I had an ok experience at Petra. The restaurant has sit-down style food, but with a fast-casual modern ordering and dining experience. Chips and Salsa were brought to the table, but you order at a front counter. The logistics of weather you tip, or how to go about further service other than flagging down an attendant was not obvious. I found some of the prices to be a little steep, but this was made up for in the quantity of food. Quality of the food was ok, I found the al pastor tacos, caramelized onions, and lemonades all to be too sweet. Overall an OK experience and will return to try some other entrees, but I dont think I can give it the best of reviews until the quality matches the price.

Used to be my hands down favorite restaurant, not a fan since the revamp. The quality of the food and service went down and the prices went up. The tortilla soup used to be so thick and delicious, it now cost extra & taste generic & watered down. The shrimp tacos used to be stuffed with shrimp, now they are mostly filler with a couple pieces of shrimp. Love the new logo and interior design of the restaurant, just wished they didnt change the food. I wouldnt mind if the prices had gone up if the quality was still there. Have tried it two times since the revamp, both have been disappointing, I dont think I will be going back.

Petra offers fairly sized portions at decent prices. Though I wasnt terribly impressed on my last visit, it may have been my own fault for not requesting things to be spiced up. If you are a fan of fire--metaphorical, of course--then youre going to request extra even when a dish is denoted as being spicy. I hadnt been in years but recalled it being sensational and unique. The service was superb as it has always been to my recollection but my Diablo Shrimp and its accompanying tortilla soup were both lacking a bit in the flavor department before and even after adding hot sauce.

I come here every chance I get but due to the drive its less often than I like. They have a nice flavorful offering of Mexican dishes. What disappointments me though is their tortilla soup. 1. It used to be one of the sides you could choose but now you have to pay extra. 2. They changed the recipe up and my friends and I all agree its just not close to how awesome it was before. Please if you read this, at least go back to the original recipe from 2 years ago. Then Id change my rating to a 5 star.

Tried it once - it was lousy. As I always do, I give places a second try. The turnover is huge. Clearly there is a management problem. You would have to be crazy to eat in this place. Added: This scoring thing is a scam too - 40 Stars total, 10 Reviews, that is an average of 4 NOT 4.3! BTW folks, working nearby, the name Petra Fresh Mexican Bistro is deceiving - the HUGE restaurant supplier, Sysco, is their supplier... LOL, They do not specialize in ANYTHING "Fresh"...

Basically discovered this place by accident. Its out of the way and just off El Dorado. It is a fresh take on Mexican food, with lots of fresh ingredients and flavor. They of course offer tortilla chips while you wait, but the salsas are unique and home made. The shrimp tacos are awesome and the "Mexican Slaw" is unconventional in a good way. Its not your average stop for Tex Mex and thats a good thing in this case.

I LOVE Petra!! I normally have the chicken tacos which are marinated in something AMAZING, but I tried the pork (with pineapples YUMMM) tacos yesterday. They were covered in some kind of red sauce. It was super messy but so worth it!! Their cilantro lime rice is the BEST EVER!!! The green salsa and chips are so good. LOVE this place and highly recommend if youve never been!

My family and I have eaten at Petra a few times. The food is always great, always a good selection and daily specials. The staff have always been helpful and nice. The place always looks to be clean and comfortable. We love Mexican food and rarely do we find a difference between between one or the other. Petra is very different. Great food.

Petra is hands down the best place in town. The food is consistently Uh-Mazing every time we come here but its the service that keeps us coming back. Keith and his staff are top notch! They are so down to earth and treat you like family. We always recommend Petra to our friends who are looking to try something new.

Petra is by far my favorite Mexican food in McKinney. Ive tried many different dishes and each one was delicious. The service here is impeccable and our food is always out quickly. The employees here are friendly and helpful. I would recommend Petra to anyone looking for tasty Mexican food and a great experience!

Worst change ever, their food is absurdly overpriced, $4.50 for chips? $11.00 for soup? We used to go often, never again, is not even a sit down with service restaurant, plus it seems like their server turnover is bad. As a former server myself I give this place a big thumbs down!!!

Havent been able to find fresh tacos like this since I moved from southern California! Easy menu and something for everyone. I just wish there was one in Allen so I could go more often. Oh... Did I mention FRESH????? Try it you will ❤it.
