Hours: improved recently, open later. Still, why cant anything in SW VA stay open until midnight? Location: good, decent parking Layout/decor: much improved, more space, better seating -- best of all: plenty of outlets/places to plug-in WiFi: good, reliable Coffee: for people who like hipster blends with overwhelming pungent flavoring, great. For people who like more familiar coffee flavors, not good. It would help to carry coffee flavors for the snobs and for the common folk who dont need or want the snooty blends. Condiments: plentiful, clean area, well-maintained. No shaker of nutmeg? What will the other baristas in the area say about you!? Pastries: limited selection, the scone I had was far too sweet and poorly mixed -- it was like eating a sugary paper towel with clumps of berry parts. Other food: not much to speak of, and I miss the snack portions of pimiento cheese with crackers. Customer service: improved For kids/families: plenty of room to play and roam inside and out. Accessible/Disability accommodations: difficult entrance, not wheelchair accessible -- but room to maneuver inside.

Ill just be clear at the start of this review that my rating is solely based on the service, not the coffee. Ive heard the coffee is quite good. But the shop is downright terrible. A group of friends and I went in when the shop was nearly empty. From the second we walked in, we were rudely harassed for standing near the door and then, when we went to sit down, the owner/cashier said "I mean, Im poor over here." in a whiney tone, even though around half of the people in our group HAD went and bought food/coffee. Felt completely uncomfortable the whole time we were there and couldnt wait to leave. Her attitude prevented me and others from buying drinks, even though we had planned on it originally. Ive never before experienced a shop owner being so unprofessional. Theres no reason this place should stay in business when there are other coffee shops in the area that are much friendlier, more accommodating, and offer coffee thats just as good.

Ive been to Cups several times in the past few weeks to work remotely and enjoy the coffee shop atmosphere. To be completely transparent, I have typically spent about 6 or 7 hours working there and always have bought multiple items while there (espresso drink, cookie, etc.). The owner walked in today, headed straight to my table and informed me I should buy more if I was going to be there all day. I told her I always bought food and drinks when I was there and at the time, there was an empty plate on my table of a cookie I consumed. She said "Well I have to pay my rent too" and gave me "the look". I definitely felt unwelcome and wont go there again. The thing that I found most hurtful was there were plenty of other folks I saw every day doing the same as me, but nothing has ever been said to them and wasnt today either... Too bad.

Three visits and three disappointments. The most recent visit was disgusting. Two men working the counter "served" me, only after I watched one of them sneeze, blow his nose, and continue touching his nose without washing his hands. Then, subsequently, these two engaged in a conversation about how "dumb and narrow minded vegans are." An earlier visit pitted me against a lady running the register who was just plain rude. She was neither helpful nor courteous, not polite, and unwilling to do anything other than sling some coffee my way. I truly felt like I was inconveniencing her. And my visit before that yielded a coffee-to-go that was cold and full of grounds, which I didnt realize until I had already motored away. This place sucks. Im not going back.

While the product they sell here is good, and the atmosphere is very comfortable, I have to give it one star due to the service I received. I went to catch up with an old friend who recommended this place and I choose to sit for a few mins and talk with her while I decided on what I wanted to get since Im not a big coffee person. About three mins after I arrived, my friend had ordered before I showed up, the owner asked if she could get me anything. I told her I was still deciding but would be ordering shortly. She then told me in a very nasty voice "If theres a butt in a seat, there needs to be a drink in front of it. I cant make money off people just sitting" I understand, but how externally rude. I will never be going back.

Youre best off going somewhere where theyll treat you with respect. The owner of this shop is just rude. Plain rude. Shell kick you out unless you buy a new drink every so often, even if the store is empty. This means that if you want to do some work, youd better have your wallet ready. The employees act fine and are courteous, but if that owner is in the shop, your almost guaranteed to have an unpleasant time.

Cups is awesome! They serve Red Rooster coffee and espresso drinks which has become a favorite of mine since coming down to Roanoke. Also, they use a semi-manual machine so the shots are typically great. The space is specially great for two things: getting work done (Wi-Fi and usually lots of open seating) or getting together with friends.

Not normally one to leave low ratting but Ive been here three times now and havent ever been pleased with any of my orders. The coffee tastes like its been sitting around for hours and one latte tasted like it was made with old milk. Staff is inattentive and often absent. Disappointed that its not better as I love the Grandin area.

Good coffee and service. It gets there stars for how it changed since it was sold. It used to be comfy, eclectic, and definitely local. It is still nice, but now it is more typically "modern." I will still come here, just less because it lost its comforting charm.

Use to be a great coffee shop, I drink decaf on 3 occasions coffee grounds at the bottom and water down taste, when the teenagers are on staff their friends are hanging over the counter. I go to the co-op, sweet donkey or mill mountain get my coffee now

I almost always get the chai latte, which is delicious, and I like the snacks they have available as well. I know one barista by name, and he is hilarious. I like coming here to get a little work done on my computer and get a quick caffeine fix.

I drink a lot of sugar free lattes. The ones I get at Cups are the best Ive had in Roanoke. And anybody whos hung up about naming sizes of the servings after bra sizes needs to get a life. I think its pretty cute. --Eduardo

Good coffee and tea. Small locally owned shop with as nice little trading area up front. Friendly staff and easy to ask questions. No attitude like certain corporate coffee shops.

Nice cozy little place to sit back, relax and enjoy a hot beverage. Wide variety of coffees to choose from plus a selection of teas. Bring your favorite book.

New management, new review. Honestly, the selection has been halved. It has lost the individuality I loved. I miss the attitude.

Nice, quiet coffee shop in the Grandin area. Staff was nice, my order was good, but not a very exceptional experience overall.

Nice, quiet atmosphere. Comfy and good for people watching or studying. Decent coffee, okay chai tea - a little watered down.
