8-13-14 REVISED: I am bumping up Bonnie Blue another star since my last visit a couple days ago. I went in around 10:30am and was surprised to see that they are serving breakfast items! My bf and i got a country ham stuffed croissant and a cinnamon pecan croissant roll. It was super good! I have been back to Bonnie Blue since my initial visit to order desserts which are fantastic. OLD REVIEW 4/15/14 Love the atmosphere and the small hometown market feel. I am more of a person who likes to take my food home so it is not a big deal that there really isnt much room to sit. In that sense the choices of decorations and offerings was exciting. It is such a unique little place. Now onto the food. Overall I would say the food is good for Winchester/Northern VA which is not a huge foodie place. I had the fried catfish, mac n cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, and a couple bites of a raspberry almond bar. My friend that I was with had the same thing except for the fried oysters. So first, the food needs to be seasoned more. Catfish, oysters in that fried batter is really good but needs a kick to it. That is more of a personal choice and the russian dressing sauce did provide an extra dimension of flavor. The mac n cheese was decent and I feel that it is homecooked. However could i make a better mac with cream cheese, sour cream, and breadcrumbs. YES i could. The coleslaw was good but typical. My boyfriend makes an amazing red cabbage/apple coleslaw that is to die for. My friend said the potato salad could have been seasoned a bit more. The cornbread was pretty good. It had a slight sweetness to it and for the most part was moist. Now the Desserts.....OMG! if you dont order anything else the desserts are so worth it. This is the one thing Bonnie Blue blows the competition away with. And will probably be my bakery of choice in the future. All in All. Bonnie Blue suffers from underseasoning and a slight lack of creativity when coming to the food. You may think I am being harsh, but I live and breathe with foodies. My boyfriend and I demand quality and the ultimate dance with our taste buds. More than likely I will return to Bonnie Blue if my boyfriend doesnt feel like cooking and it is a long hectic day. Skip the food, head straight to the desserts.

This place used to be much better. First the positives. There is an excellent catfish here that will make you want to come back. Their Dixie Pig, a big baked potato with BBQ in it, is also pretty good. Also, the side salad has a couple pieces of fresh chunk bacon on it. Now the drawbacks. The bar-b-cue has gone downhill a little bit. If I was just strictly looking for bbq, I would probably go somewhere else now. This is a shame, because I really loved it there. The sides change at such a regular basis that the staff does not know what it is from day to day. There is a good bread selection but avoid the biscuits. In my opinion, they are so dense and heavy that they are almost to the degree of being a weapon. Finally, the deserts. This place used to have THE BEST DESERTS IN TOWN. Now, they have gone so far down hill that we went to Dunkin Donuts for a lemon doughnut as a desert. Today there were 3 bars in there that I avoid because the bar base that they make is disgusting and some cookies. I wish the pies would come back. There used to be a great coconut cream pie and a pretty good carrot cake. To end on a positive note, there is a good coffee place inside there and if you are looking for some microbrewery beer, theres some of that too. For me however, I think Im going to pass on here for a bit.

We stopped for the first time today after smelling the smoker for quite a while. We were warmly greeted and given a tour of the kitchen and newly opened dining room. We purchased the family meal and chose the options of Texas style brisket and pulled pork, fried local apples, macaroni and a mix of corn muffins, Pullman toast, and biscuits. The pork had a beautiful smoke ring and was juicy and so full of flavor, the brisket was the same with a lovely char on both. The barbecue sauce that came with it was a delicious, vinegar based sauce with just the right amount of sweet and heat. The macaroni and cheese was a great with a lot of flavor and the pasta was the perfect texture. The fried apples were wonderfully seasoned, perfectly textured and the best part, not overly sweet. The biscuits and corn muffins were fluffy and delicious. We also ended up purchasing a loaf of the farm house slicing bread that was like your grandma used to make and a coconut cake that was moist and delicious! Thanks Bonnie Blue!

We went to the Shenedoah National Forest and on the way we wanted some BBQ. We stopped in here and were immediately greeted by an amazing staff in the coolest place. Great produce outside, all locally grown. Locally crafted beers. And the BBQ! Some of the best weve ever had. The brisket was perfect, great crust and still moist and juicy. Slow cooked, pulled pork and some fantastic sausage. The collards, wow! You banned to try the beans and the cornbread. Everything there is wonderful. Get there before lunch if you want brisket because they sell out early, its that good. Some really killer cole slaw. The owner liked us and gave my son a giant, homemade cookie. Outside the were really great produce. Eggplants, apples, berries, all of it! All fresh, all local and all really inexpensive. We had such a lovely, lovely lunch here and look forward to going back in the future. I shared this review with Trip Advisor as well.

We ordered food to go about an hour before closing on a Saturday night. For me that is not a good excuse for bad food but my husband insisted that it was. I had the crab cake, Cole slaw and mac n cheese. The crab cake was the worst crab cake Ive ever tasted. It had zero flavor, not even a crab flavor. It tasted like mayo, salt and pepper, thats it! The Cole slaw had entirely too much vinegar and the Mac n cheese was extremely dry. The cornbread that came with the meal was very dry as well. My husband enjoyed his meal of pulled pork. Maybe they should stick to what they know and leave the seafood alone. And if the excuse they use is because it was close to closing time then they are doing something very wrong. I will give them one more shot mid day and see if there is a difference.

This was the first time eating here. I will never eat there again. The service was horrible and the food. My daughter got the special fried chicken thigh and wing with French fries and gravy, the chicken was raw. On another meal the corn bread we had to wait 2 mins so the server said because it was in the oven. When we got it it was cold . I asked if we had to wait for it to come out of there refrigerator because of how cold it was and she couldnt answer the question. She said she didnt know what running out of the chicken or why it was raw and pink looking because the cooks "checked" the chicken and it was fine. There was always someone going around checking on everyone, not one person came to check if everything was ok. This is by far the worse place Ive ever ate it..
