First let me say, Ive been a loyal Sitar customer for 5 to 6 years, having birthday parties, and catering for my parties from Sitar. Let me start off with what is good. The service is great, the desserts are pretty good. However whats bad is the food. Went to the Sunday buffet, and there was little to no flavor and or spices in anything. It was so bland. I thought it was me at first, so I asked others in my party how the food was and they all said the same thing. They even have sweet Texas bbq chicken on the buffet (what thats doing at a indian restaurant?). However if you want flavorful indian food go to the Taj (near richey and 45), or The Curry House (59 and 1960). Note: The curry house food is a bit spicy but good. There is another few indian places in the woodlands also, but I havent tried it to say if its any good. Also as a side note, Sitar charges 4.99 for my 3 year old who barely ate anything (the other two restaurants I listed dont since my last visit). However Im not rating it based on the price, just the food. It was pretty bad for an indian restaurant, especially a place I used to go too. This review maybe only helpful for people who like indian food with the flavors and spices. Also this review is based on the Sunday buffet.

My friends and I had enjoyed Sitar in prior years, but our last meal there this past weekend was absolutely horrendous. They seemed to moved away from authentic Indian cuisine. The naan was not naan, but rather a cold pocket bread. When I asked for fresh naan from the tandoor, I got what looked like flour tortillas which had been cooked in a tandoor. The look, consistency, taste were not correct. The fish tikka squares were cold and tough to chew. The tandoori chicken were cold and bland. The daal was overwhelmingly spicy hot which obscured any other flavor that might have been there. There were two jalapeno stews which tasted Tex Mex. The dessert was hard cold flan cubes. I wonder if the owners replaced the chefs with Tex Mex chefs? The food was not acceptable as Indian. I travel to India often for work and so I am familiar with Indian cuisine. Sitar offers a horrid fabrication of such. If you like Tex Mex, cold, and bland than OK. But steer clear if you want Indian food. Bombay Sizzler will reopen as Bombay Mahal nearby. I will go there instead and try that.

This place is really the only option if you live on the north side and want decent indian food without having to drive in to Houston, or down FM 1960. Personally, I think the food is pretty good, but Ive had much better (but you have to drive in to Houston). The waiters are all mexicans...which is weird to say the least. Buffet is always fresh unless you come after 2:00, after that it depends on how busy they are as to how fresh it will be. Naan is always served hot and never greasy. They have an OK variety, but you wont find anything that is both spicy AND sweet at the same time (Lamb Korma Marsala? Nope :( ) the Butter Chicken is really good as is the vegetable curry. They do not rotate their lunch buffet selection very often, so if you go there a lot you quickly run out of variety unless you order off the menu. Lunch buffet with a soda is about $13.00. That being said, I still eat there at least 3-5 times a month for lunch. Never been during dinner.

My husband and I have been frequent diners at The Sitar and have always enjoyed the food. Weve found the servers to be friendly and attentive. All that changed last night as I bit down on a 1 inch dirty, black nail in my naan bread. I informed the server immediately. He removed my plate and the nail. When no one came to the table, I thought maybe the information wasnt relayed to management. So on the way to the restroom I approached the manager at the cash register to ask him if he had been advised about the nail in my food. His response was Yes, sorry about that. At the very least, I would have thought a trip to our table to offer a sincere apology, perhaps a round of drinks, or maybe even comp one meal.... an effort to acknowledge there was a one inch nail in my food. But nothing other than a simple sorry about that ONLY after I sought him out. Yeah, wont be back!!!

This is about the 10th time that we had lunch at Sitar. The first eight times were some what good, about 3 weeks prior to this visit we receive poor service, we asked for some more bread to finish our meal, after 10 minutes of waiting we receive our bread. Too little to late, we dont need it now, we already finish eating. This time was the worst, bones in the cut up chicken, bones in the Lamb, cold fish pieces, cold french fries and chicken tenders. My wife became very ill and vomited the food, i was expecting a pleasurable meal for my money. Sorry, this will be my last time to eat at Sitar, Its not the money, its being able to enjoy your meal, or at least give people a hot lunch, not cold food.

This used to be my favorite Indian place to eat. I moved out of the area so it has been a while since I have been back in. They did not have the beans (my favorite), so I do not know if those are the same or not. The Good - Great butter chicken and sauces. The Bad - Naan was not thin and crispy - it is thick like a fat tortilla. Some of the dishes were so spicy that I had trouble eating them (and I like spicy food!!). Lentils - terrible flavor. Now have plastic bottled drinks instead of fountain drinks. Due to this, they rarely come to service your table....so do not expect much wait staff assistance unless you flag someone down.

Hi Just visited the place. I dont know how they received 4 stars. I called them to ask if they serve ala-carte in the lunch hour? They said yes. We went and asked for ala-carte and they said oh we serve only between 12 to 3. Not after that. I was so upset as I did not want to eat buffet. We were very hungry and my son was very cranky. Hence we decieded to eat. But it was a wrong decision. Service was extremely slow. Food was very spicy. They said they will charge for 2 years and up kid. My son eats regular spicy god. He could not eat anything. It was spicy for us as well. Too much oil too. I hate this place.

Excellent! Great service, clean, elegant atmosphere, and (most importantly) outstanding food. I dont have a very culturally diverse pallete and, in fact, I dont like food of many other ethnicities. I hadnt tried Indian food in a few years and some colleagues decided on Sitar, so the decision was made for me. I loved it! They had a buffet set up any everything was fresh (no weird skins on food that had been sitting for 4 hours), they had a great variety of vegetarian and meat options, mango ice cream was included with the meal, and the naan was perfect. I recommend it.

Absolutely love this place! I come for dinner about once a month, have brought friends and they liked it too! The service is friendly and prompt, helpful for people who have no clue about Indian food, like me the first visit. We tried a few different dishes from the menu. Theres always a buffet thats popular, but I havent tried it. My favorite thing to order is the Lamb Pesinde. Delicious, spicy, slight peanut taste with tender lamb. The garlic Naan or traditional Naan are perfect.
