I very rarely dine at Golden Corral, although Ive been to several throughout this great nation. They tend to be consistent in quality throughout the chain. The best indicator of what type of experience you can expect is usually signified by the scent that greets you as walk through the door. On the day that I visited Golden Corrals Plano - North Central Expressway location, I had intended to dine at a Cracker Barrel restaurant instead, but a navigation error (my bad) led us here. First of all, this is one of the chains more recent additions. I believe this location had relocated from a older building a mile or so south. This newer building is nothing special, but it is everything you should expect from a restaurant: brightly lit, clean, spacious and inviting. We arrived for a late lunch, so the dining area was not at all crowded. There looked to be plenty of seating for hungry diners during busier periods. Regardless, the buffets were well stocked and offered plenty of variety. Nothing appeared to be old or stale and most items looked appealing, save for the 2 lonely slices of pizza, no doubt wondering what life choices had led them to be forsaken beneath the heat lamp of a suburban buffet restaurant for the eternity they would spend waiting to either be devoured or tossed into a dumpster. But enough about the pizza. The veggies looked and tasted fresh enough, all hot items were warm but not scalding, the iced tea tasted like actual tea and their dinner rolls were quite yeasty (if youre a fan of that sort of thing). Highlights were: The Mexican brisket, the fried fish (basically catfish fry, but with a mystery fish substitute), the cornbread (it was nearly on par with Boston Markets golden goodness) and the mini cheesecake slices. The taco meat, barbecue chicken, fudge, brownie, bread pudding and the music were all letdowns. Nearly all items were labeled and the only noticeable error being mini corndogs labeled mini hotdogs. Our server was a polite gentleman named Jorge (he helpfully wrote it on a Camp Corral business card left stealthily on the edge of our table). He was attentive without being intrusive. The rest of the staff quietly attended to their duties as we dined in peace. Whatever missteps precipitated the numerous 1-star reviews were absent on our visit and I would invite those diners to give this restaurant another chance, albeit with more realistic expectations. It is just a cheapo buffet after all.

Terrible service. Was going to review on Yelp, but this place must be new; its not even listed on Yelp. First time here and last. As I was paying, I asked the young lady if they offered a military discount. She replied, "Nuh uh." Very rude. Went thru the line and they were out, or nearly out of everything. There was a man at the steak station helping another customer, so I waited my turn. When he finished the other guy, he just walked off. Didnt address me or anything. I was just standing there like, wtf happened? I finally flagged someone else down to ask for a bit of medium rare steak. But all she could find was well done. Yuck. Finally another cook showed up and was able to give me what looked like medium well. I took it, but couldnt really eat it. The only person that remotely was helpful was Jorge the waiter. He was awesome. Kept checking on us to see if we needed anything. All in all...stay away.

This G.C. is only 4 months old and the buffet is already lousy. Ive actually given them a chance, going 3 different times. First time when opened there was no issue. Second time, minimal fresh food on the line and several empty items. Third and now last time, same issue with food. I understand a empty dish but when it takes 5 minutes to replace at a buffet, to me thats not good. Then when other dishes have about 2 dried out servings left and not replaced with fresh food, that also is not good. I rarely get my moneys worth at any buffet, I go to get exactly what i want and expect it to be fresh and ready. There is another chain about a mile away that I have yet to have a problem. Sorry G.C., your brand was good many years ago but you consistently failed me at the various locations Ive gone to.

My husband and I eat here all the time loved it. Went there tonight at 9:08 pm . Waited until 9 30 for someone to come up to take our money . The lady with blue eyeshadow said oh itso 9 30 . Do you still want to eat here cause the food that is out is all you get cause qe close at 10 ..... They close @ 10 pm . The guy would not cook my steak more cause he shut the grill off . At 9 45 they started pulling food so we couldnt even get more food then the girl at front made it very clear we hat to be out by at 10 pm... highly disappointed cause I loved this place.... unless I get an apology and compensated I will not go back . They acted like we needed not to be there . 37 dollars later ugh

This was quite possibly the worst experience I have ever had at Golden Corral. The stansards have been declining for years, so, against my better judgement, we decided to try this relatively new location here on Plano. What a disappointment. The shrimp extravaganza was a joke. The dessert bar was bare, there were flies inside the restaurant. I wanted to ask for my money back, but did not have time for the additional inconvenience. And for $45.00 for two adult buffets and one childs buffet, I am completely devastated. This used to be my favorite restaurant chain, but, after this evening, I will never eat at another Golden Corral.

Best buffet in the USA! Salad bar. Soup bar. Main bar. Dessert bar. My folks and I have been to this location at least 10 times. The best kept secret is the senior special for $6.99 (includes drink) from 11-4pm on Mon-Tues Only. Super Value! Of our several visits, only ONCE did I have an issue with some buffet items quality. My reason for 4 stars is because on several occasions the silverware couldve been cleaner. Dont forget to take care of the hardworking servers who pick up and clean after you!
