Bottom line: The good selection of beers doesnt outweigh the poor seating and the terrible, terrible staff. The good: They have a wide (and good) selection of beers, the atmosphere is low-key (if you enjoy that), the back patio is enjoyable when the weather is nice, and the speed of service is usually relatively quick depending on how determined you are to get a drink. The bad: The space is small and the layout is poorly designed so youll have difficulty moving around (e.g. get drinks, go to the bathroom, etc.) will probably be cramped whether you try to sit or stand (especially if its busy). The weather is rarely nice. So, while the back patio area has slightly more space than the interior, you are subjected to the severe Houston weather: Heat, humidity, rain, etc. Worst of all, the staff is downright rude. From the bouncers to the bartenders to the manager the entire staff is impolite at best (even if you catch one on a good night) and offensive and obnoxious at worst. While, I personally may have been willing to put up with the irrational and infuriating layout and general lack of space, I drew the line with the obnoxious attitude of the staff.

Ive been here several times already and being a beer drinker, I really love the WIDE selection of beer on draught as well as in bottles. They have a really nice patio out back as well as some outdoor seating out front. Besides the variety of beer to choose from, they have some delicious snacks as well as regular food to match the drinks. That jumbo soft pretzel is awesome! So if youre a big fan of beer, I definitely recommend this place. If youre not so much of a beer drinker, you can try the ciders and the other light fruity beers like the Lindemans Lambic. The only thing I wish they had were better drink specials during happy hour. I believe its just like $1 off or something like that.

The Ginger Man knows that the key to success is to do one thing and do it well. The thing they do well is beer. The menu features a huge selection of beer from around the world and many local craft beers. I was a little disappointed with the huge selection of IPA which I am not a fan of, but found several good maltier beers available. The service was a little pretentious and seemed a bit over worked with the crowd, but did know the menu very well. The Oktoberfest selection was nice and vast which was great. Its great when a bar has a good variety of seasonals. The food menu was fairly small but looked decent. Please dont come here and order a Blue Moon. It embarrasses us all.

Im from Charlotte, so Im admittedly spoiled by a uniquely strong craft beer scene. This bar feels original and has character in an area that looks like it usually tears these kind of spots down. The bartender was great and she did know her beer. But the beer list itself was uncurated and uninspiring. It was no better or worse than what you can get at a chain restaurant (and probably worse than a sports bar chain). The seating areas were fine, but nothing notable. It is an all around unmemorable spot, despite being branded as a true beer lovers bar.

The one shining beam of light that pierces through the pastel shorts and croakies that is Rice Village. The beer selection is great and the patio out back really "ties the room together". The bartenders are very knowledgeable and have grown a thick skin to deal with the surrounding clientele. The Ginger Man has been around for 20+ years and I dont see it going anywhere any time soon (Fun Fact: The Ginger Man was Saint Arnold Brewings first client!).

Incredible selection of beer on-tap and also in bottles. Possibly one of the largest selections of any place Ive been to. Friendly, casual environment. If you dont like college crowds, avoid busy nights. If you ever want to eMail the manager to ask a question -- dont bother, youll get no reply. Otherwise, excellent place to have a few pints. The food is make-ready, but still decent for a place without a full kitchen.

Love this place. They have an amazing selection of beers. They have a really nice back patio and the staff on the patio are always great. The inside has great character, but can be a bit claustrophobic, dark, and noisy. Ive found that the bar staff is sometimes less helpful/friendly than the wait staff, so grab a table on the patio and relax! They have decent sandwiches and a couple other bar snacks to.

Great beer, complete idiot taking IDs. Im 24 went several times in the week prior to being turned down. He was even the one who took it several times. Just moved back from Oregon and even though my I had my expired Texas license, debit card, and credit card all with the same name it didnt matter. Never coming back regardless if hes working or not. Writing this as Im drinking next door at Gorgeous Gael.

This is a small pub in the middle of Rice Village. It has a nice outdoor patio. a cozy place to meet up with friends for drinks after work. They serve some appetizers but nothing enough to fill you up. In other words do not count on this place for dinner. They have a large beer selection, and a very limited wine selection. Parking depends on day and time. Oh well, it is the rice village after all.

Good collection of beer. In winter, people flock near the gas burners outside in the smoking zone. Would be great if they had more burnres. Got sledged by my server ( called me dip****) when i closed my tab at the counter instead of letting him get the cheque to my table. It was a Friday and he was taking too long. I would ignore it for the beer collection.

I go to the bar all the time. The beer selection cant be beat in rice village. The staff is very knowledgeable, can always give you a good recommendation. good bar food.Parking can be difficult at times Park across the street in the garage for 5 bucks, or go down to shakespere street. if you are a beer lover and looking for a quick quiet pint stop on by.

This bar is great to grab some good beer in the village. They have a great selection of beers. The back patio is my favorite place as it tends to be a bit quieter than inside and you are able to talk. You can also bring food from the Mediterranean place next door. What I like to do buy a cigar get some beer and good food and sit and talk with my friends.

This has a very small pub like feel in the middle of Rice Village. Not a sports bar, but a place to meet up with a couple of friends for drinks after work. There is a patio out back, but it has been packed every time I have been here. They have a large beer selection, which is always good. Parking is horrible, but that is because it is Rice Village.

My favorite Pub in Houston. Been around since 1988. I have been coming since 1989. Bartenders have changed over the years but the bar stays the same. See the same people every few years. Great selection of beer. Dont expect food. It is not a restaurant. Come here to enjoy good beer ...the food is snacks to keep the beer flowing.
