My husband and I recently moved to the area and were hoping to find a great Mexican restaurant. My husband and I were seated next to the kitchen. I wasnt too pleased about that since they were not busy. Having come from working in a restaurant, you only seat guests next to the kitchen when you are at max capacity. That was nothing major, just a minor annoyance since half of the seating was unoccupied. My husband ordered a frozen margarita that came out more liquid than frozen. The waiter said the machine was not working properly. We were not too happy about that but left it; We know better than to complain. You just dont go back to give them your business. Also, the drink was very, very weak. We ordered a side of cheese sauce (3.99) with out meal which came out in a small monkey dish (approx 4 oz). We were expecting a larger bowel for 3.99. The cheese sauce tasted OK, but again, just like the margarita, it was very runny. At this point, we made up our mind not to come back. I guess we have been spoiled by Plaza Azteca in Virginia Beach . The rest of the meal was good though. Unfortunately, we will not be going back.

Ive been here a few times and I can say without a doubt they have the best happy hour specials on margaritas and draft beers. They offer Blue Moon and Yuengling on draft, along with a variety of Mexican beers and the normal American favorites as well. The margaritas are great and the sangria is probably the best Ive had in the Hampton Roads area, but do take note that there is not discount on it during happy hour. There is lots of seating inside and outside on the patio, so even if its busy Ive never had to wait more than ten minutes. The staff is super polite and attentive. There are a couple of waiters there that I always enjoy to have who are great conversationalists and very good at what they do! The food always tastes fresh and the prices are right in line with your average Mexican styled restaurant. However, I will say they do have the best rice and beans in the area. I dont know if its the seasoning or preparation, but I definitely prefer them over any other place weve been in the area. I can also vouch for the Tamales and Enchiladas! All-in-all a great place and I would recommend you give it a try!

I came here specifically because La Parilla had great reviews, but I dont see what all the fuss is about. The food was fine, and there wasnt anything majorly wrong, but a few little things started to add up: It was very cramped. We had an infant with us, and they had ran out of high chairs, so I had to put the carrier on the chair next to me and basically hold it the whole time. I asked later if one might have become available, but still no. The servers were running everywhere with arms-loads of plates. Im all for speedy service, but this just seemed dangerous. This made the atmosphere seem very hectic and not relaxed at all. I feel like I had to eat my food as fast as possible and get out. The server took my credit card without first showing me the bill - I had to specifically ask for it. I thought that was a little weird. We usually go to Plaza Azteca, and I think we will be sticking with them.

Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. I started off with a medium beer (which would probably be a large at most places), and ordered some carne asada tacos. Complimentary chips and salsa came out, chips were good but the salsa was fairly watery and didnt have much flavor beyond tomato. Tacos arrived, had a decent Pico Dr Gallo but the meat was quite salty. Tacos were also fairly greasy to the point where I ate the third with a fork. Beans were also salty and very runny. All in all, from all the positive reviews Ive seen maybe the tacos arent the thing to order. Overall Id say its a lackluster place but will fill your stomach with large portions, cheap drinks and decent service, but if youre looking for good Mexican food you might want to try somewhere else.

La Parilla is certainly one of the best local mexican restaurants that weve experienced lately in the Western Branch area! Great food, full size portions that are served hot, because of their fast service. The chicken tortilla soup has so much flavor for being a clear broth base that you really do need to eat the avocado chunks that are in it. The food quality overall compares to that of Pappasitos located in Texas and Georgia.

No Bueno. Overpriced food for a small portion with bland taste. The chips served were not fresh and tasted awful. The queso blanco was processed. The only thing they did right was the Iced tea. Their alcohol prices are way above what they should be for the amount of liquor you actually get. Heres to my $30 meal that would have been better spent at Taco Bell. Not authentic Mexican food.

This is THE PLACE TO GO for AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD. Customer service was better than any restaurant I have been to in southern Virginia and the prices are great. I am from the southwest/Southern AZ, this is like going home for me. I know my mexican food, and this place is on point. Everyone is super nice and friendly, I will definitely be a returning customer.

This place is garbage and their customer service is terrible... Dont believe the reviews because no one in hampton roads knows how real Mexican food should be... Ordered food that was terrible and when my wife spoke to our server (in Spanish as well) he laughed in our face... Dont get food from these clowns... Wish i could give no stars...

If there is a rush, plan on being forgotten. The meat was poor quality and could have been compared to boiled hamburger. Coming from CA, we have been looking for "good" mexican and this place was a huge disappointment. You are better off eating at Taco Bell. At least youll know and get what you expect there.

Been here a few times and enjoyed everything. The prices are reasonable and waiters and waitresses are very polite. I like the Chips l, the white and Salsa sauce they are very good. Theres also an outdoor sitting area which is absolutely fantastic during summer time. It can be very busy on important days.

Really affordable, really good, great service. I came in shortly before closing (I left at about 1105), but still had great service throughout and zero attitude from the servers for coming in close to closing. I was overall impressed in the level of customer service, great price, and really good food.

I love this restaurant. The staff is very friendly. The food is quick! Consistent quality everytime we visit. Good family atmosphere... Plenty of seating and they can also accommodate large parties if you give then a heads up. Small bar with high top tables. Outdoor seating for when the weather is nice.

Service was good. Drinks were very weak. Order was wrong and I was questioned about the order being wrong. I ordered my food with no onions and when it came with onions I was questioned about being allergic to onions. I should have received an apology not questioned.

Really good Mexican food! I liked the Carne Asada in particular. I have lived in San Antonio, TX and Sacramento, CA and it is just as good as some of my favorite places in both of those cities. I am sure you can find places better but the food is very decent here.
