I visited La Taza today. DISPLEASED and will NEVER return! I had been there once before (yesterday) and had ordered the same drink--iced vanilla chai latte. The sweet girl that made my drink yesterday did a fantastic job. However, the young man working today was not up to par. I ordered the same drink, paid, and headed out there door. I took a couple of sips, and I was displeased with my over-priced $4 drink. It tasted like milk with a splash of chai. If I wanted a glass of milk, I can pour that at home. Anyway, I go back inside and very politely apologize for being a complainer, but that my drink tasted like plain milk and wasnt strong enough. He questioned me, like I didnt know what I was talking about. Then proceeds to ring up the next customer, then goes to the back (where I cannot see him) and takes about two minutes back there doing something with water. He comes back with my drink in a regular coffee cup with a lid (hot coffee cup, not the see thru clear kind). Hum...thats not good. I politely tell him my drink was iced, not hot. He says it is iced. I go out the front door and find the nearest trash can and toss the drink. Why? Because he was in the back, making my drink (the first drink he made was NOT made in the back, it was made where I could see him). Im not trying to falsely accuse the gentleman of doing something gross with my drink, but I find it odd that he went to the back to re-make it AND changed the cup to a regular coffee cup. I will not recommend this place ever to anyone. What a waste of my money. They have a lot to learn from the original place for coffee--Seattle!

This cozy, quiet atmosphere is a must be for the generally over-saturated in need of a friendly spot to decompress. Stacks of "take-one-leave-one" books greet you at the door and original art dresses the walls. If you love coffee, quiet, and working in public, or meeting in a place where you can actually hear your friends story in a comfortable setting, youll want to snag the sofa or one of the other soft chairs sitting in a conversation area at the front of the store. Sometimes youll encounter, the click-clack of Mahjong, sometimes the unobtrusive tapping of laptop keys or lips moving on a muted television in one corner, but always the intoxicating smell of freshly brewed coffee and the friendly smiles of Steven and or Judy. Theyre especially friendly to the local writerly community, hosting regular writers groups and occasional readings. And if you come this Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at 1PM, youll hear me read from my newest novel, Making Room for George. Hope to see you there!

One of their baristas provided TERRIBLE service. I literally waited more than 20 minutes for my chai although there was literally no line and nobody else whose drinks the barista was working on. Then a guy whom the barista knew walked in after me and the barista finished his drink! It was only after two customers after me whose orders he was preoccupied with that I had asked about the chai that the barista appeared to have STARTED making it. Like seriously? And how long does it take to make an iced chai? And then he asked me whether it was supposed to be a hot or iced chai. Train your servers to treat EVERY CUSTOMER respectfully because now, despite the good chai, I am never coming back here again. Atmosphere is all right I guess. Quiet. Its cool that they have puzzles and a piano and a chess table but man, the service sucked.

The atmosphere is great and they always have little events going on like poetry readings. Its a really comfortable place with friendly staff. Great place to study, relax or have a chat with friends. The only reason Im giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because of their coffee. They have some good smoothies, but Im not blown away by their coffee like I am other places. Maybe it has to do with the quality and quantity. At other shops I feel I get more for my moneys worth. But overall, it is a great place! Id recommend everyone go there whenever theyre looking for a good place to unwind and have a drink.

Visited here on the 3rd day of them being open and it was a very pleasant experience. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly! They offer fresh juices, topo chicos, reasonable prices and have some of the best coffee roast selections already. They even offered samples of a delicious cake. The environment is cozy and different from the rest of San Antonio with more of an Austin/San Marcos vibe to it. Of course, wifi is a major plus and their outdoor patio is sonewhat distant from all the busy city noise of the interstate :) Will be returning often!

Love this place, I wouldnt call it run-down. It feels like a place that developed its aesthetic over time almost by accident, versus some more well-known coffee shops in San Antonio that have meticulously constructed atmospheres. The location isnt the best, but this place feels less sterile than some other coffee shops. I can sit in a well-worn armchair and admire the year-round Christmas tree or play a game of chess. Its the perfect example of cool without trying to be. Their coffee is also good black, which is always a plus.

Great neighborhood coffee house.... I should sell my house and move next door... Seriously, a great relaxed space with good coffee and real (not corporate) hospitality and service. People you meet here are well read, genuine, have broad interests and still practice the art of conversation..... Definitely a dont miss if you like a good environment for reading, games, coffee and conversation.

First time coming here. My wife asked if they sold Macchiatos, she said "no". Very rude and then proceeded to explain that it is "the EXACT same thing as a Carmel latte" My wife asked if she could get it without the Carmel. She looked at her like she was asking for something crazy "so, you just want a vanilla latte? Oookay." Not happy with the service, VANILLA latte was good.

Its the destination of choice for my wife and I when we want to unwind and chat about the world and other things. None of the commercial hype of a certain other coffee chain. Friendly staff there; eager to please. Even some comfortable easy chairs. Games and jigsaw puzzles to help pass the time. You will like it there.

Horrible coffee... comes out of a super-automatic that has probably never been tuned or cleaned since it was installed. Their idea of steamed milk looks something like dish soap suds. It was impossible to discern whether they didnt know how bad they were or if they just didnt really care.

Cant say enough about this family run community gathering place. Great coffee, interesting people and fun conversations. I go back again and again and their is always something new going on. Great place to study, meet people, work on the Internet, or play a pickup game of chess.
