We went to this diner for the first time with a gift card. The waitress took our order, and after 15 mins, came back to inform us that they were out of salad, and someone had run to the store. After another 20 or so minutes, the waitress finally came back to say she didnt know what was taking the salad so long. By then our drinks were empty. She asked us if she should put our order in without our salads. About 30 mins later, she came with our food and 1 salad. I informed her that 2 of us had asked for baked potatoes, she informed us that they were out of baked potatoes. At this time the manager or whoever he was, was standing there, and could tell Im pretty upset. We had been there a good hour by then, with nothing to eat. My husbands dinner should have come with a salad also, (by the end the salads started coming out) but he never got his. The manager did say he would talk to us after we had eaten. That never happened. The customer service at this establishment is absolutely horrible. I am a very good tipper, and I didnt leave a tip for the service we got. Also, the manager should have been walking around asking how the patrons were instead of running the cash register. While waiting an hour for our food, we should have been offered some rolls or something. This diner is very poorly run, and I will not be returning, nor will I give it a good rating to other people. Too many people just standing in the kitchen. With this kind of service, it will not be in business very long.

My daughter loves this place and I usually do too, however, we had the worst server weve had at any restaurant in the last few years during our meal today. Its a shame because we frequent this place. Upon arrival we were sat quickly but we ordered fast and I did tell the server I was starving. She said shed bring the salad out fast so I could feel better, salad never came. Our meals came out. Then she said she was sorry and brought the salad but when you have hot food you opt to eat the hot food because the salad wont become warm. However, the mashed potatoes were cold and I could tell our meals sat in the window for awhile. The only other time she checked on us was to bring the bill. My daughter had hot chocolate and wanted a water, I wouldve asked for one had anyone ever asked. I got my water in a Togo cup. Unfortunately, even though my daughter loves the black bears and usually its been fine, this meal just flat out sucked. We wont be back for awhile due to this. Shame.

I went with family to this black bear diner after going on a hike. Compared to the West Jordan Black Bear Diner, I give this one out of five stars. The service was absolutely horrible and the waitress didnt know what she was doing and had to get help from another waiter. The waiter was even worse, loud, and obnoxious and spoke to us in a really raised voice that made us all feel uncomfortable. Not only that, but he messed up on our ticket more than 5 times and we were being overcharged for food that we didnt order. Also, their food portions, specifically their pancakes, are extremely smaller than the West Jordan location. I still like Black Bear Diner, but the service I experienced at the Sandy location was definitely the worst Ive had in a long time. I dont recommend this diner and definitely wont be coming back. Thank you, Sandy Black Bear Diner, for allowing me to recognize how outstanding the West Jordan customer service is compared to yours.

This place was delicious. We actually pulled into the shopping center to go somewhere else, but decided to give the Diner a try. The bear decor EVERYWHERE made me feel back home with the country vibe. It really felt like something Id see in the back country. The menu was designed like an old newspaper, which I thought was hysterical and witty. Who doesnt love the quintessential look of reading the newspaper over breakfast? Our server was incredibly attentive, too. When we kept needing more time to decide on what we wanted to eat, she didnt seem flustered or agitated at all by needing to always come back. She was a great conversationalist, too, so we never felt like we were an inconvenience even though the place was a bit busy. The food was exceptional and really hit the spot. I ended up leaving a 100% tip. The cashier thought Id made an mistake and politely double checked. Ill definitely be back soon.

The Sandy location of Black Bear Diner is more than just a dining destination, it is a "virtual vacation" from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life. The food is very good with fresh ingredients and seasonal fruits - this is not your IHOP, no the cooks seem to have pride in the product they put out. The staff is consistently great. The interior design takes me back to my childhood of visiting rustic cabins for weekend journeys. The Staff - they are very attentive and treat you like family, starting with a warm greeting at the door. The feel-good treatment continues throughout the meal service. Black Bear Diner has become my breakfast mainstay. Lunch and dinner are equally good. The best server - Tavia followed closely behind by everyone else. Good job Black Bear Diner!

Where to start.....I love this place like I owned it. We eat here 2-3 times a month and have never EVER had a bad experience due to staff or service. Their food is beyond generously proportioned, delicious and will have you trying (desperately) to find a bad choice. I have worked myself through 90% of the menu and have no intention of stopping now! My 5yo son is treated like KING! We always have a definably exceptional dining experience. It is clean, fairly priced, fast, and they have some pride in what they do/serve/interact/create/and govern their establishment. If I could go back and NOT tell all my friends about it so I could have this gem all to myself, I would change that! 5*s all the way....if you have a bad experience at the BBD you did something wrong not them.

My wife and I were huge fans of Black Bear Diners location in Sandy. However things have really fallen off in terms of quality and service. The last three times we went the food has not been very good and in particular the last visit resulted in the wrong side being served and when it was replaced it was still the wrong side and on the third try to get the right side it never came after waiting over 40 minutes. I notified the manager, and his only explanation was "were really short staffed." I told the manager that he was going to be paying for my supper and weve not been back since. Theres way too many places to spend my hard-earned money than at a restaurant that cant keep service and quality where it should be.

We were in Bullhead City, AZ two weeks ago and the Black Bear Diner there was being remodeled. As sad as that was, that location was a bit "tired and needy" of a makeover. So we were jonesing for a Black Bear fix. Along comes a new location in the OC. So we tried the new Black Bear Diner in La Habra, CA. Amazing property. Detailed to the NINES. Attention to detail obvious. Staff all wear cute shirts blending the Black Bear Brand with Orange County California surfing and lifestyle. My bride had the California Omelette with their signature has browns; while I suffered (ha ha) through the Hobo Joe Omelette. Both dishes deserved food presentation awards. Recommend highly.
