Ive been coming to Rancho for many years and used to be a big fan. However, the last few visits to this restaurant have been less than desirable. We visited this past weekend to celebrate our birthday dinner. We were seated quickly and we both ordered our drinks (water with lime, one peach margarita) and waited about 10 minutes for those to come out, in addition to the chips with the famous white sauce and about two teaspoons of salsa. Waiter explained they didnt have any salsa made (really its 4:30 on a Saturday night at a Mexican restaurant, no salsa?) but as soon as the kitchen finished making it up, he would bring some right out. I will mention that I didnt receive a peach margarita, but rather a jumbo lime margarita that I didnt order. About 35 minutes later, our food finally arrived and was lukewarm and flavorless at best. Our server basically ignored us from here on out. We ended up finishing the chips and white sauce since the food was so terrible, and then the server had the nerve to bring us the salsa at the end of our meal (about one hour into arriving), seeing there were no chips left. I seriously wanted to smack it onto the floor. The meat portions of our dish tasted greasy and bland. Before I get judged on a harsh review, I know good service, and I spent years working in the food service industry. Im a diner who tries to be flexible if there are screw ups during my meal, and I try to give staff the benefit of the doubt, but to bring out salsa when we are done with our meal and the chips are long gone is just insulting. There were no apologies for screwing up my drink order even after I pointed out I was given the wrong flavor and wrong size. I could hear other diners asking for their salsa too while they were halfway through their meals. This place is a mess and I will never return. Its a shame because weve always loved Rancho and their service for many years. So long, crappy food and service.

This restaurant is an interesting mix of things. It is very clean, including the restrooms, and lovingly decorated. You know from the moment you step in that youre entering someones pride and livelihood, and not some here-today, gone-tomorrow place. That said, Ive eaten there several times and the food is "okay" bordering on mediocre. If you dont have high hopes, youll find it serviceable but not inspired. It was very cheap--a typical lunch meal is about $4.95--but sort of tasted that way. Also, there seems to be a divide between the male waiters and female waitresses: they are very different. The men dont seem to speak English, and were very disinterested, almost bored, in providing service. They dont tend to look customers in the eye, instead staring out the window at traffic while taking your order. The waitresses are much better, and are actually friendly. A word needs to be said about the lunchtime margaritas: they only cost $2.95 (as of this writing in July 2012) and theyre very good! In short: the pricing is great and the margaritas are great. The service depends totally on whether men or women are serving. And the food is mediocre.

I dont understand the funny reviews. Rancho Viejo Luray, is as close to perfection as any authentic mexican restaurant can be. The food is amazing, second to none, plus the service is top notch! Thanks Rancho Viejo, you are simply amazing! My Main dish was the Molcajete and for only $16.25 is a steal. Is a mortar stone volcano shaped bowl filled juicy medium well, sirloin steak, carnitas, charro beans, the thick molcajete salsa, yum! then the chorizo, tender nopales, juicy onions and fresh delicious mushrooms, all covered with cheese melted on top. They served it with fresh guacamole and flour tortillas. wooow, viva Mexico! 5 stars to you my friends. If Im in Luray, there no other option! And, If anybody need toilet paper or soap at the restroom, just ask. They still human!

My wife and I ate here last week while visitting the area. The food was fine, the service prompt and courteous, and the surroundings very clean. The prices were also pretty cheap (I had a combo platter featuring a burrito and a chile rellano for $7.95). Dont expect to be blown away by finely-prepared Mexican food, however, although the end result was acceptable especially given the cheap prices and the location in culinary-deprived Luray. If you are looking for a decent value in Luray, this is a solid bet though nothing exceptional.

This place was one of the worst tex mex restaraunts I have ever been to. We had a group of about 6. They seated us outside and forgot about us for about 30 min until one of us went and grabbed someone so we could order drinks. All orders took over 30 minutes to reach us (even appetizers). My drink went empty and i was never given a refill. The food, also not good. My dish was cold when i received it. The taste was not good either. I will not be going back here.

Food was not that good at all, I would suggest Taco Bell before this place. Also, I suggest the staff not talk trash or degrade people in front of other customers, not all "gringos" understand Spanish, but some do!!! I give it two stars because the waitress was nice to my husband and myself and the price wasnt that bad. No I will not eat there again.

This restaurant was a big disappointment. The service took forever, the food was lukewarm when we got it and lacked flavor. We had to ask for more chips and salsa. It was not very clean. The staff did not work as a team. My family left still hungry because the only thing they liked was the chips and salsa.

Food was hot and served as soon as possible. Chips and salsa before lunch made the time go by quickly while you wait on your meal. All the servers are extremely polite and try to meet all your needs. All in all the service and the food rank all stars. Will be back again soon.

This was a McDonalds at one point and they transformed it into a mexican resturant. They had good food at reasonable prices. The service was good but I wasnt sure how well our server knew English. He did not talk very much. It was a good experience overall.

You wouldnt expect to find this place in Luray, VA, but we did, and we werent disappointed. Its built into an old McDonalds, so dont expect the world of it, but if youre looking for a solid Mexican place you cant go wrong here: especially for the price.

In an area that is Mexican Food Deprived, this place stands far above the other few in the area. Decor is nice, service is excellent, food is the first good Mexican food Ive had since moving from Southern California three years ago. Highly Recommended.

I like this place and usually everything is great! I had dinner there recently and there were issues....however, the manager took 25% off the check and gave us replacement food to go! He made it right. I will go again... absolutely!
