We started going to Los Tios back when it was tiny. The food was good enough to make me wait for a table back then, and I have not noticed any decline since their two expansions. It is a family place, the owner makes a point of interacting / playing with my kids when we come, as does the guitar player on Friday nights. We have at some point or other sampled most of what the menu has to offer, but my favorite is the fajitas -especially when they have a special like Mahi-Mahi! The wife does most of the drinking, and seems quite content with their margaritas and sangria. Are they expensive? -Sure, but if you want to get drunk on margaritas for cheap -go get a blender and a bottle of Two Fingers. Never seen anything troubling in the way of dirt or vermin -so that reviewer saw something I never saw, even on a "tour" of the kitchen given to me and my boy on a busy night. Overall if you want some good Tex-Mex / Salvadoran in a family atmosphere, this is your place. If you are single looking for the scene and cheap drinks, move along.

Friends of ours recommended this place, so we decided to try it out last night. While the food was good, it wasnt anything special for me. I felt the portions were very small for the price compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. Additionally, my husband got what was called a "giant mojito" on our receipt, but there was nothing "giant" about it. The glass was more than half full of ice and not much liquid. Weve gotten better, larger drinks in other local restaurants for half the price. Our server wasnt rude, but wasnt friendly either; the only words we heard from him were "What do you want to drink?" and "What do you want to eat?" and "Everything okay?" With many other great options in the area, we wont be returning to Los Tios as there was no "wow factor" for us.

My server pretty annoyed with my questions about what has gluten in it. I simply asked for my meal with corn tortillas and then asked if that would be gluten free. He repeated my order but never answered me. So I asked him again, thinking maybe he didnt hear my question. Again, random mumblings, no answer. One more time I asked, because Im used to having to repeat things to my father with hearing problems. This time I got an irritated side-eye and still no answer. He could not be bothered to give me a simple yes, no or I dont know. Life must be hard dealing with stupid questions about whether or not your food is going to kill someone.

Happening. Delicious. Amazing Sounds. Families. Friendly. Prompt. Polite. Such good things to be said here. We walked up and sat outside within a few minutes of waiting (packed friday night). We then proceeded to order amazing apps and dinner! Fajitas are worth every penny and the various meats they have is outstanding. The service is prompt and extremely friendly. I never needed a thing! Inside sounded like a fiesta! Mariachi band etc! We sat outside, but next time I want to go without the baby and party inside with my fellow brethren! Its very popular, so get there early if you want easy outdoor seating.

I recently had a good meal with friends at Los Tios, so last Friday, February 17, 2012, I suggested to my husband that we order a takeout meal there. A terrible disappointment! He had the Chicken Fajita, and I, the Vegetable. It was hard to locate any peppers in my vegetables; not a red pepper to be seen. What mine did have was lots of chewy broccoli stalks and huge pieces of carrots. The rice sides in both of our meals was made with frozen cut veggies (green beans too) such as the kind you would use to make soup. Very unappealing and tasteless. Sign me, Disappointed in Del Ray

Ill preface this by saying that Ive been spoiled by really good Mexican food where I used to live in IL. This is my first experience with a Mexican restaurant in VA and I was very disappointed. The service was good, but the food wasnt. The salsa was watery with too many onions, the queso dip and the rice probably came from boxes and were not very good at all. The beef enchiladas I got were ok, but had no real flavor or spice to the meat. I had to add the spicy sauce that they had on the side to them to get some flavor. That spicy green sauce was about the only good part of the meal.

Great food and great service. Only downside: I always want to eat outside because of the family restaurant atmosphere inside. We went in there once and it was so loud from the huge family parties and kids screaming at the top of their lungs that we just found a table out on the street. Fortunately it wasnt too hot, but the sun was setting and it became a matter of strategic placement to avoid having the sun in our eyes. But what if its too cold to sit outdoors? So thats the only drawback. Wonderful food and very nice, attentive servers. If only theyd muzzle the screaming kids.

My friend & I went to this restaurant for lunch today. There were two other ladies in the table next to us. Lunch was delivered & all four of us saw roaches on the wall & one was on the table. We immediately got up & left. I asked to speak to the manager before leaving & was told that he was too busy. Consequently, we left without paying & having the opportunity to tell the manager of the roach infestation. Upon returning to work, my friend got very sick & we called the Alexandria Health Department & reported the incident. We will never eat here again.

Los Tios is nothing special though it hit the spot. Food could have been better but weve learned to be pleased with average Mexican considering the alternatives. Enchiladas were small a manageable size; fajitas are a bit overcooked. Everything comes with heaping plates of Mexican rice and refried beans, as well as pico and guacamole. Margaritas are enormous and laced with sour mix; order them "skinny" if youd like to avoid the stuff. Service was friendly and accommodating. The space is huge — probably a decent place to consider for a large group.

Disappointed after reading all the reviews. Would not order from again. Would not bring friends from out of town to eat here. Would rather spend $1200 flying to SF for the weekend for Mission burritos. Ordered: Chicken Burrito - unpleasant taste, like "fake" Mexican, very small for the price - one of their burritos is like 1/3 the size of Chipotle and 1/4 the size of SF Mission burritos Beef Chimichanga - was not fried, odd smell/taste, very small for the price Corn stuff - deliciously sweet but not too sweet Taquitos - delicious!

From the moment we walked in, everyone made eye contact - they were extremely courteous and helpful. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The food was excellent. Our waiter, Antonio, was fantastic!!!! Plus, ALL the waiters took care of us - not just our own. They noticed our margaritas were getting low and were quick to ask us if we wanted refills. I am only sorry that I just found out about this place this weekend. Im sad that I wasted so much time eating at other mexican restaurants! Los Tios is the BEST!!!!!!!!!!
