Rather go to one of those small in and out places.

Best Japanese restaurant in the area. Sushi is excellent, tempura is light and crispy, udon is authentic. You know its good when all the patrons are Japanese!

Small in seating capacity but big in cuisine. The all Japanese staff would make you believe you are in Tokyo.
