This place needs a restaurant rescue. It was my girlfriend’s birthday and we hadn’t been downtown for dinner in sometime. So on a Saturday night at a quarter past 6 we walked into the Vermont Pub and Brewery. It was slamming busy. From the moment we entered there were people everywhere and servers were buzzing about. After checking in at the hostess stand and being told it would be about 20-20 minutes for a table we accepted the blue electronic table pager. We squeezed into a couple of stools in the bar area and studied the enormous menu. The pager went off after about 15 minutes and we were seated. But the seating was terribly cramped. The adjoining table was right on top of us. Every time someone got up they bumped into my girlfriend. Anyhow, we ordered 2 Cajun Calamari’s for an appetizer when our waiter took our drink orders. The calamari arrived and I guess I was thankful for the little oil fired lamp that provided barely any light to us. The calamari was a small, meager portion fried in oil that had seen better days. The squid was dark and oily. I’m going to say in addition to the contaminated fry oil that whoever cooked the squid did not let the oil get back up to the required 350 degrees cooking temperature. The glut of oil on the plates would have qualified for EPA superfund status. Now, on to the entrees. I had order the grilled salmon with a double side of Béarnaise, broccoli and garlic mashed potatoes. My dining companion had order the Greek prepared scrod with sweet potato fries. My salmon was actually pretty OK. It was grilled properly and flavorful. The sides were problematic. I was the served horseradish mashed not the garlic that was ordered and all the sides were ice cold. The dish served to my girlfriend had issues as well. About one third of the scrod portion was laid out side of the baking dish. It had become molded to the side of the dish during the baking and was completely dried out and inedible. The sweet potato fries were the only saving grace to the dinner. They and the honey mustard dressing were both very good. With tip we were out of there for $65.00. It was a disappointing meal and service. I would advise you to look elsewhere if you want more than burger and beer.

The food we ordered was less than impressive, but not bad taste-wise. Their nachos are pretty standard, but overpriced for the quality. The buns for their hot sandwiches came out soggy despite having little to no condiment on them (we had to ask for extra). The roll for the philly cheese steak was rock hard and had just about no cheese on it. The fries are great, though, and the seafood chowder wasnt bad. Some of the lemons used on the drinks were dried out and browning, which was also slightly revolting. There are two things that cant be overlooked and that is the consistently slow service and the stench inside the restaurant - like a bunch of dirty bar rags hung out to dry in your grandmothers musty attic. Although the prices for their food are reasonable and they have a decent menu, it definitely doesnt live up to the hype.

The beer is about the only thing going for this place. The food was overpriced for the portion size. The. BLT sandwich was awful for $7. I could make a better one at home since there was so little flavor to it. We also had the daily special of Chipotle chicken which lacked any discernable flavor. I ended up adding mustard to it just to get something out if it. Paying extra for chips or fries adds an extra $2 to your total and honestly there are much better places than here to go. The service was mediocre at best. We went there and there may have been 20 people total in the restaurant and still had to wait 20 mins for our food to arrive. The waitress was unapologetic and seemed as if everything was normal then went to chit chat with the hostess. TL;DR: There are FAR better options in Burlington!

The "Epicenter", "Flash point", "Big Bang" of the Vermont Craft Beer Movement. A MUST SEE when in town visiting. Across the street is an empty parking lot that is the birthplace of Ben & Jerrys Ice Cream. Whatever was in the water at this intersection in the 1970s, I wish I had a sip! Instead, sip the beer! The owner / original brew master is a legend -- and sadly passed away -- but, to pay your respects to him and his beer, come with a group and have a meal and try a flight, or more! Food quality is above-average American / bar food but with a substantial menu. Beer selection is local and brewed in-house. This is the beginning of the Vermont Craft Brew yellow brick road that should take you throughout the whole state! Highly recommended -- but very crowded during Summer months!

During my recent visit to Burlington VT we settled on this place for dinner. There are so many choices if you are visiting that I must caution you from the food. The beer and atmosphere was just fine. The food was not and for their prices I was deeply disappointed for my friend whom was picking up the tab on this one. She ordered a veggie wrap and I had a sandwich and we split a pasta special. The sandwich and wrap were soggy. The spinach and cheese ravioli special which I would have assumed came with a white sauce came with a red sauce. That would have been fine had it not tasted like it was just dumped from a can. We dined on a Monday night and it was not busy. I cannot imagine how bad the food is if the cooks and waitstaff get into the weeds

I went here for a simple Angus burger with cheddar cheese done medium rare with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger came out medium well looking like a hockey puck with the charcoal texture. The sweet potato fries were just above room temperature. The buns used with the burger look as if they just came off the McDonalds grill. The waitress avoided asking me how my food was as my plate had barely been touched. I will not come back here again I have no problem paying a good dollar for a burger but this was s***. The waitress had a sad excuse for a put on personality and was not genuine with her interactions. I then spoke with another young lady whom was not impressed with her birthday outing a few days prior.

After reading so many good reviews on this place I came away a bit disappointed. Its not that it was bad. But just not as good as the reviews made it out to be. We got the chips and salsa for a light appetizer. The salsa I am sure is one of the big name canned salsa and the chips were stale. The bangers and mash was good but the rueban was poorly built although decently tasting (either didnt drain the sauerkraut enough or needed more substantial bread). The beer is of course the main attraction. While good I didnt find I really loved the beers (tried 4 different ones). Overall I would probably try one of the other pubs in the area hoping for something better. Also it was extremely loud and crowded.
