After perusing the menu posted outside of The Nook, my girlfriend and I decided to give it a chance... We stood at the host stand for around 3 minutes, (It was a Friday night ["Fridays-After-Five" = (BUSY)] and having worked in the food service industry, that kind of wait-time is really unbelievable) and were quickly given a table for two. Our Server, James, promptly brought out our drinks, took our order and politely explained to us that, given the size of their kitchen and grill, our order of the "Bistro Mac-N-Cheese" and New York strip steak platter (mid-rare) (Both, relatively strenuous and time consuming sauté items) may very well take quite a while. I was actually quite surprised when our order came out much more quickly than initially expected! Given my serving experience, I expected a meal delivered so quickly to be veritably unenjoyable... However... Samantha (Sam) attested that it was -by far- the best and cheapest meal she had been able to find in downtown Charlottesville thus far and surprisingly, my steak was cooked to absolute PERFECTION! So, I dont know what kinds of "scumbags" you may have encountered, but at The Nook, we had an absolutely wonderful time! Enjoy!

We went for breakfast on a Sunday. The food was good, eggs correctly cooked, french toast very well prepared and not a burned pancake in sight (which BTW, you really should send back). My only complaint is that they were understaffed - I have worked in the restaurant industry for 7 years, but you do not have to be an expert to see it - when people are not getting seated because the host has not cleared the tables because he is trying to deliver food to the tables and running coffee, you need more people. In every case the service suffered; people did not get seated, food took longer to get delivered and coffee did not get refilled in a timely manner (20+ minutes). The food was good, but I will try somewhere else next time I am in town.

Atmosphere: The restaurant is quaint but clean which is a hard combination to find sometimes. Inside seats approximately 60 guests and there is additional seating outside where pets can join their owners. Service: The staff was warm, prompt, and extremely professional. Genuine servers can make or break and restaurant and this staff is top notch. Food: Everything we tried was well prepared, delicious, and had perfect proportions. The coffee isnt watered down like most diners and everything seemed to be priced appropriately. Summary: If I lived in the area, this would be my go to diner. If I come back through here again I will definitely stop and I recommend you do too!

The atmosphere has that old school diner vibe complete with old tile floors, barstools at the counter and old booth seating. Waiter was helpful and friendly, nothing exceptional. Restaurant, including the bathroom, were clean, also not exceptional. The fish and chips were a lil over cooked but the Mac and cheese bowl (the one with crab meat) was so good it made me forget that my food had been over-fried. Food seemed fairly priced for portions and taste. The big draw here, IMO, is actually the surrounding area- right outside is a really cool walking area with street performers and a few blocks of attractions. Ill definitely be back when were in the area!!

I have given this place a couple of chances to prove my first impression wrong, but I have been proven that it is correct three times. The service is awful. There is a waitress that smells like a wet dog and moth balls. Who wants to smell that while they are eating every time she walks by? The last time we were there, we were sat by the host, and sat at the table waiting for a server to come up and greet us. We waited about 10 minutes and that was enough waiting. We went to Melting Pot instead. Dont eat at The Nook unless you want poor service!

If you like crappy service from people who look like they would rather be doing anything else besides help people, then youll love this place. I had never been to Charlottesville before, and wanted some iced tea. So, when I asked the person manning the outside patio if I could get some tea to go, she told me I could go in to the bar and get some. This doesnt sound very bad, but the lack of smile and tone made my one and only interaction with this establishment brief and unpleasant. The tea was not bad.

Poor - Very slow and unapologetic service. Food was extremely adequate. Grilled cheese, tomato, and basil sandwich sounded like great idea, except it was made with kraft slices, not real cheese (seriously). All other food was fine, but the prices led me to believe it would be a little classier, and tastier. Oh well. at least when you sit outside you get to see when your waitress has left for her cigarette break, so you dont have to wonder where she is. this happened several times during our meal.

Our 4 person party walked in at 10:30am; we were NEVER greeted, we watched as 10 (yes, I counted) employees walked passed us numerous times, we waited 15 minutes to be told it was going to be a 20 minute wait. There were 2 empty, clean tables that we could see. The hostess, who had walked past and ignored us standing there was rude to us and clearly hates her job. Ive never been treated this poorly at a restaurant before. Avoid this place.

Overpriced, although our waitress tried, it took forever to get everyones drinks and food out correctly. The food wasnt worth the money or time. My sons hot dog came put cold twice. It took almost two whole hours from time of being seated to finally completing paying our checks. Our waitress was nice but thats the only positive this glass half full girl can come up with.

Not bad, not extraordinary. The food was pretty good and so was the service, but it wasnt too memorable. The dessert selection is awesome, though. Almost worth going just for that. Also its worth noting that their website is really out of date and when I tried to order something Id seen on the online menu, they said they hadnt served it in a few years.

I dont live in Cville but my best friend does. She took me here for lunch on day & I was so shocked. Im a very picky eater & I loved every bit of it. I cleaned my plate. =) We went back that weekend for breakfast. It was so amazing. I cant wait for my next trip up there to go again. This has become one of our must eat places when I visit. YUM!!!

Paid with a card and got charged 30 dollars for a mac and cheese. Who the hell pays that much for a mac and cheese? Apparently I tipped 300%. So I called to talk about how I need to go about getting refunded and they yelled at me as though I were crazy for even calling about an overcharge. Not worth going again just because of that service.

I cant believe the positive reviews, this place is awful. The food is the worst Ive had in years. I saw other people sending back food because it was terrible, regretted not having done that myself. The place looks nice, great outdoor seating, but thats it. Have a drink (not particularly cheap) but stay away from the food.

Great for breakfast, especially when the weather allows you to sit outside. Good pancakes, hash and eggs etc. Nothing fancy but solid diner classics. Service is usually good. Dinner and eating inside isnt as much of a draw. Id knock a star off my review if it werent for breakfast outside.
