Ive been here a couple of times, most recently I took my parents here for Fathers Day. Its a long-running, family-owned business. The inside is cheerfully decorated with gigantic flower arrangements; its like being inside a hotel or a very luxurious condominium. Their menu contains over 200 items and turns out some seriously good, authentic Vietnamese food. Of course, we ordered the cha gio, or crispy pork spring rolls served with fish sauce. YUM, SO GOOD. The inside is explosive with pork and veggies and the outside is deliciously crispy. I was very tempted to order more and now in fact regret not having done so or at least ordering the vermicelli noodle bowls that come with spring rolls (did not know this at the time!). I ordered the banh cuon thit nuong, or steamed rice crepe with grilled pork stuffed with mushrooms and ground pork. The rice crepes come with steamed bean sprouts, chopped mint, basil and peanuts. The rice crepes were very similar to a Cantonese rice noodle roll thats commonly served in dim sum. These rice crepes were very good and I pretty much devoured all of my rice crepes in one seating. My parents both got rice vermicelli noodles. These vermicelli noodles are served with bean sprouts, chopped mint, basil and peanuts as well. Each of us got large portions, but the price for each dish didnt exceed $10. Our entire dinner, including drinks (Vietnamese coffee, yum), totaled $40. What a steal! A lot of folks recommend the green papaya salad with shrimp and pork as well as any of the lettuce and rice paper wraps. I would steer clear of the Chinese-style dishes, which dont seem Chinese at all. They have family dinner specials for two, four, six, or ten people.

Went there for lunch today and was so disappointed especially since it was me who recommended this place to 2 other people in our party. Ordered the grilled shrimp over rice dish and there was hair in my sauce that came with my shrimp. Manager was very unprofessional and almost forced me to get a sauce of any kind or order another entree which I didnt want. How about saying, "I apologize and will address with my kitchen staff. Of course, your dish will be on the house." I wasnt paying for it as my friend was treating but sheesh. Instead, she was barking at me and basically screamed, "Ok, your dish half price,ok?". She was pretty angry barking this to me. I initially tried to not make a big deal of the hair issue but as a manager, I thoight she should know so that she can address it to her kitchen to wear hairnets or hats or whatever will prevent hair from falling into food. The manager which is one of the "Four Sisters" made a spectacle of the situation in her own restaurant when it was packed. I thought she could have been more professional with her service. Didnt enjoy my dish and neither did the other 2 people who both ordered the Pho with steak & hanger. All the dishes were very bland, lacked flavor and didnt seem authentic. Had been here before about 2 years ago and it was really good but I guess the chef changed. Seems like they are catering to the American palette as opposed to sticking with tasting authentic. What a pity! Wont be returning here.

After reading the positive review in Washingtonian Magazine, my wife and I decided to try Four Sisters this rainy Weds evening around 8:15. Our hopes were high upon entering the very inviting, nicely appointed, and clean restaurant. The restaurant had what seemed like a decent-sized crowd for a Weds evening, with about 3/4 of the tables occupied. We had our hearts set on steaming, fragrant bowls of beef pho with all the goodies. Once we read the pho section of the menu, we realized with great disappointment that they only serve pho with steak, flank, and/or meatballs--no tendon, tripe, or brisket! We go out for pho regularly to several pho shops in NoVa, and this is the first one weve encountered that does not have tendon, tripe, and brisket. So we reluctantly ordered pho with steak and some crispy spring rolls. I must say that the spring rolls were as good or better than any weve had around here. But after we finished our spring rolls, the waitress assured us twice that the pho was coming any moment, but after waiting for over 15 minutes, we threw twelve bucks on the table to cover the spring rolls and walked out. Normally, a bowl of pho is served within a few minutes of ordering. Although this place has a nice ambiance, freindly staff, and good crispy rolls, the absence of standard pho ingredients on the menu and the slow service we experienced means we wont be going back to Four Sisters anytime soon.

Came here for a weekday dinner. The food was okay, but not memorable. We ordered the meal for two. The crispy spring rolls were my wifes favorite of the night. Wrapped in lettuce and dipped in the fish sauce, it was tasty. The basil was a bit wilted or old, but didnt effect the flavor. The sweet and sour soup was sour but one dimensionally so - as if the flavor was from vinegar. Other than that, the soup had the expected shrimp, okra, bean sprouts, tomatoes, etc. The tofu vegetables had a thick corn starchy sauce that reminded me of Chinese food. The clay pot fish was good. We added on an order of quail with lime sauce. This was undone because of the heavy soy marinade infused into the meat that didnt taste very good with the lime and salt dip. The service was very prompt. It was not unfriendly, but so sudden and abrupt that it was almost surprising. For instance, they took away my plate that had the quail bones. But they did this without a single word. When my wife was eating the quail, the waiter came by and dropped off some wetnaps. Again, no smile, no acknowledgement, no words. Lastly, or perhaps firstly, with a five course meal (with a quail add on), we expected the dishes to come out one at a time... Nope, all the dishes came out within one minute. I could have sworn the waiter asked the bus boy so soon?...

I am not encouraged to return because the dining experience was not remarkable enough for me to do so. We had the dinner for two, however The Clay Pot Fish is not proportioned for two. At its best, it is one small fillet of catfish cut, diced and presented in a small clay pot equivalent to a small rice bowl. Meanwhile, the rice is in a medium to large serving bowl which should have been used for the main event (fish). The dinner for two is simply more rice, big bowl of flavored hot water with vegetables, sizable tofu plate, and one fillet of fish cut into small bite size pieces and summed up with a few pieces of bit size pieces of fruit that is typically complimentary at any Asian styled restaurant. Its a rip off and I told you I would write about it. The two stars is for a good Thai Tea and clean restroom. Although I was disappointed I gave more than an appropriate tip inspite of the not so great experience.

The service was very professional, although the person I was meeting there got pressured into sitting down without asking, nullifying the reservation I made for a quiet table (we ended up in the middle of the restaurant with people walking around us). The food was pretty delicious, although a little on the salty side for my tastes, but still very nice. Only negative sentiment I have is the price, it was not cheap. Two standard entrees and a small appetizer, and no drinks, came out to about $42, which seems about $10 too much for the quality of the food. But I suppose I was paying for the location, so there is that. Overall not too bad, I may make my way back there someday, although probably only for a nice meal out, not just a casual bite.
