We ventured to this restaurant because it was convenient...and everyone in our party enjoys Italian food. The decor was attractive, the staff nice. We were immediately approached by a kind woman who said "welcome, this is my place!". But the food was probably one of the worse meals we have ever had. The first red flag was when the bread came out "shiney". They resembled store bought cresent rolls you buy in a can at your local grocery store, but then glazed with butter? Oil?. We ordered 5 different entrees, ranging from something off the special list (Rockfish) to 4 other standard Italian dishes (Eggplant, spagetti, scallops). The Rockfish was drowning in sauce in pieces and laying on top of overdone, most likely previously frozen vegetables. The spagetti sauce had to have been out of a jar...and bland, bland, bland! The vegetarian lasagna was in a white sauce and simply tasted "sour" (this was the oddest dish on our table). The scallops were still half frozen, and the size of nickels ($22!!!) I could go on and on...it was truly awful. There was nothing fresh or even slightly homemade about any of the food. We were incredibly dissappointed, and honestly floored that a restaurant that serves food such as this actually exists. Save your money (entrees average $15 and up) and your time---DO NOT EAT HERE.

My husband and I were planning on going to the new movie theater when we decided to try and grab something to eat prior. We saw Palermos and wanted to try something new. We were a little hesitant because we are from New York and we have never found Italian food like the kind you can get in Little Italy. We were greeted by a wonderful staff and we immediately felt extremely comfortable. The waiter was marvelous and knew the menu perfectly. My husband and I ordered Bruschetta as an appetizer and it was MARVELOUS!!! We have not had such authentic Bruschetta since NY. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and my husband ordered the Filet Mignon with Mozzarella and both were cooked perfectly and had such amazing flavor!! The salad did have a different type of dressing that I wasnt thrilled about but it was decent. Also with your side pasta it comes with a red sauce but you can order other sauces to top it such as a home made pesto, meat sauce or Alfredo sauce. After our meal we were too full and satisfied to go see our movie so we called it a night and came home to crawl into bed with very full and happy tummies!!! I would recommend this to EVERYONE!!!

Ive been going here since they opened, followed Gus and Marianna from Angelos. They have created a wonderful dinning experience by offering specials that are well worth the money. If you want true Italian food and a great dining expierence then this is the place to go. The service is excellent,if you are willing to pay the price the specials are great. Ive been coming here since they opened and never had the same thing twice. If you want a pizza joint go to Angelos if you want a dinning experience with a wonderful atmosphere and a wait staff that remembers you when you come back this is the place. People judge with one visit, try two everyone has an off day, but I say this, with at least 50 times Ive been there I have never been disappointed. I travel 40000 miles a year and eat at alot of resturants, I am always glad to come home and go to my favorite resturant and feel like family and enjoy a home cooked meal. Gabriella, Christiana, Marianna,Gus, and all the wait staff are some of the best I have ever encountered. I would rate this resturant as one of the best in Richmond. Take your time and enjoy what they have to offer.

As a Culinary Institute Graduate, Certified Chef and New York born and raised Italian (on both sides), all I have to say about Palermo is: "THATs ITALIAN"! The quality of the products they are using is outstanding and the finished dishes show their skill in executing true Italian Cuisine. For example, every other restaurant around that has Tiramisu on their menu uses the same FROZEN Tiramisu that US Foodservice, PFG and Sysco Foods carries. Palermo makes TRUE Tiramisu, fresh and from scratch! Most of the so called "Italian" restaurants in our area are actually owned and operated by Mexicans or Salvadorians. They do know a Tortilla from a Tortellini let alone how to make "sauce". Our latino friends dont have a clue. Is it Cilantro or is it Flat Leaf Italian Parsley (looks similar, but there is a world of difference in the flavor)? In short, when you want Mexican Food, go to a Mexican Restaurant. But when you want TRUE Italian Cuisine, go to Palermo (the one in Midlothian, VA, not Sicily)!

This was the worst experience in a very long time. Arrived appx 7:45 for dinner, nit many people there. Our waiter Nick was great, drinks great, salads good, then it went down hill. One of the main entres was horrible. Nick apologized ans offered us something else, when we declined he offered to take it off the bill. We thanked him thinking that was it. The female manager/owner came over asked what was wrong. We explained that the fish had a bad taste and she explained thats how it came and sbe wouls not take it off the bill. We said we are regulars her and normally am very happy but not tonight. She said " well I can nit take it off your bill because it is so expressive (fyi: it was $26). We said fine and let her know we would nor be back. She walks off. Its sad that an owner would not satisfy a customer and rather loose thier bussiness. Word of mouth carries a lot of wieght. If your planning to visit them you might think twice, we will not return!!!

A good restaurant should be consistent. Out of the six meals we had, 2 were good, 3 were okay and 1 was terrible. My biggest problem was with the Chicken Cacciatore. The Chicken was over-cooked to the point of being rock hard, and the vegetables were extremely under-cooked. As well, the chicken was deep fried and not pan sauteed like most traditional Italian recipes. Also, they are clearly trying to charge a premium for food that just doesnt add up. Canned tomato sauce with no seasoning is not Marinara. "Homemade Pasta" - maybe for one or two dishes, but clearly not for the majority, especially the spaghetti. It was not a busy night, and while service was polite, it was dreadfully slow. However, the dining area is nicely lit and clean. BOTTOM LINE - there are far better places to eat Italian food in Richmond. Especially at the prices they are charging. You can have a far superior dining experience at a LTalia, Mama Zus, Carinis, and Angelos among others.

I constantly look for decent restaurants for date nights, and while other places have failed to please, I have always been more than pleased with my experiences at Palermos. Lately, Ive taken to sitting at the bar, which is actually quite small, but I find it comfortable, and the service is always attentive and pleasant. The food has always been great. My tastes lean towards European style food, having spent a lot of time overseas, and the tastes and presentation of Palermos steers towards that. The dishes are not washed out pre-prepared american style food, so if thats what youre expecting, you may prefer one of the local areas chain restaurants, but if you enjoy good, well prepared dishes with real flavors, this could be an excellent choice.
