Give us this day our daily bread. Or better yet, give us a sandwich with fresh baked bread. Thats what you get when you go to the Broadway Bakery for lunch. We were looking for a light lunch and knew that they served sandwiches here. The selection is limited, but the BDB Club with turkey, ham, bacon, cheddar, swiss, green leaf lettuce, tomatoes, and mayo was a good, two handed, cold cut sandwich. Grab a bag of chips and a drink and watch while your sandwich is made right in front of you. Really no spectacular food to ramble on about here, just a basic sandwich menu and less than five bistro tables to accommodate dine-in patrons. The novelty here is enjoying a simple meal while your olfactory senses go into overdrive as your are enveloped by the yeasty, warm, baking dough smell of bread and pastries in the ovens. That heady smell always makes me hungry. Plenty of pastries and cookies to choose from for dessert so you might as well give in and select several. The lemon ricotta cookies we chose were soft and crumbley and as ethereal as biting into a lemon cloud. We bought a half dozen to go. We missed getting to take home some of the sold out cheese and sausage kolaches, a particular favorite of mine (even better with jalapeno in the dough). Pick one, eat one and take the rest for later. Youll thank yourself for doing just that with a pastry for tomorrows breakfast or a cookie for a snack later.

Broadway Daily Bread is one of my greatest finds in San Antonio. Natural, fresh-baked pastries with no preservatives and amazing tastes. Ive tried a number of desserts from this place (although they have bread and muffins), and they are all delicious. The pecan pie bars taste just like, you guessed it, pecan pie. Delicious pecan pie. Mmmm. The brownie is perhaps the greatest brownie I have tasted (and Ive tried a lot of sub-par brownies). Exaggeration? Nay. This brownie is heavy, dense, and so fresh. It has chocolate chips, but the flour is so fresh and flavorful. It melts in your mouth. The peanut butter cupcake is interesting. Its made with Reeses Peanut Butter cups and the cake is somewhat hard (but not in a bad way). The huge mound of icing is peanut butter frosting. Yes... Anyways, the red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing is also heavenly, and definitely none of that stuff you buy at a grocery store. However, perhaps the greatest thing Ive tried there is the chocolate cupcake. Not only is the cake so moist and flavorful, but the icing on top is massive. Its incredibly dense and heavy, and some of the best chocolate flavor Ive tasted. This is the best cupcake Ive ever had, and I havent even tried the butter cream frosted one yet! In short, Broadway Daily Bread is a very cool place to get freshly baked products. Its currently the only bakery I care to go to.

The food itself is delicious. But this business is extremely un-organized and inconsistent with their business hours and products. They never have anything ready to sell by the time they open, and they are always in "the process of making it" or "we dont have that right now." And it is not just one specific muffin or anything every time I have a second or third choice they never have it available or ready to sell. Im tired of always going into their business and they never have the their goods ready to sell. Its rare when they do. Even an hour after opening time they are never ready. Check customer demand and go based off that! Also, even their business hours are not accurate. Sometimes they are open, sometimes they are not. Dont trust the business hours so much.

Great food however staff has become much less friendly and obliging. Several months ago I had a great experience but upon this visit I am left extremely dissatisfied. There isnt much of a kid friendly menu and staff had gone out of there way to make a peanut butter sandwich for us. It was great but after asking for that again this visit I was given a gruff refusal and left wanting. It may have been unfair to hope for the danger kindness we received last time but it was that very kindness we had received that brought us in this time. We wont be making a return trip or this mistake again.

This is one of those places that is really good, but for some reason too much time passes between visits. Super friendly service, excellent baked goods, very stuffed, fresh sandwiches. Do yourself self a favor and visit one of the locations. You wont be disappointed.

GREAT place to eat! I use to live right behind the bakery and went there all the time. I have tried just about everything they make and never been disappointed. One of my favorites is the pumpkin muffin. Go by and try something I bet you will like it.

Great sandwiches with fresh ingredients. Ive never had a bad meal there. The spinach salad is also very good with plenty of bacon. The best part though is their oatmeal chocolate chip cookies! The best cookie, hands down.

The sandwiches are excellent but the baked goods really set this bakery apart. The birdseed loaf, their signature product, is simply amazing and the cookies, scones, and pecan bars are superior to anything else in town.
