My #1 place for delivery!!!! Sorry to hear that certain people were disappointed, but the reality of the fact is that this is good eating. The pricing is way fair and the amount is generous. I have had the majority of the menu. I can tell you the Lo Mein is off the hook and if you order their specialties then you cant go wrong. Like any other restaurant you will find what you love and what you dont. I have lived in Del Ray for over a year and no matter how many different restaurants I try, I always return to South China. Oh yeah, I have never had food poisoning in the two years I have ordered from them, and so far everyone has been extremely courteous and nice. Update 2017 I have now been eating here for 7 years! We moved away where they did not deliver and we had to start traveling to eat at the restaurant. We are now closer for delivery, and its still great. By the way if you are in the neighborhood, try to eat at the restaurant. When you get it fresh out of the kitchen is so much better! Love the Green Jade and Mooshoo Pork. The restaurant is family owned and weve been going there for so long they know us now. Totally recommend it!

Listen, Im not sure how this place makes its way to the top of the list for food delivery for anyone (unless you work there, own the place or are related to those that do). How does fried rice go so wrong?!? Well, leave it to this place. Not only did I show up on a Sunday, 5 minutes after the 10 they quoted me, but I was instructed to sit, "itd be a minute for my takeout". So I did.... I noticed there were two other parties seated at tables (leaving most of the establishment barren). After another 5 or so minutes, the gentlemen behind the counter finally asks me what I ordered, I tell him... then he pulls my order off the shelf where its been sitting this whole time. To be honest I was a bit flabbergasted... I paid, took my food home, hoping it would be passable for a meal. Nope.... Id suggest just gnawing on a table end or lighting on fire whatever cash you were gonna spend here. Please just go and find another place to order from, cause this place probably needs to shutter its doors and let someone else have a go of the space.

If you want great tasting food this is the place you want to be but if you want poor customer service this place is also the place for you. I heard about this restaurant from job and loved it. I recently moved and this is my go to place for great Chinese Food. The first four times I ordered both the delivery drivers were amazing!!!! The last two times it left me feeling as though I am bother. The driver refused to come upstairs and deliver the food each time I had to come done stairs. The second time which was last night my order was $23, I gave the driver $40, he gave me back $13. I am not a bad tipper but correct me if Im wrong as the customer is it not my choice to tip you how much I want to tip you. By the time I looked up to ask for the rest of my change the driver was through the door and in his car. I stood their stunned. I wont be ordering from the restaurant anymore as I cannot support poor customer service...Not sure if the owners from this restaurant see this but something needs to be said

Without really expecting it, this has become the "go to" place for my wife and I when we are too tired to cook and dont want to go out to eat. Its no frills but the price is right and its 2 blocks away. So the food is okay. Ive had better, Ive had much worse. The decor is decidedly strip mall. What really makes it for me are the people who work here. They are always very friendly and it just has a good vibe to it. The kids of the owners are often here doing homework, helping out, or getting underfoot and it just feels... homey. Weve been coming here 3-4 times a month for several months and I havent had a bad meal, or a bad experience yet. Ive come here alone to sit, have a hassle-free meal and read a magazine. Sometimes thats the best special on the menu.

I cant go to other Chinese restaurants anymore because this one set the bar so high. It sounds silly, but Ill drive 30 minutes (or more in traffic) to get this food over the plethora of Chinese restaurants around me. I love their beef w/ broccoli, General Tsos chicken, and chicken lo mein. The broccoli is always fresh and cooked well, the beef isnt grisly, and the chicken is fried crispy and isnt soggy. Ive also converted 3 friends and counting!

We tried over a dozen Chinese take out places since moving to Alexandria...South China is by far the best in town. They are quick and will make dishes to order...if you ask for spicy, you get spicy. Plus they always throw something in for free...soda, spring roll, etc. Nicest staff around...they know my name and always make me feel welcome when I come in to pick up dinner. If you havent tried them, you should.

Lousy Orange Chicken. The chicken (if you can call it that) was so grisly and tough, and mostly composed of starchy fluff. This is third Chinese delivery place that struck out since I moved to Alexandria, VA. There are a lot of good restaurants in area, but Northern Virginians do not know what good Chinese food tastes like. Heck, even panda express is better than the delivery places around here.

I love their dumplings and General Tsos Chicken. Much Better than PF Changs in my opinion. I have been eating here for over 10 years and will never go anywhere else for my chinese food. The staff is family oriented and very friendly. High marks for the value and can go wrong with their lunch menu and free drinks or spring rolls after spending a few bucks!

I wasnt expecting much when I ordered our food for delivery on Christmas day, but boy was I wrong! HANDS DOWN, the best Chinese food Ive had in the area. Everything was hot and delicious, the driver was on time and super polite, and our order didnt cost an arm and a leg. South China is now my go-to for Chinese food when Im in Alexandria.

Ordered here tonight. Delivery took over an hour for a small order. We received no apology when we called to check the status of the order. We only live 5 minutes away from the restaurant. In fact, its been 20 more minutes since we called and the food has yet to arrive. Were never ordering here again.

So i had egg foo young and it was awesome..!!! And the delivery was quick and the price is not bad great spring rolls and shrimp toast BANGIN....!!!!! :-D ... I reallg enjoyed my experience wit alexandria chineese food and im very picky on where i eat chineese food.... But this place have me sold...!!!

I chose this restaurant because they had crispy tofu with peanut sauce. The tofu came squishy (at best) with a sweet and sour sauce. The driver got lost and hung up on me when he called for directions, which were very clear on the online order and printed on the paper receipt. NEVER again.
